                                              OUTFIT

It wasn’t that Lenina West didn’t enjoy spending time with her family. In fact, her family was the most important part of her life, but lately, her parents had been putting all of their attention towards the child they were expecting over the summer. Lenina had been as excited as her parents when they first announced the pregnancy, but as time went on she realized they had no time for their older children. Even to the point where her father allowed her older brother, Conrad, to run the welcoming part this summer. Conrad had always been on the committee that helped, but their father was the one running everything. The welcoming party always happened the Saturday before camp started. This year Conrad had invited families that hardly shown their faces in the camp since they had been there. The Wests had decided to house the Pascal family, their long time friends. It would be the first time Lenina stayed at her parent’s house since the end of winter camp. Instead, she took over a room inside of her brother’s house. He hadn’t complained much when she walked the three blocks, between her parent’s and brother’s house, with her suit case. She stayed out of her brother’s way, and when he had a longer night at work, she cooked dinner and made sure there was enough for her brother when he came home. They had always gotten along well growing up. Even through their middle school years, they didn’t understand how siblings couldn’t get along.

Lenina’s extra time spent in Conrad’s house meant, she knew his master plan for the welcoming party. At least, she could assume what he was going to do. It was the day before the party, and Conrad was in camp using all of his time and effort to create a wonderful, extravagant party. Lenina was sitting in the basement, where her parents and she had been sleeping. Her mother gave up their master bedroom up to Tristan and Spencer, her godparents, and Lenina gave up her room to the twins, Adele and Riana. Her brother’s old room had been turned into a nursery and the guest room was given to Aiden, the youngest Pascal. Lenina had been awake for the past hour; she stared at the ceiling as she heard her mother and father turned in the futon. She didn’t want to get up from where she was lying on the ground. Hearing the front door open and close, Lenina slowly got off the floor and tip toed up the stairs to find her brother standing in the living room. “Conrad, what are you doing here? I thought you were going to be in camp working all day?” Her brother didn’t seem too interested in explaining himself.

Is mom in her room?” Conrad asked as he started towards the stairs to the second floor. He hadn't been around when the Pascals arrived, so he didn't know that Tristan and Spencer were staying in their parents room.

She's in the basement, Tristan and Spencer are up there.” Lenina explained as her brother passed her and walked downstairs. Lenina followed him down and watched him kneel next to their mother. She couldn't make out what he was saying but both of their parents were now awake. Colter pulled himself out of the bed before helping Remi up. Their mother waddled to the stairs as Colter walked up the stairs with her. “So, what are you doing here?” Lenina wasn't used to her brother keeping things from her. He jogged up the stairs and Lenina was shortly behind him. “It's not a big deal, I just need something from mom.” He stated when they were back on the first floor. He seemed to be nervous about standing in the house, “Adele's here. She's staying in my room with Riana.” Her brother simply nodded his head and turned his attention to the ground. Feet padded down from the second floor stairs. Conrad held his breath but allowed himself to breathe when Aiden showed his face. He reached out and hugged his got brother. “Good morning Conrad, how are you doing?” The two males chatted until Remi made her way back to them and handed her son a small box. She smiled before offering up, “Aiden, would you like to go help Conrad? I'm sure he could use some help preparing the welcoming party. I'll tell your parents when they wake up.” Aiden turned towards the older male and nodded his head. Within a minute both Conrad and Aiden left the house.

Your father and I are going to get ready for the day. We're planning on taking the Pascals on a tour of New Athens today.” Remi offered ideas to her daughter. Lenina nodded before walking to the kitchen and placed a pan on the stovetop. Finding a chunk of bacon, she sliced it into thin strips and placed them on the heated pan. Pulling out fresh fruit, she chopped them into pieces and placed them in a bowl together. Once the bacon was done, Lenina whisked eggs together and poured them into the pan with proper seasonings. Breakfast was easy to make, especially since Conrad took Aiden with him. Setting the food on the table, Lenina placed plates on the table as Tristan and Spencer walked in with her parents. The son of Apollo placed his hand on Lenina’s head and ruffled her hair, “Oh Lenina, breakfast, how nice, I haven’t had a homemade meal since the last time we visited Dad.” He said as he glanced to his wife. A chuckle escaped from her as she sat down at the table.

The Wests joined the table and began to serve themselves. “I woke the twins before coming downstairs.” Tristan explained. Lenina could hear footsteps on the floor above her. She wasn’t sure how long it would take the two of them to come downstairs. She was best friends with Adele, even before they had been in camp. The Wests took plenty of trips to the city to spend time with the Pascals. Adele’s twin, on the other hand, had never really gotten along with Lenina. Lenina never understood how she could get along so well with one of the twins but not the other. When the Pascals joined camp, she finally got it. Riana was nothing like Adele, each of them took after a different grandparent. Riana was somewhat of a stereotypical daughter of Aphrodite. Besides the fact that they looked the same, the twins were exactly the opposite of each other.

Riana was the first to join the gropu at the table. Lenina knew that Riana had just woke up, but she looked as though she had spent hours to prepare herself for breakfast. The daughter of Athena couldn’t help but be jealous of the girl. Riana could have any person inside of Camp Half Blood. Lenina had only been kissed once, and she spent most of her time trying to forget it had happened. The male had been one of her brother’s closest friends while he was a camper. When her brother found out that he was trying to get with Lenina, he beat the male up. Seating herself, Riana glanced to Lenina, “How do you sleep on that bed?” She questioned as she began to explain how painful the bed was to sleep on. There were better beds inside of the Aphrodite cabin. They had the best of the best, as long as it had to do with beauty. Lenina wasn’t as picky with her beds, she hardly ever slept. Most nights she stayed up studying. She never wore make up, and was used to picking up the first thing she could find and putting it on. Lenina wasn’t a stereotypical girl, her father always had been telling her that she was just like her mother when they were teenagers. Remi said that she didn’t agree with him and that Lenina was nothing like the daughter of Hermes.

Lenina wasn’t positive whether that was a good thing or not. “Riana, be polite, we are thanksful that the Wests allowed us to stay in their home.” Tristan and Colter went back and forth for a minute about their stay. Colter went on saying that it was no problem while Tristan stated that they were so thankful. Remi seemed to have a random mood swing. “Okay, we get it, you’re thankful, stop going on about this.” The largely pregnant woman demanded towards the two males. Lenina took the final bite of fruit from her plate, just as Adele made her way to the table. Realizing that the bathrooms were open, Lenina got out of her seat and took her plate to the kitchen. “I’m going to shower and change.” She told the group as they began to talk about what Adele and Riana’s plans were after summer camp.

The daughter of Athena made her way to her bedroom. The twins' belongings were left in the room, and Lenina had to make her way around them. When she got to her closet, she opened the door to find her clothes all lined up by color. Her mother must have done it while she was staying at Conrad's house. It was a clear summer day in New Athens. Lenina grabbed a stripped dress and headed towards the bathroom. Pulling off the clothes that she wore to bed, she turned on the shower and allowed the water to heat up. Once it was warm enough, she stepped under the water and allowed it to pour down on her body. There was so much going on in Lenina’s life, and she needed a break away from everything. She washed and conditioned her hair before turning off the water and drying herself off with a towel. Picking up the dress she had brought in with her, she changed into the dress and pulled her hair into a braid that laid loosely straight down her back.

Hanging up the towel she used, Lenina headed back downstairs. She passed by the twins on the way down. “I can’t believe that I have to be here right now.” She could hear Riana as she reached the first floor. Her mother was sitting at the table talking to Spencer, but looked up to talk to Lenina when she walked by them. “We’re going to give them a tour around New Athens since they haven’t been here in awhile.” Lenina couldn’t even remember the last time that her godparents had been in New Athens. She wouldn’t be surprised if they had never been there. The daughter of Athena walked into the kitchen where her father and godfather were having a conversation and washing the dishes from breakfast. She sat down in their small kitchen nook and took out a book she had been reading. The book was written on the topic of owls, an animal that had always intrigued Lenina. Part of her interest came from the factor that she was able to speak with the birds.

It felt like forever before everyone else was ready to leave the house. Her hair was almost dry, but she decided to leave it in the braid. Usually she would take it down and then pull it into a bun. She enjoyed change at times. Following the rest of the group out of the house, she locked the door and joined them walking down the street. They walked at a slower pace, so as to not make her mother feel like she had to push herself to keep up with them. Riana was obviously not having fun following the group of them around. She kept mumbling things under her breath. At the corner, they took a right and headed into the main part of town. Small shops were on both sides of the street. Her parents waved to neighbors and business owners as they passed by. Her father was the person in charge of making sure shops were up to par, and he was the one that allowed them to put their shop in the town in the first place. They passed a bakery, jewelry store, and the Li family’s childcare. Crossing the street, Colter went on about how long it took them to create the museum they were about to enter. It only opened earlier that week, and had been ecstatic when the doors opened. Walking into the building, Lenina looked around and realized what the museum held instantly. It was the first time she had been in the building, her parents wanted her to wait until the Pascals could join them.

The building was full of artifacts that were from demigods of the past. Trophies hung on walls and sat on pillars. They were gifts from demigods that had gone on quests and defended camp. Colter seemed to be somewhat nostalgic looking at the objects before him. Shaking his head, he focused back on the group of people around him. After a minute Riana interrupted their parents, “This is all very interesting, but can we into the camp?” Even though Lenina had heard her mumbling about not wanting to be there, she would rather be away from her parents. Tristan seemed annoyed that she wasn’t willing to spend time with her family, but he nodded his head. “Come on,” Riana stated as she headed towards the door. She was talking to Adele and Lenina, who followed behind her.

Camp was a short walk away from where the museum lay. Odette, Riana and Adele’s half sister, quickly joined them as they walked towards the border of the city. Making their way into the camp, they could see tons of campers trying to help to prepare the welcoming party. It seemed to be hard for some of them to say no to Conrad. Her brother stood trying to hang a couple of streamers onto posts. Phil and Sarah Li stood holding the streamers and helping Conrad reach higher places. When the group of four joined them, Conrad hesitated when he saw Adele. Turning towards his sister he started, “Hey, do you think you could help around here for a bit?

Landon Reed felt as though his life had always been a lie. Life was not going as he had hoped when he was a child. His father had showered him with gifts whenever life seemed to be getting hard. Landon had difficulties with learning, he had never been able to read and focusing on classes took too much effort. His father didn't want to admit that there was something different about him. It wasn't until he turned fourteen that he finally understood what was going on with him. His father needed to put him somewhere, he had business out of country and couldn't take Landon with him. Camp was the only option for him, and he had gained multiple papers on one called Camp Half Blood. Greyson, his father, didn't care what camp he went to, as long as he was happy with it. When he arrived, he realized he was finally in a place where he fit in. All of the other campers were just like him, learning problems and all. There had also been something odd about him while he grew up. When people gave him a hard time, it seemed they always had a terrible situation within a few days. As well as if people were kind to him, they had luck after a day or two. When Landon was claimed by his mother, who he believed to be dead, it all made sense. His mother is Tyche, the Greek goddess of luck. Inside of camp he was taught how to better control his luck giving, though he was no longer able to know if they would get good or bad luck. It wasn't hard for him to ask his father to allow him to return to the same camp for the next summer. His father didn't ask him what kind of a camp it was. Landon wasn't as close to his father as his mortal friends were with their parents. He wasn't sure why they weren't so close, but they had problems throughout his life. Landon never felt close enough to tell him any of his feelings. The only time he felt accepted was when he was in camp. Even then, he had the smallest amount of siblings it seem, there were only two campers inside of the Tyche cabin.

His younger half sister, Callie, was a year round camper. Landon had thought about asking his father to allow him to spend more time at camp, but he would have to have a conversation with his father that he wouldn't want to have. Besides, his father seemed to enjoy the compliments he got for raising his son all on his own. Landon didn't think that his father did well with the raising part, but the nannies and sitters did a job well enough. Girls found his father attractive and lovely when they realized that he had dealt with being a single parent. Now that he graduated high school, he would be able to choose where he wanted to go. New Athens had a college of their own. Landon knew he would be to talk his father in allowing him to go, telling him it was a qualified college. They had a website, for campers and demigods that were in his position, having to prove to their parents that it was somewhere they would want to send their children. The college would only accept demigods, so the mortals that tried to apply were just given a rejection letter. There were always some student angered by their rejection, but Landon knew they would accept him. they would accept any demigod. They studied majors that most people would ever imagine. Landon was excited to start university, and to live inside of New Athens. He would be allowed to do what he needed and be at the level he needed to be because of his parentage.

Walking into the camp where he would spend his summer, he watched as the car his father ordered drove off. Landon made his into the camp to find that there were people running around trying to set things up. There was always a welcoming party before camp, but Landon usually missed it, this year he wouldn't because his father was out of town. The first person to approach the male was his girlfriend Stephanie and a friend of theirs, Alex. Stephanie was of the Hecate cabin, although she was also half Apollo. Her father was the son of Hecate and mother the daughter of Apollo. Landon had been dating her for the last year now, and spent his time in camp with her. During the school year, he dealt with being apart from her, which he hated doing. “Chance, I didn’t know you were coming to camp early this year.” She seemed surprised to see the male there. He smiled to her, “Well, I wanted it to be a surprise. So I guess it worked.” Alex stood awkwardly before turning his head and mumbling something under his breath. Landon stood confused before the male walked away from the two. “What’s up with him?” He questioned Stephanie as she shrugged her shoulders. Taking his hand, Stephanie headed towards the cabins. Landon needed to drop his things off at the cabin before doing anything else at the camp. He brought anything that he thought would be important at camp with him. Since his cabin only had two people in it, he wasn’t worried that there wouldn’t be enough room, although, Callie complained to him every year about how he needed to bring less with him. Walking into the cabin, the daughter of Tyche was lying on her bed reading a magazine. She had always been interested in fashion design. As soon as he entered the room, she turned to him and started to go on about some demigod. “I heard that Adele, Riana, and Aiden’s parents are here.” Landon gave a confused look to the younger girl. “Do you know who their parents are?” Landon shook his head; he didn’t spend much time with the other campers, mostly just Stephanie and Callie. “Their mother is only the greatest fashion designer of all time. I heard their father has put together multiple bands and has a voice as golden as the sun.” Landon watched his sister as she flipped through the magazine and smiled thinking about the Pascal family.

Landon began to put his things away before thinking about what he was going to do for the rest of the day. This was the earliest he had ever arrived to camp, and he wasn’t sure what campers did when they were here before camp had started. There were no schedules at this point, when they weren’t taking classes in New Athens they had nothing left to do. He knew he wasn’t going to cuddle up to his sister and sit looking through magazines, but that’s all that seemed to be happening in their cabin. Once his things were put away, Landon stepped out of the cabin to see someone who wasn’t supposed to be in camp anymore. The male walked to Landon a smile on his face, although he looked tired. “Chance, I didn’t know you were going to be here early this year.” The males name was Conrad West; he was the son of the creator of New Athens. Up until last year he had been a camper along with Landon, but when he turned twenty, like most campers, he turned his attention to work and life outside of camp. He was surprised that Conrad knew he didn’t usually come to the welcoming party. “I finished school early since it’s my senior year.” Conrad nodded at him, as though he didn’t know what else to say to the son of Tyche. They had never really talked while Conrad was a camper. Conrad’s younger sister caught Landon’s eye, but he turned his attention to Stephanie when they began to date. “Well, I’m in charge of putting together the welcoming party this year, and we were thinking that it would be a good idea to have a carnival for all of the campers. We were also hoping that each cabin would be able to run a different booth. So if it wouldn’t be too much to ask, would you and Callie be open to running a booth together.” Landon wasn’t excited to do something of the sort, but before he could voice his opinion Callie was standing on the porch behind him. “That sounds great, Conrad. Doesn’t it Landon?” She questioned while glancing at the male who had no choice but to nod his head. “Thanks you two, there will be a booth set up for you guys, just stop by when you can and if you have something in mind we can help design and set things up for you.” Callie nodded and smiled at Conrad before he walked away from the cabin.

Did you have to get us in the middle of that?” Landon wasn’t looking forward to spending time running a booth. He hated little kids, so he was hoping that he wouldn’t have to help with them. Callie rolled her eyes at her brother before heading back to the cabin, and here bed where she would continue to look through the magazine. Before entering the door, she turned to her brother. “It can’t be smart getting on the bad side of Conrad. He’s the son of the head of New Athens, not only that, but it’s clear that they are planning for him to take over when his father retires. He’s one year out of camp and already heading the welcoming party. There are people on that committee that have been waiting for years to be in charge of something like that.” She had a point, but Landon just waved his hand as he walked towards the Hecate cabin. Knowing Stephanie she would have agreed to help Conrad as well and Landon wanted to know what other campers’ plans were, before he had to make up his own booth with Callie.

Walking up the door, he could hear people talking on the other side. Without knocking the door opened. “Hey, Chance!” A boy called from the back of the room. Landon spent enough time around the Hecate cabin that they had all grown used to his random arrivals. “You can come in, but I think Stephanie went out to work on the booth with Alex.” Landon walked into the cabin, one of the campers handed him a cup of tea, promising that nothing weird was in it. Last time he took food from them, he was in a happy daze for hours. He just smiled and laughed about anything that happened. The Hecate cabin learned not to mess with him the hard way. They ended up with bad luck for the next week. He hadn’t been positive that they would get bad luck, but if they had been lucky for so long, someone in camp would have tried to steal from them. Luck seemed to cause fights in the camp, and children weren’t allowed to give out luck as often as some campers would like. Besides, Callie and Landon had some enemies. Namely the Nemesis cabin who hated them, their mothers were sisters and Nemesis didn’t seem to agree with Tyche’s luck. Sitting down on a chair the Hecate siblings placed for him, he took a seat. One of Stephanie’s brothers, Kevin glanced over to Landon. “You and Stephanie are still dating right?” Landon found this to be an odd question from his girlfriend’s sibling, but he nodded his head. “Oh, sorry I was just wondering because she has been spending a lot of time with Alex.” Des looked glanced at Kevin. “Kev, that’s none of your business.” Landon took a sip of tea and then placed it on the chair he was sitting on. “Thanks for the tea, but I should head out, get ready for the carnival tomorrow.” Kevin nodded agreement, and Des stared at the ground as Landon walked out the door.

Landon’s feet headed for the carnival grounds before he could decide what to do next. He wasn’t stupid enough to run head on for Alex, but he wanted to see how the two were spending time together. It wasn’t hard to find where the carnival was set up. There was a row of booths for cabins. There were enough people running around that Landon walked down the row without anyone noticing. Hecate’s booth was on the very end of the row of booths. As much as Landon wanted to see how the son of Poseidon was acting around his girlfriend, he also knew he needed to work on his booth. As he walked down, he saw Demeter’s petting zoo, Eros’ dunk tank, and Nike’s pegasi ride starting to come together. He had no idea what Callie and him would be able to do, they weren’t going to be able to give out luck, and they weren’t too known for anything else. He was almost to the Hecate cabin when he ran into Conrad and a group of demigods following him. “Oh, Landon, sorry I didn’t even see you there. I should watch where I’m going.” He then noticed his cabin’s booth, plain and boring. Conrad seemed to see what he was looking at. “Thad, Adele, Leni, would you mind helping Landon and the Tyche cabin?” Lenina agreed to do so and Thadeus didn’t seem to have anything else to do. Adele joined the rest of them shortly after and Lenina was the first to speak. “So, what are you thinking about doing for your booth?” She questioned looking at the blank booth. “Well, I was thinking,” Landon had no idea where he was going. “Some sort of dice game.” Lenina glanced at the male as though the idea was idiotic, but she just nodded and pulled down the name place and found some paint. Landon then figured they would need a table of some sort with sides to keep the dice in. Thadeus heard and began to build something that would do what Landon asked for. With everything going on, Landon forgot why he had come over here in the first place, and walked to help Thadeus, as Lenina called Adele over to help her.

Adele Pascal was a morning person. The traffic coming back from the Hamptons where they had spent the first week of summer was more backed up then the line going into Hades and they had arrived much later at the West house than her parents planned. By the time they got to Leni’s place there wasn’t much talking just a few rushed hellos before everyone bedded down for the night. Despite the late arrival as soon as the sun started to streak its way through the morning sky the blonde’s bright blue eyes were open ready to get the day started. Getting out of her best friend’s bed Adele and moved to her bag to get a micro chip and then plugged it into the wall ”Open playlist Sunrise Salutation.” she commanded the smart panel in the house. Instantly calming music started to fill the silence that had settled in the daughter of Athena’s room ”Oh you have got to be kidding me with this.” her twin grumbled from her prone position on the bed. Moving to the window the girl drew back the blinds so the budding light could reach her as she took position in the dim glow. Riana and Adele had stopped sharing a room when they stopped nursing, there wasn’t a real reason for them to share and their mother hated the idea of trying to morph twins into a matching unit. Every time they got lumped together it was always the same complaints when it came time for Adele to do her morning yoga. Starting with the sun salutation the girl started to perform the yoga moves closing her eyes and taking in deep breaths. With every deep breath in Adele pulled the sun’s warm healing energy into her body pushing out negative emotion and fear with her controlled exhales. Going on one leg the blonde brought her other leg up behind her arching her body so that she could hold onto her airborne foot creating a lopsided circle with her body; taking in a slow breath concentrating on her breathing as a gong sounded from her tantric music ”Stop the insanity!” her twin groaned. With her eyes still closed Adele could feel the smirk growing on her face ”Come on Ri embrace your inner Apollo.” she teased causing a pillow to sail at her missing as she changed position ”Your aim sucks, you have to allow for target movement at the very least.” she told her sister in a sing song voice. Riana let out a frustrated noise and buried herself beneath the pillows and blankets letting Adelaide finish her morning sun greeting.

Taking her smart chip from the wall the demigoddess grabbed her overnight bag and headed to the bathroom, her sister muttering ”Gods be praised” as she left. Dropping her bag in the floor of the bathroom the girl popped her chip into the wall opening up the linen closet ”Load shower settings regular, randomize playlist” she instructed removing a towel. The shower started automatically adjusting to what Adele preferred for her shower while one of her favorite song writers filled the shower space from the data on her chip. Slipping into the shower the girl started to wash herself humming along to the songs playing just over the sound of the shower. While she cleaned herself the girl started to make a mental plan for the day. Adele was going on a tour of New Athens with her family after breakfast. She knew the city like the back of her hand because she was partially response for its defense during the busy seasons but her parents rarely got to spend time in New Athens between successful and highly public careers so she consented. After that she needed to head into camp and go to her cabin to make sure things were going smoothly for the start of the summer. She wasn’t going to be long, just enough to grab the reports and make sure that beds were being made for the influx of Apollo campers with summer here and then she had to head back. Conrad was arranging a carnival to welcome the campers back along with the normal dinner and had asked the heads of the cabins to have at least one booth to represent their cabin. Adele was making a dart game with water balloons, inside each balloon was a prize level, each ticket was redeemable for one of three different level prizes. The bigger prizes would be higher up and a harder angle to hit with the darts but doable and the smaller prizes were set up so almost anyone who could toss a dart could win. She also had Two Truths and a Lie game where if the teller could beat the child of Apollo they would get a prize. After she was done helping Conrad she would need to come back and get ready for the evening knowing that her mother had a special outfit planned for each of them.

Getting out of the shower the girl toweled her hair as dry as it was going to get and left it down so the air could finish the job as she dressed. Unlike her sister Adele was fine with the camp’s shirts, she liked her comfortable organic cotton orange shirt, so she didn’t see any need to dress any differently today than what she would be wearing for the most of the summer. Dressed Adele headed back to Leni’s room to find her father knocking on the doorframe ”Everybody up in here?” he asked peaking his head in. ”Excuse me Daddy.” she smiled brightly passing him, Tristan smiled at her and gave a nod of his head then winked a blue eye at her ”That’s my girl, make sure your sister gets up.” there was a slight sigh in his voice as he looked at Riana. Adele nodded and went up a little on her toes to reach her father’s cheek before he left. The traffic hadn’t been their only problem leaving the Hamptons. Riana was furious that she had to go to camp this year. Over the past few years her modeling had really taken off and she began to become a house hold name and having to work less and less but was paid more and more. The way her twin put it was that she had stopped being invited to social events as Spencer and Tristan’s daughter but as Riana Gann. She thought that life as a demigod was some big joke and it was a waste for her to be at camp rather than lounging on the beach in the Hamptons. ”Come on Ri wake up breakfast and then the tour.” Adele said moving to the bed removing the blankets and pillows from her sister. ”Oh my Gods! This is torture you know that right? It is summer I mean hello.” her sister complained pushing herself out of bed. Adele made a face and shook her head looking for her necklace as she slid her silver barrette into her hair ”Like that makes a difference you sleep the day away no matter what season it is.” she said. The barrette had once belonged to their mother and transformed into a bow, the necklace that laid on Leni’s night stand transformed into a quiver and specialized arrows; a gift from her uncle Jake. ”There are just so many things deeply wrong with you I don’t know where to begin.” her sister said motioning to her and shaking her head before leaving the room.

After finding her sun glasses and pulling on some socks and her lucky pair of orange high tops she left the room and went downstairs with a cheery ”Good morning” that went largely unnoticed because of a hormone outburst from Remi. According to Leni the pregnant woman was irritable and there was a lot of stress around the West house that had led to her staying with Conrad the past few months and his control over the welcome back festivities. Perfectly on cue with her mother’s snappy response her friend jumped up wanting to shower and change and bolted upstairs. Taking a seat Adele smiled as her father poured her glass of orange juice after her mother’s and before her sister’s ”Daddy shouldn’t we wait for Aiden?” Adele asked knowing her brother would be along any second. Much like herself Aiden was born gifted by Apollo rather than Aphrodite and he too was a morning person. ”I sent him with Conrad just a few minutes ago to help with the carnival.” the pregnant woman told her. Adele made a face, not only would she be without Aiden but she had missed Conrad as well, that was like a double whammy. Aiden was almost like her second in command, she knew that if she delegated tasks to Aiden they would get done and done right. Conrad on the other hand was just pleasing to look at, his strong jaw and deep hazel eyes that were rimmed and flecked with grey. Adele had been in love with Conrad since she first became interested in boys, he was so smart and athletic and he was a good person. The second Adele turned eighteen she was going to confess to him and they could be together and their families would be official; one more short year before they could be together.

After everyone was ready to leave the house they set out on the tour. It wasn’t anything new that really jumped out at Adele but she did her best to pay attention to Colter as he spoke about this building or that business. The real attraction on the tour was the museum that had just been started when Adele was last in camp; it was finished now and ready to be opened. Inside were all types of artifacts from the collective demigods past that they had quested, earned, or crafted including the famed Bow of Apollo. The bow was said to be the God Apollo’s from the great war and any demigod who tried to draw it had perished, except for Tristan Pascal. It was beautiful and powerful and Adele’s fingers itched to wrap around the weapon and let some fletch fly but she would probably go up in a burst of flames like everyone else that had ever tried. ”My old bow…” her father said smiling wistfully at the case, Adele smiled up at her father and nodded her head ”I know right? I mean you have done a lot of awesome things in your life Daddy but this is by far the… best thing you ever did hands down.” she said nodding her head in reverence. Tristan gave a small chuckle and shook his head ”Believe me it’s up there but in no way can it even compare to the best thing I have ever done.” her father said wrapping an arm around her shoulder and kissing the top of her head. Adele smiled a warm feeling taking over her body knowing that he meant his family was the best thing that he had ever done, better than anything he had done for the glory of Apollo or Olympus. ”This is all very interesting, but can we go into the camp?” her sister asked sounding annoyed causing Adele’s eyes to automatically roll. Tristan released Adele and gave a sigh but nodded his head. Reaching up Adele planted a kiss on his cheek ”See you guys at dinner.” she said brightly before moving away with her sister and friend.

Making their way across city limit onto the camp grounds the group was joined by a leggy strawberry blonde. Though the girl lived in Leni’s cabin she automatically glommed onto Riana, whom she also shared godly ancestry with, which was just fine with Adele because now she didn’t have to hear Riana complain now that she had someone to worship her. Conrad was hanging streamers with Sarah and Phil while people where starting to build their booths around them. Once the streamer was done Conrad looked at her causing Adele to look down at her Chuck Taylor’s until he asked if they minded helping out. It was on her to do list anyway and Adele couldn’t refuse Conrad anything ”Sure, I’ll go check on my booth and see what I have to work on.” she nodded looking up and biting her lower lip. Gods she just wanted to kiss him. Instead she moved away walking down the line of stalls for the carnival. Her booth area was easy to spot, her brother Aiden was directing two of the other Apollo campers on how full to make the water balloons for tomorrow, the wall already built and the sign painted; the other booth was in the process of being decorated as there wasn’t much else to do with the booth. ”Wow Aiden, it looks great. Just like we talked about.” the blonde beamed ruffling her brother’s golden locks. Aiden grinned at the praise from his older sister and nodded his head ”Thanks, it’s really coming together.” he agreed. ”I’ll help paint the truth booth and you keep on keeping on little brother.” she told him moving over to help her campers with the booth. Painting with her younger siblings she chatted about which boys were hottest this year a camp, a few of them were working shirtless on the booths showing off.

Though she was only interested in Conrad, who did not have his shirt off, she giggled with her sisters as they painted their second booth until Conrad asked if she could help out one of the smaller cabins. Even if she could have refused Conrad that wasn’t much of a reason too; her area was basically done and what little there was left to do really could be done by the others under Aiden’s guidance. Joining the shirtless Thad and her best friend the girl sighed when Landon, the cabin leader said that he was doing some sort of dice game. Adele didn’t know Landon very well, just from cabin head meetings and he never seemed to be very interested in anything important claiming chance would decide. Adele tried not to judge, that was Riana’s thing, he just seemed uninterested. He started to describe what he wanted and Adele’s nose wrinkled, wholly uninterested. Didn’t he understand this was important? It represented not only his cabin but also Conrad. Moving to help her friend she sat down and started to paint a large T while Leni started a cube for the die. ”This idea seems a little hastily put together I guess he just decided to not plan anything and leave it to chance if his booth sucked or not.” the blonde said to her friend knowing the meticulous Lenina would also be annoyed by the lack of a more well formed plan. ”Oh when we get back to the house remind me to show you Aiden’s end of the year performance, you know he got into Lakeview with me this year right? Music program, uck he was so shy it was adorable. He is going to grow up into a lady killer one of these days.” she gossiped with her friend as she moved to paint the other letters of Tyche’s name.

”Theo come on we have to do carnival stuff in the morning.” the demigod’s friend told him as they made their way from the Wainwrith house. ”Come on we are making a strong man game and then I’m floating people, we could put those booths together in our sleep.” Theo grinned looking over at his friend. The son of Hercules made a face but he knew that Theo was right, Thad was just being Thad; entirely too cautious. ”You don’t have to come if you don’t think you can handle it.” the boy said with a shrug looking to his friend. Thad’s face set in determination as he shook his head ”Please, there isn’t anything I can’t handle.” he replied and Theo knew it was the last he would hear from Thad about this not being the best idea. Falling into silence to not draw attention to themselves the two demigods made their way slowly to the back edge of the property that protected them from the monsters. ”Looks like there will be some action tonight after all, I thought you and baby Thaddy might not show.” the son of Poseidon said grinning showing himself, his new girl friend Stephanie holding his hand. Theo’s friend stepped forward with his fist clenched, raising his arm the son of Zeus shook his head ”Considering you aren’t god enough to get them up every time you cross I’d watch who I called a baby.” Theo told his rival. Thad had crossed with him probably hundreds of times and he had seen his best friend fight like a demon every time with no mark of Achilles to safe guard him. Thad Lupin could hang tough with the children of the Big Three. ”Whatever Double Dip are we doing this or not?” Alex growled in response his hand leaving his girl’s so that he could form fists. ”And have the audience miss the show? Are you that scared you’re going down Fish Face?” Theo asked letting his voice take a baby sing along quality to it. ”No, he’s afraid I’ll make him look like a punk.” a voice said moving towards them before Shane Maverick joined them, his girl friend the leggy and blonde Riana at his side. ”You know there was traffic coming from the real city.” the beautiful girl explained their tardiness in such a way she could insult New Athens in the process.

As Theo, Thad, Shane, and Alex armed up Theo could hear creatures already roaming on the other side of the boarder, attracted by the heavy demigod smell so close to the edge. A small crowd of people had gathered eager to watch the four demigods cross the boundary line and fight the monsters lying in wait for them. ”Theo!” a younger girl called out to him, it was Sun the head of Nike cabin. ”Hey Sun, glad you could make it. Never seen you here before.” he smiled down at the young half Asian watching her a blush grow on her cheeks. ”Maybe you will after this. I’m rooting for you.” she flirted up at him, it was sort of cute. Theo gave a little chuckle and leaned close to the girl ”Good to know. Can’t hurt to have my own little demigoddess of victory cheering me on from the side lines.” he told the girl before gently pressing the tip of her nose with his finger. Sun’s face went entirely pink seconds before she rose up on her tip toes to close the gap between them ”Then that should seal the win for you.” she said moving away from him to retreat back to her friends. The kiss had landed too far to be on the corner of his mouth but not far enough to be on his cheek but it was still cute that she had tried. She had fire in her belly and Theo liked that. Moving to stand by his friend Theo drew his sword knowing the second both feet were across the line he would be taking heat almost immediately. ”Cradle robber.” Thad teased drawing his weapon as well. Theo just shook his head and smirked as Shane looked over at them ”Are we doing this or what?” he asked slipping his left hand into his celestial bronze tiger claw. ”Let’s do it.””Let’s do it.” the friends said in sync as they launched themselves across the invisible line between safety and danger.

Almost instantly Alex and Shane peeled away but Thad stayed at his side matching his pace ”Theo! Nine o’clock!” his friend warned as something scaly slammed into him. Scrambling up he felt claws rake across his impenetrable body doing little more than tickling him as he thrust his sword up into the beast’s gut. Turning he found Thadeus lopping the head off of a gorgon from behind, the corpse dusting out before the head could even hit the ground. There wasn’t time to celebrate the early lead because the air started to shimmer around them, the smell of sulfur thick in the air ”Love the smell of hellhounds in the middle of the night.” he said cockily as a six hell hounds formed a ring around the heroes now standing back to back. The beasts snarled and snapped at the heroes smelling them trying to drink in fear that simply wasn’t there to be had; lunging forward Theo felt his sword connect slicing the hound’s stomach open spilling out its inner workings that changed to dust in the wind. Theo could hear the demigods that were watching cheering them on screaming his and Thad’s name; he could also feel a hellhound trying to use him as a chew toy and sent his blade up through its skull. Lunging at another he could see his friend on the back of one hellhound slitting its throat jumping from its disintegrating body into the frame of another beast sword first. By the time Theo had managed to slay his third hell hound Thad had also conquered his, both boys breathing hard from the battle. With their battle senses going full blast both warriors noticed the movement heading back in towards the barrier from the field and tensed. Monsters typically didn’t try for a full out assault on the border, with the Golden Fleece in place there wasn’t much use in it. Only it wasn’t monsters that was coming for them.

Alex was helping Shane move, his left arm dangling sickly at his side as they hobbled ”RUN!” the son of sea yelled as they moved. Seconds later something burst after them slithering on the ground, obviously whatever had injured them ”Cover them I’ll stall that!” Thad ordered. Theo nodded, it made sense; he couldn’t be hurt and was much better used as a shield for the wounded than the distraction. Going towards his rival he met them and started to run backwards covering their back hoping to his father that if they were met with a frontal attack that they would be able to fend it off between the two of them. There was a flash as Thad threw knifes into the monster forcing it to take note of him rather than the injured. Slowing and drawing to full height to deal with Thad, Theo turned and swooped Shane up fireman style and started for the safe line Alex breaking out into a full run beside him unburdened. Crossing the line into the waiting demigods there was panic and buzz building the boy dumped his load and turned to see the monster. She was as tall as Thadeus would have been if he was standing on Theo’s shoulders, from the waist down she was scaly like a snake, her top female half was somewhat beautiful minus the unhinged jaw and serpent tongue as she striked at Thad ”Fool I am LAMIA!” the monster howled after missing and receiving a cut along her scaled lower body. Without thought Theo rushed back across the line to help his friend fight as he dodged and rolled stabbing the monster ”BOOST ME!” he screamed at his friend, stopped Theo raised his hand and lifted his friend airborn with a quick gust. With the launch Thad let loose ”For Olympus!” before plunging his sword into the monster and riding her flesh back down towards the ground, ichor spilling over him from the wound. The demigods behind them started to cheer as Theo made his way to his friend and clasped his hand helping him up ”We make one hell of a team.” he grinned to his friend who nodded in agreement ”One hell of a team.” he chuckled. Moving back to the safe zone there was a smile on his face knowing that they had most definitely won tonight’s game.

even a children of the big three need sleep

Though he had washed the grime before heading to bed last night Theo wanted a hot shower first thing when he woke up. Once he was done he threw on some jeans, Pumas, and a simple grey ribbed A-tank before heading downstairs. There was his father was sitting at the table looking over some papers while his mother stood at the stove cooking eggs and sausages for breakfast, she was easily making double what they would eat but she had never quite broken her habit of cooking for a crowd from her years as a hunter of Artemis. Not wanting to wait for the protein he grabbed up a set of buttered toast and broke it open moving to slather apple butter on the dried bread before sitting down. His father raised a brow looking at him then looked back to the papers ”So how many did you get last night?” the man asked. Somehow no matter how careful he was his parents knew when he went out of the house at nights. ”Four, but I did have a pretty awesome assist with Thad on the Lamia.” he said not bothering to sounds remorseful for what he had done. ”Lamia?! You are so irresponsible!” his mother said slamming a plate down in front of him. Here they went again, he was a leader blah blah blah; his scent was too strong to cross the border blah blah blah; he was endangering his friends blah blah blah. ”Look they know the risk of going out there and they know the risk of going with me alright so get off my back!” Theo yelled angrily slamming his fist on the table blue eyes crackling with lightning before he stood. Theo didn’t see what the big deal was, they were demigods; they were meant to live short but glorious lives. Theo knew that he smelled strong; he had not one but two Big Three gods’ blood in his veins putting a target on his back. Every time he had ventured out of the line he had been attacked, even as an infant, which had prompted his parents to dip him into the river Styx making him almost indestructible. There wasn’t a demigod around that didn’t know that about him unless they were fresh down Half Blood Hill, crossing with Theo was a guaranteed fight and they all knew that and were willing to risk it, wanted to risk it, craved risking it. If they wanted to make that choice that was up to them and Theo wasn’t going to coddle or babysit them for it, they were demigods. ”I got stuff to do for camp.” he told his parents not bothering to mention when or if he would be back before leaving from the back door with nothing beside toast in his stomach.

Arriving at the site for the carnival the boy was ready to vent his frustration via construction. His booth was going to be relatively easy, he and Sarah would take shifts gusting campers up and rolling them around simulating sky diving. Putting the booth together first to hammer out his anger at his mother he removed his shirt at some point and kept working until the booth was assembled but plain. Looking at the ugly stall he took out a stormy looking blue and started to pain it when his little sister Sarah and her brother Phil joined him ”Weak Link, Baby Z, what’s cracking?” he greeted with a weak pun. Sarah rolled her eyes ”Don’t call him Weak Link Theo.” his sister told him annoyed. Theo shrugged and went about coating the wood with his blue paint as Sarah started to complain about how ugly their booth was even with the paint. After some discussion back and forth about how to design their booth it was decided that Theo would just leave it to Sarah and go help someone else with their construction. Immediately he went to Thad who was working on making his display, the strong man game. So far his friend had the base and the pressure pad built when he greeted him ”What do you need help with?” he asked looking around. Thad set him to work on the backing that would hold the bell at the top as well as the tube that the ringer would travel up to hit the bell. Between the two of them they had Thad’s game set up quickly so when Sun swung by asking if Theo could come help her build the enclosure for the winged horses for tomorrow’s rides he agreed parting with Thad who was grinning at him mouthing ’CRADLE ROBBER’ to him behind Sun’s back.

Theo took over the fence building from the girl allowing her to pass him tools and gush about how amazing he had been last night battling. There was flirtation between them even though Theo knew she was too young for him as he worked. When he was done he left her with a wink ”Hope I see you tonight.” he told her before leaving to go find Thad. His friend was helping the Tyche cabin build their booth while Adele Pascal and Leni West painted the sign for the booth ”Ladies looking beautiful.” he complimented passing the girls. Both girls were gorgeous: Leni was the bookish but sexy type and Adele was daughter of Aphrodite beautiful but she was too cool to care about it. Moving to the boys he nodded at Landon, whom he knew from camp business but little else and instead asked Thad what needed to be done. ”I want to go out again tonight, what do you think?” he asked his friend once he had a task to keep his hands busy. Thad made a face and shrugged ”I mean tomorrow is a big day and we don’t need a repeat of last night. Shane’s arm is all good today, I don’t know who he got to heal him but that was close.” Thad said. Theo rolled his blue eyes ”Please the closest thing about last night was how close I came to telling Stephanie to shut it. Fish Face had what some bruises maybe a cut and she was losing her s**t like he was the one who got his arm mangled by Lamia.” Theo scoffed. Thad laughed and shook his head ”I know but I’m baby Thaddy. I didn’t see him slay anything.” Thad said shaking his head.

                                              OUTFIT

Once they were asked to help around the Adele went off to check out her own cabin. Lenina thought that it would be smart to do the same, but her brother seemed to be in a bit of a chaotic situation. Instead, she followed him around and carried posters and banners around placing them where he wanted. It took them about a half hour to get everything up that Conrad needed help with. Lenina didn't mind helping her brother out when he needed it, but when they were finished and she was going to head over to her own cabin, he asked her to help one of the smaller cabins. She couldn't easily say no to her brother, and she didn't want to, seeing the amount of stress put on him. She agreed and followed the small group to the booth saved for the Tyche cabin. Landon, the head of the cabin didn't seem to know what he wanted to do, and when Lenina asked him, he seemed to pull something out of thin air. Lenina turned to Adele and found the paint that was sitting around the camp, open for any campers to use. They began to paint the sign for his cabin, and Adele started about how foolish Landon was being. Lenina nodded her head to the female. “He could have put a little more thought into his booth.” Lenina added as she painted the dice on the sign next to where Adele was painting Tyche's name. She just did as she was told to do, at least for the day. She didn't mind her brother bossing her around for his first major project. She was about to paint the dots on the side of the dice, when her half brother made his way to the Tyche booth. From behind them, Lenina heard a voice, “Leni, you're going to want to come visit the Athena cabin's booth.” The voice came from her half brother. The daughter of Athena turned to Adele, “Sorry, I'm going to have to dip out on you. I'll see you later though.” Conrad had offered everyone who helped him out, a free lunch. Lenina wasn't sure if she would see Adele at lunch of if it would wait until dinner. Her father had forced Conrad to promise that he would eat dinner with the Pascal family when they arrived in New Athens.

Walking towards the cabin, she realized that Alden seemed to look somewhat nervous. “What's wrong, Al?” He stumbled over his feet when she asked him what was wrong. He didn't want to tell his older sister what was on his mind, but Lenina wasn't going to let him get away with it. “Come on Al, you can't hide things from me. You know I'll just figure out what you're trying to keep away from me. Do you want me to find out from someone else or from you?” Al began to mess with his scarf that he had been wearing. He had been teased a lot for wearing things such as this, but Callie, his best friend, demanded that he would wear what she told him to do. “It's just, Odette has kind of made a mess of our booth, I tried to stop her but it didn't work too well. She doesn't want to listen to me.” It was clear that this wasn't what was on Al's mind, but before Lenina could push him into telling her, she saw what he was talking about. Odette had painted their entire booth bright pink, the theme for their booth was some sort of quiz game. At least, that was what Lenina was able to take away from the large question marks made from gems and jewels. Her older half sister, Odette, was walking round telling people where to go and what to hang up. Lenina couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the female who was standing telling everyone what to do. Their other siblings did not seem pleased with the amount of work that Odette was placing on them, as expected; she had thousands of ‘great ideas’ but never wanted to put any work towards them. Picking up one of the cards that she assumed was a question for the game. “Sculptor Drederic Auguste Bartholdi based the face of the Statue of Liberty on whom?” was written on the backside of the card. The thought of his mother ran through Lenina’s head, but placed the card down before she could think any more about challenging herself to the game.

Finding her half sister standing telling someone from a different cabin to level out one of the question marks, Lenina tapped her shoulder. “Do not touch me!” She shrieked as though Lenina was a ravenous male at camp who wanted to sleep with Odette. When she realized that, it was just Lenina she spat out, “Oh, it’s just you. Since you weren’t here when we began to work on the booth I thought that I would take over. I hope you don’t mind too much. Everyone thought that I my idea would be the best for the carnival.” Alden shook his head from behind where Odette stood talking. Lenina caught his eye has be shook his head but quickly turned back to work, so Odette didn’t see him. Trying to decide the best way to go about it, Lenina took a deep breath and turned towards her half sister. “I love that you’re enthusiastic about this activity, but I don’t think that the quiz game is a good idea. I don’t think it’s where Conrad wants to go with the carnival.” Everyone around could already see the rage building in Odette’s eyes. She began to tap her foot on the ground as Lenina went on about how the carnival was made for the younger campers to enjoy, and for the older campers to challenge themselves. It wasn’t’ fair to create a game that half of their own cabin wouldn’t be able to complete. “Fine, you don’t want my help?” Odette started as she began to storm away from the booth. “I’m done with you and I’m done with this cabin. My idea was better than any little thing that you could think of. We all know that and you’re being stupid. I hope that none of you follow her lead, she’s taking you nowhere.” When she was out of sight, Lenina took a deep breath and all of the people helping seemed to calm down and place their things down. Alden gave them orders to begin cleaning up the area and repainting the sign that would display their activity. They turned to the cabin leader for the idea that she had for the booth, “I was thinking that we might be able to do some sort of obstacle course. Something that really gets your brain thinking.” Alden nodded to the idea that she had. Taking the lead for the cabin about where they should go with the course and how they should set everything up. Lenina stuck in the back watching them put things together, but she got up and helped as they decided what to do with the sign. She knew that children of Athena all needed their voice to be heard, and she ran her cabin by allowing all of them to speak their mind whenever they thought it was correct. Of course, that led her to a bit of trouble with Odette, but so far, no one had sided with the half Aphrodite female.

                                              GET SOME FOOD IN ME

Walking to the mess hall, her cabin ran around joking about who was going to make it through their course without a scratch on them and who would fall on their butts the first minute. Reaching the door, the Athena cabin took a spot in the line but began to converse with people outside of their cabin. It was the first time some people were seeing each other since the last summer, and there were lots of hugs and hellos. Lenina was almost through the line before she realized that Zari was standing in front of her. Zari was a daughter of Hermes, and one of the most rational people Lenina knew. Almost too rational, some campers didn’t seem to like her for seeing any possibility for fault in their plans. Lenina thought that it was good to have someone like Zari around, someone who could figure out in a second if ideas were well thought out or a whim. They hugged each other, but once they got their meal they parted ways once more, Lenina standing before the fire to scrap a small amount of Greek yogurt into the fire. Giving a small pray to her grandmother before she made her way to the table. She saw Riana and Odette whispering about something in the line as they waited to get their meals. When the rest of the Athena cabin was sitting around the table they sat quietly and ate their meal, sometimes talking, but mainly eating their food.

                                              FAMILY TIME

Lenina had spent most of the rest of her day walking around with her brother to ensure that the cabins were ready for the following day. They wouldn’t have much time throughout the day to finish making their booths. In the morning, Conrad and some of his fellow workers would go through each booth and run through it. Just to make sure that it was safe for the campers. When Conrad finished his duties, he walked with his sister to their parents’ house. Soon Lenina would actually move out of the house, and their parents wouldn’t have their older children to help them around the house. Though, it wasn’t like Lenina was planning on moving anywhere too far. Besides, with Conrad beginning to take over their father’s job, Colter could begin to take more time off from work. When Lenina was born, both of their parents were constantly working, Lenina had spent most of her life as a toddler in Li’s daycare with other demigods who had working parents. She was later told that her father offered the idea for their mother to become a stay at home mother, but she always seemed too restless. The house was filled with scents of fresh baked bread and various herbs. They both went into the kitchen as though instinct. Remi was sitting on a stool by a counter, dropping vegetables into a bowl filled with lettuce. “Thank the gods that you’re letting dad do the cooking.” Conrad joked as he walked to Remi and gave her a peck on the cheek. Their mother gave a small roll of the eyes and smirk on her face as the family continued to joke about Remi’s disaster of cooking abilities. “Did dad tell you that once mom set the kitchen on fire?” Conrad joked to Spencer and Tristan who were helping their parents prepare dinner. “When Leni and I were kids, once mom tried to bake us cookies, they looked more like huge chunks of coal.” He went on as the kitchen erupted with laughter. Aiden appeared in the kitchen, brought down from all of the noise. “Aiden, come over here and pick out some toppings that you’ll want on your pizza.” Tristan called to his son when he entered the room. The younger demigod picked up a few different vegetables that were sitting on the counter. Remi noticed what he was choosing, and turned to her two children. Lenina was now sitting on a counter listening to the stories everyone was telling. “Why couldn’t you two be like Aiden? You’re too picky with your foods.” Conrad and Lenina both shrugged as their mother asked them.

The twins seemed to walk in at the same time, though from different doors. Riana’s seemingly terrible mood set the rest of the mood for the room. Conrad also became oddly interested in staring at the ground. There seemed to be a want to finish dinner and eat as quickly as possible, so there was a small line waiting to put their toppings onto their personal pizza. Everyone except for Riana, she plated a salad and sat down at the table. As the pizzas finished cooking, everyone else made their way to the table and into seats. Lenina was seated in between Adele and Conrad, a place that she usually tried to avoid being. Awhile back, Adele had admitted to having a thing for Conrad, and ever since Conrad had been avoiding her. Everyone started to eat, and the mood seemed to grow a little more pleasant, that was, until Riana decided to address something. “Lenina, I don’t understand why you couldn’t have just allowed Odette to run your booth. It’s not like you were around when they started the idea. I think that you weren’t being a good leader by stepping in and causing a problem with her.” Conrad glanced to his younger sister, wondering about what the problem was with her cabin. She wasn’t sure why, but he was the first one to talk after Riana. “Well, I believe I’m responsible for that Riana, I asked Leni to help me out, so she wasn’t able to work with her own cabin.” A loud clunking sound was brought to their ears before Riana stood from her seat. “Why can’t you stand up for yourself? You think you’re too good to help your cabin? No wonder why Odette has tried to kick you down from your spot so many times. You just hide behind everyone else.” Riana walked away from the room. There were a lot of things that Riana and Odette had in common. Lenina finished her meal before helping her father take the dishes into the dining room table. It was obvious that the parents would be talking later that night about the argument over dinner, but everyone acted as though it hadn’t happened. Dessert was eaten quickly, and Lenina excused herself from the group once Conrad thought that it was getting a tad late for him. He went on about needing to rise early, and left the house.

Lenina walked to the backyard, there was a small pool and a swing set from when Lenina and Conrad were children. The weather in New Athens was controlled, and never seemed to rain, unless it was a scheduled rain. Therefore, usually, Lenina left her books out in the yard. It was her favorite place to study, and her mother seemed to sleep talk at times, which meant she couldn’t study in her own room all of the time. Opening a book, she relaxed while reading it for a couple of hours. Lenina had never been good with sleeping; it seemed like such a pointless thing to do. She would rather be doing a million other things, so she spent most of the night studying. When her watched showed one thirty in the morning, Lenina closed her book and stood up. Walking into her house, she quietly made her way into the basement. Her pajamas were sitting neatly folded on her pillow. Grabbing them, she walked into the small bathroom downstairs and changed her clothes, then brushed her teeth and washed her face. Lying under the blankets, Lenina stared at the ceiling for what seemed like an hour before her eyes shut and she fell asleep.

It wasn’t long until Theo, son of Zeus, made his way over to where Landon and Thadeus were working on his booth. Landon didn’t know much about Thadeus or Theo, but he knew that they were close friends. He had also heard all of the stories from other campers about when Theo and Thadeus went outside of the borders. Being outside of them wasn’t something that Landon found intriguing. He spent his entire school year outside of them, trapped inside of his house, doing what his father wanted him to do. During the summer was the only time that he felt comfortable, and he didn’t enjoy the thought of going beyond the borders. Then again, if he was inside of the camp and New Athens for the entire year, he might see things differently. Theo and Thadeus seemed to be talking about their plans for going outside of the borders that night as well. Landon wasn’t paying much attention until his girlfriend’s name was brought up in conversation. He didn’t know what the boys were talking about, and he didn’t want to see too nosy or over protective of his girlfriend. Instead, he figured he’d just see what was going on for himself. “Hey, if you’re planning on going outside of the borders tonight, do you mind if I join you?” Theo didn’t seem to mind the thought of Landon going with them. Landon had always heard that it was up to whomever if they wanted to join them, as long as they knew it was dangerous. Thadeus, however, seemed a little more hesitant towards the male. “Sure, as long as you know that it’s dangerous. I mean, you never know what monsters are going to appear once you step outside of the border.” Landon nodded to the male to ensure him that he knew what he was doing. Thadeus let the rest of it drop after Landon told him that he knew what he was getting himself into with the borders. In reality, Landon had no idea what he was doing, and why he was going along with the border fight idea. He could just ask his girlfriend if she was having a relationship with a different demigod, but he wanted to see it for himself.

Before long, the rest of his booth was set up and they were being told that lunch was at the Mess Hall. Landon followed a group of demigods headed for the Mess Hall in order to get something to eat. His goal had been turned back to finding his girlfriend and speaking with her. After being told by her siblings that she was flirting around with someone else, and hearing what he had from Theo, he wanted to speak with her in private before assuming too much more. There was a possibility that everyone else was just confused and not understanding what was going on. He was unsure what to say to her, since he still wanted to wait and see what was going on. It wasn’t hard to find her once he walked into the Mess Hall. She was more popular than most of the children of minor gods. She always seemed surrounded by other demigods. A smile graced her lips as Landon walked over and gave her a small peck on the lips. She didn’t pull away or seem to not enjoy his public display of affection, in fact it felt as though she welcomed him when he neared her. He waited in line with her, holding her hand and chatting with her about how her day had been. Nothing seemed to be wrong in the way that they were responding to each other. Landon almost forgot what everyone had been saying until Alex walked up to the two of them. “Landon, how have you been doing?” He questioned. He looked a bit uneasy standing with the son of Tyche, from what he could tell. “I’m fine, much better now that I’m back at camp with Stephanie here.” He stated, in his best charming voice. Alex managed a smile, “I bet, she’s one awesome demigod.” Stephanie blushed as this was said, but before Landon could say anything else, the line was moving ahead and it was Landon’s turn to get something to eat. He picked up a turkey sandwich and an apple. Before leaving the table, he grabbed a sprig of grapes and walked to the sacrificing fire. Tossing the grapes in, he whispered a small pray to his mother. “Mother, thank you for watching over me, and ensuring that I got to camp once more this year. Please continue to watch over Stephanie and me.” He then sat down at his table; the only other person sitting there was his sister. She was already half way done with her meal. This wasn’t surprising, there was really no one to talk with so eating became the main focus at the Tyche table.

Landon took more time eating his lunch, watching his girlfriend chat with her siblings. He wondered, if she really had been cheating on him, how long it had been going on. How long had he not realized that she was doing such things behind his back? Taking the last bite of his sandwich, he stood up and tossed the plate into the trash. He would spend the rest of the day in his cabin, preparing himself for whatever was to come later that night. Callie was already in the room looking down at her magazine once more. “Do you ever put that thing down?” Landon questioned as he lied down on his bed. Callie didn’t seem to be listening to her brother make fun of her. Landon picked up the book that he had been reading. Even though, Landon was like most demigods and was dyslexic, he took pleasure in reading books from time to time. He always had one sitting next to his bed, even if it took him some time to get through them. This time he was reading, “King Lear” by Shakespeare. He had an odd interest in Shakespeare’s work. Callie had thought that he was a freak for being interested in books of the sort. He was almost finished with the book though, and was planning on reading “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley once he was done. He spent longer than he had planned reading his book; Callie had even gotten up and wandered off at one point. It wasn’t until he heard the call that dinner was ready, that he got up and headed out the door. Dinner was just as lunch had been. Just as every meal for the Tyche cabin had been and always would be. When he finished, Landon made his way back to the cabin once more, this time not knowing what to do until he was supposed to sneak out and join the others.

                                              LET ME REST MY EYES

Landon hadn’t even realized that he had begun to fall asleep, not until he woke up looking around the cabin. It was dark outside and Callie was already asleep in her bed. Moving off his bed, Landon looked for his watch that was sitting on his nights stand. It was almost midnight, and Landon knew that he was supposed to be out soon to join the group going outside of the border. He had wanted to get there before anyone else, since he wanted to catch Stephanie in the act, if she really was cheating on him. Landon slipped on his tennis shoes, and grabbed a coin off his nightstand before walking outside of the cabin and making his way to the border where they guys met. Callie had told him that she had ventured down there once or twice to watch them, and she told him where they went out, so he didn’t need much help knowing where to go. As he had hoped, he had made it there before anyone else had. He was glad that had fallen asleep, that way he wasn’t able to think about backing down from the challenge. The first people, after Landon, to make their way down to the border were Alex and Stephanie. Landon stepped out of their line of view, next to a tree that hid him out of sight. “I know you can show them that they’re wrong about you. Theo thinks he’s strong, but he’s all talk.” Landon could hear his girlfriend tell the son of Poseidon. “I bet I’ll do even better if I get a kiss for good luck.” When Landon heard this, he stepped out from behind the tree. Both Stephanie and Alex seemed to be surprised to see him there. “A kiss isn’t going to give you luck. But I can, Δίνω τύχη σου.” Landon stated, spitting out some Greek towards the male. Landon couldn’t control if the luck would be good or bad, but his emotions at the time he gave luck usually swayed the luck to one side or the other. Alex looked terrified for a minute before Stephanie stood up for the son of the water god. “Landon, don’t put Alex in the middle of this. You knew that our relationship was beginning to fade. We have been drifting apart for a while now, and I missed having someone here for me during the year. You have to understand, please Landon.” Stephanie’s eyes widened and began to tear up as she looked to the son of Tyche. She always knew how to get him to forgive her. “Not this time Stephanie. We’re done.” He declared. He would have gone on, but the rest of the group began to appear and join them.

He then turned his attention to the fact that he was doing one of the stupidest things he had ever done in his life. Not that he thought that it was completely a stupid idea for all people, but Landon wasn’t used to fighting. He had never been a quest throughout the four years that he had been at camp. Being the son of a minor goddess didn’t get him many places, but he didn’t mind staying inside of camp working on his fighting skills. He had just as much practice inside of camp as the next camper, but there was a difference between practice on dummies and real life experience. Everyone else had drawn their weapons, there were a couple of remarks back and forth between Theo and Alex, but when they decided to leave the borders, Landon stepped up with the rest of them. He produced a coin out of his pocket, the same coin that he had taken from his nightstand. Flipping the coin in the air, once it hit his hand it turned into a spear. It had been a gift from his mother, it was all luck and chance to which weapon he ended up with. If it landed on heads he got a sword but tails he was given a spear. Luckily, he was trained with both. He stepped with the other four demigods across the border. Almost as soon as they walked out they were surrounded by six drakons. Landon hadn’t spent too much time studying the monster, but he knew that it spat poison at its enemies. The son of Tyche took a step back from the monster. He could hear the other demigods making a move towards the monster, and snapped into action. Using his spear, he was able to shove the head of the drakon towards the ground and then stab the monster in its neck. It took him a couple of stabs, but eventually he was able to turn the monster into dust. He felt a boost in his confidence as he watched the monster disappear. A smile appeared across his lips but before he was able to rejoice too much he heard a scream from behind him.

Alex was lying on the ground grabbing at his stomach, when the others reached him. Shane instantly went to help his friend off the ground, it was clear that the drakon had not only spat on him, but had bit him as well. Landon almost felt bad, considering he had been the one to give him luck before they left the borders. Thadeus glanced around the area that they had come out of the borders. “That’s it? Doesn’t seem like there was much out tonight,” he glanced over to Landon. “Maybe you’re a bit too lucky.” He smirked before they headed back into the borders. Stephanie jumped into action, making her way to where Shane was bringing Alex across the border. Seeing his ex-girlfriend help, someone else out made him scowl. The group of girls and Shane, Riana from the Aphrodite cabin had joined when Landon wasn’t looking, gathered around Alex and carried him towards the infirmary. Thadeus and Theo turned and walked away pretty quickly, leaving Landon standing there staring at the border line. He wasn’t certain why he was doing so, but he stood there staring, as his weapon turned back into a coin. When he felt a hand touch his shoulder, he jumped and almost flipped the coin in his hand, but realized that it was just his sister in time to not panic. “What are you doing down here?” She questioned. “You weren’t sneaking out of camp were you?” Landon laughed at his sister. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I just wanted to go out on a walk. I couldn’t get to bed.” He stated as he wrapped his arm around Callie’s shoulder and began to walk with her back to their cabin. They made small talk as they walked. They had always been able to get along well since they had met each other. Landon had always wanted a sibling to give him some company, but his father wasn’t interested in taking on another child.

They were about to reach their cabin when they heard something coming from the entrance of the camp. Landon glanced at his sister before telling her, “Go get some of the younger campers and then take them into New Athens. Wake up the older ones and tell them to get outside.” His sister seemed to know what he was thinking the sound was coming from. “Landon, I want to stay back.” He wasn’t used to his sister asking him for things or whining about anything. “It’s not safe right now. You need to go make sure that all of the younger kids get safely to New Athens and then you need to stay there, do you hear me?” Callie stood there for another second before nodding her head and turning towards the closest cabin. Landon watched her knock on the door and heard someone opening the door, before he turned towards the sounds that was coming from the entrance of camp. He flipped the coin in his hand, glad that this time it turned into a sword. Before he made it to the bottom of Half Blood Hill, he saw what the camp was dealing with. A monster spread its wings and stood on its hind legs before shooting towards the sky, fire pouring from its mouth as it headed towards the ground. Landon stopped short as he watched it fly over the cabins that he had just come from. He could see arrows shooting towards the sky at the dragon, but it didn’t seem to be affected by the weapon. Landon hadn’t realized, but his hands were shaking with fear of the monster. He took a deep breath and ran to follow the monsters steps.

Adele continued to decorate the booth with Leni until a voice sounded from behind them telling Leni she was needed at her booth. Alden was trying to sound even toned but there was no fooling Adele’s ears she could tell something was wrong, if she had to guess she would say Odette was the source. Her half sister hated Leni and thought she should be the head of Aphrodite cabin, something she thought Ri had a hand in. If Odette knew that Leni had left the booth unmanned it only made sense that she would try to seize power. Adele nodded ”Ok girl see you later and uh good luck.” she teased tapping the name Tyche and grinning. Watching her friend leave she turned her attention to the boys who were talking about the nightly excursions behind the boarder and rolled her eyes. Ri went to them all the time either to support Shane or to rub whatever new flavor she was trying out when they were broken up; they were so stupid. Male demigods crossed over the protective boarder of the camp to hunt monsters and whoever killed the most won. It was dangerous, childish, and even sort of rigged. Theo had the blood of two Big Three Gods in him so the majority of the monsters were drawn to him giving him a clear advantage. Putting her head phones in she let her music play as she finished the sign and a few more decorations for Landon and Callie’s booth before she told the guys she was going to go put some finishing touches on her own booth and headed off.

Her grandfather, Apollo, was a busy god when it came to getting busy and there was a whole gang of Apollo kids to work on the booth which was nice. A lot of the cabin had just arrived late last night or this morning unless they lived there but they all seemed glad to see Adele as she made her way over to the booths for her cabin. She greeted them stopping to ask how their summers were so far and if they were happy to be back as she looked for her little brother. After a few minutes of small talk she spotted Aiden being hugged by a leggy blonde ”Ahh baby brother it looks great you did an awesome job.” she exclaimed and Adele rolled her eyes behind her sunglasses. Julie, her half sister, was the head of Apollo in the off season and seemed to think she could do it full time. ”Thanks Julie… oh Adele hey.” Aiden said quickly clearly uncomfortable in Julie’s arms. ”Hey Aiden, Julie what’s going on?” she asked. Julie stopped hugging Aiden but had her arm around his shoulder and mussed his golden locks ”I was just telling our baby brother what a good job he did. I would say I’m surprised that you didn’t take a more proactive leader role, but like come on we all know we don’t lie well.” the other girl said with a smile. Adele made a face, she wished she would stop calling Aiden baby brother, they were half siblings and he wasn’t a baby. ”Well Aiden and I talked extensively about what I wanted to do so I totally trusted him to make that happen while I was helping others. Besides at fifteen Aiden is a lot more capable of a leader than you will ever be, not that you will ever lead this cabin or anything.” Adele said with a smile on her face pushing her glasses up to stare Julie down. Anger crossed Julie’s face and she shoved Aiden away from her ”Challenge. I am totally calling you out Adelaide Pascal.” she spat angrily. Moving to steady Aiden so he wouldn’t fall she gave him a smile ”You ok Aiden?” she asked. Nodding his blonde head ”I’m fine Addy.” he replied.

”Ahh Adele what are you doing?” Conrad asked as she was checking the string on her bow. He looked a little panicked like she was messing with his perfect schedule and she probably was. A lot of demigods were watching in a semicircle instead of working on the booths their own or helping others. Adele shrugged looking at the girl standing a few feet away from her ”I’m accepting a challenge as is my duty as head of Apollo cabin.” she told him with a nod. ”I see that but do you really think here and now is appropriate? I mean you got in so late last night…” he asked a worried look on his face. That was cute, he was concerned that she might lose. Shaking her head Adele put a reassuring smile on her face ”Don’t worry Conrad I like totally have this in the bag, and I’ll make it quick so everyone can get back to work.”

                                              i mean like totally

Standing in line for some food Adele was all smiles; she had easily defeated Julie in the archery skill test and retained her position as head of the cabin. Her half sister was furious and stormed back to the cabin to hide while everyone else went to lunch. Most people were used to Adele’s regime at camp and had supported her rather than Julie who had a few supporters from the year round campers so the mood at Apollo table was high after they sat down with their food. Half way done with her turkey, avocado, and bean sprout sandwich from the Notus cabin moved to sit beside her splitting her and Aiden up ”Congrats Adele, that last shot was truly, truely beautiful.” the son of the summer god told her. Adele smiled, she liked Sam he was pretty laid back and they shared the common interest of surfing ”Thanks Sam but I was sort of showing off at that point.” she admitted. He shrugged and picked a few ships off of her plate and popped them in his mouth casually ”Doesn’t make it any less impressive, I’d show off if I was you too.” he told her with a smile. Rolling her eyes and shaking her head Adele wore a grin ”What-ever” she said with a laugh in her voice. ”Echmm…” the pair turned to see Cole who had cleared his voice ”Hey Adele I was wondering if we could talk?” he asked. ”Uh sure Cole one sec.” she told him holding up a finger. Sam looked somewhat annoyed but he stood ”Catch you later Adele.” he said before leaving so Cole could fill his spot. ”What’s up Cole? How is your summer been so far?” she asked looking at the tan medicine man. ”Better now that you’re back at camp…” he told her with a small smile. Cole had a serious crush on her which was cute and all but he was just so uptight all the time. ”You’re just far better in the infirmary than Julie is.” he added after a beat of silence. Adele knew that wasn’t true, she was a good healer but Julie was the best in camp though she knew that soon enough Aiden would outstrip her. ”Well she is a way better healer than I am..” Adele said unsure of how to respond to him ”You are far more organized and the combination of you and Aiden together more than make up what she has in skill not to mention you are just more pleasant to be around.” he told her with a nod. ”Well thanks Cole.” she said looking away feeling a bit uncomfortable in his direct gaze. Cole cleared his throat again ”Which is why I am asking you, I was taking stock and it seems we are short some supplies that we shouldn’t be. I was hoping if you had time you could come to the infirmary and help me sort everything out.” he explained. Adele made a face, short supplies, that was strange even with Julie’s shotty record keeping. ”Sure thing Cole, let me finish my lunch and I’ll meet you over there.” she told him hoping he would take the hint and leave.

                                              work and more work

Adele spent the rest of the day working with Cole taking stock of the supplies in the infirmary and avoiding his intense eyes and blatant praise. They came to the conclusion that while it wasn’t much missing there was a discrepancy in the records and supplies. It was strange almost like someone had taken a few things to heal a person or two but that didn’t make sense anyone could report to the infirmary and be seen. Amending their records to reflect the accurate count Adele and Cole parted ways to go have dinner, Cole to the mess hall and Adele to the West house. Everyone else was there by the time Adele showed up and she felt a little guilty about holding the meal up ”Sorry I had some business to take care of.” she told Colter as she piled bacon, chicken, tomatoes, and avocados on her personal pizza ”No I understand, work is work Adele just glad you made it.” her godfather told her. They had been seated for a few minutes before Riana jumped on Leni’s case defending Odette ”Lenina, I don’t understand why you couldn’t have just allowed Odette to run your booth. It’s not like you were around when they started the idea. I think that you weren’t being a good leader by stepping in and causing a problem with her.” Conrad jumped to his sister’s defense and Adele felt obligated to say something to her twin as well ”Ri it’s not your cabin and it doesn’t matter how you think it is being led.” she added. The daughter of Aphrodite stood up making a scene accusing Leni of never standing up for herself before storming from the room. Awkward.

The rest of the dinner was spent acting if nothing had happened and ended with strawberry ice cream before Conrad announced it was getting late and everyone started to go their own way. The adults were going down into the den to have a night cap while Leni went off to study and Aiden went to Conrad’s old room to work on a song he was writing. Adele waited for the coast to be clear before she left through the front door after Conrad. ”Conrad wait!” she called to him. Turning the son of Hermes seemed a little nervous ”What’s up Adele it is getting pretty late.” he told her. She knew that he was nervous about the carnival and there was always that unspoken tension of desire between them ”I just wanted to say that the carnival is a great idea and it looks like it is going to be perfect.” she said trying to calm his nervous but they were still there. Looking around she didn’t see anyone and rose up onto the tip toes of her orange shoes and pressed her mouth to his before falling back to the flats of her feet her eyes reopening. Conrad sighed deeply and put space between them shaking his head ”Adele…” he started but she brought her fingers to his mouth and shook her head ”I’m totally tired of pretending and I know we can’t be together now but next summer I’ll be eighteen and it like won’t matter.” she said shaking her head and moving to plant another kiss on his mouth before she turned and ran back to the house pausing on the porch ”See you in the morning.” she said before disappearing back inside.

”No, they know about last night-“ Adele stirred at the sound of Aiden’s voice at the door. Pushing the blankets off she looked to the door that was partially cracked. Riana and Aiden were fighting in the hallway in loud whispers ”What’s going on out here it is the middle of the night?” Adele asked. ”Perfect now you woke Adele –“ her twin paused as the night sky outside the window lit up. A monster roared seconds later and adel’s head snapped to her sister ”What did you do Ri?” she asked as the house started to stir lights flashing on. ”I didn’t do anything!” she shot back as their parents entered the hall. Adele turned and flipped the light on grabbing her shoes not bothering with socks before tying them. With no time to waste she grtabbed her necklace and pulled it over her head and putt her barette in her mouth and turned back for the door not bothering to put on pants over her yoga shorts. As she tied her long blonde locks behind her head the bareete in her mouth as she worked her mother asked ”Adele where do you think you are going?” The response came muffled by the clip as she secured her hair with a black band form around her wrist ”Protecting this camp.” she said before slidding the clip into her hair. Her mother looked worried but her father gave a nod of his head ”Well come on then Aiden wait here with your mother, you too Ri.” he told her twin. Riana made a face ”I’m not going out there.” she said, Adele snorted and shook head head as she headed for the stiars ”How typical.” she muttered.

Leaving the house Adele saw the outline of a winged dragon breathing fire in demigod airspace, where it shouldn’t be. ”Adele go get your archers and distract that thing. Tristan with me.” the son of Athena commanded. Adele nodded and started off jogging at a quick and steady pace she could sustain in the direction of her cabin. She knew that most of the archers would be readying for battle and hopefully they would meet her somewhere in between. She had no idea what Colter was planing but she trusted her godfather enough to not question his field commands. There was a small handfull of both apollo and Eros archers including Ace the head of the cabin ”Is that what I think it is?” he asked retorically ”We are going to try to distract this things and draw it’s fire. Someone needs to stay here and tell the others the plan the rest of you with me.” Adele told them turning her back and transforming her weapons. While she fit an arrow into her bow the others quockly ellected an Eros archer to stay behind and Adele started to jog keeping her arrow pointed at the ground. Moving towards the strawberry field Adele kept her eye on the beast before she paused and let lose a string of arrows. They bounced off harmlessly as expected but they did cause the beast to wheel towards them fire billowig out of its great maw ”Here it comes!” she shouted knocking another arrow.

Theo was a bit surprised when the son of Tyche asked if they were going out again if he could join them. Landon Reed wasn’t a notably bad warrior but he wasn’t notably good either. Camp Half Blood had some serious talent running around: obviously himself and Thad where the top dogs and as much as he hated to admit it Alex wasn’t too shabby himself with Shane taking honorable mention. Thad shared his sentiments ”Sure, as long as you know it’s dangerous. I mean, you never know what monsters are going to appear once you step outside the boarder.”. Landon assured them that he knew what he was getting himself into and the two demigods let it drop. If he wanted to try and make a name for himself in the midnight arena who were they to try and stop him? Soon enough the booth was built and the head of Apollo’s cabin started to instruct them where to hang the decorations that she had made that she couldn’t manage like the sign. He liked her she was laid back sort of like a beach bum but when it came to archery she had unparalleled focus that was impressive. When she left Thad was grinning at him ”At least she is legal.” he teased shaking his head. ”Whatever man. Anyway Landon I guess we will see you later.” he said before they parted.

It was getting close to lunch time and Theo wondered if he should just hang out or try to find Conrad to get in one more task before the break when he heard rumors that someone had challenged a cabin leader. ”I wonder who it is?” his friend asked. He also wondered, there were a couple cabins that had some malcontents especially the larger ones like Ares and Apollo. Following the slight draw of the crowd Theo lead the way to where Adele was stringing her bow, Julie the interim cabin head, was doing the same. Adele was the best shooter at camp; Ace, the head of Eros, hated her for it. The challenge was going to be shooting targets from so many paces and the first to miss would lose. Adele nailed each of the small bean bags at each distance right though the center easily while Julie struggled the further out they got, just barely managing the nic the last one that they had to move on to moving targets. Thad volunteered to throw the bean bags and threw them high up into the air, a few seconds later Adele fired hitting her target, Julie fired directly after but missed her far and to the left. Adele fired once more hitting Julie’s target, then sent a rapid fire and another. She ended up nailing both bags twice which was made clear when she trotted out to retrieve her arrows from the bag. Turning several shades of red Julie stormed off seeing the bags after letting out a curse and throwing her bow to the ground. Snickers and chuckles ran through them until they were silenced by Conrad dismissing them for lunch that was waiting for them in mess.

In line Theo made two plates, one with two roast beef and cheddar sandwiches, baked beans, potatoes and pasta salad. On the other he made two more sandwiches and filled it up with chips. When he got to the fire he honored Zeus first but then gave a sandwich to Hades as well nothing wanting to slight his other Big Three grandparent. Taking the rest back to his table he started to eat munching on chips, the buzz familiar and comforting in the mess hall. It was fun to watch the mess hall during meals, all the going ons of the other tables beside his own; he felt like he was their king the way Zeus was the king of the gods. For instance there was Shane, he had been hurt last night but today he was unscathed as if he had sought healing out but Shane knew that was forbidden and wouldn’t have gone to the infirm. It was curious just like Stephanie holding hands with Landon in line was curious. Stephanie and Alex had been spending a lot of time together, enough that Theo had assumed they were together. Unsurprisingly Riana, Mimi, and Odette were together chatting, probably cattily, about Luce who was giving him a thousand yard stare that said yum. He gave her a wink before he started on his second sandwich.

                                                boring!

Thad and Theo hung out tossing a football back and forth on the shores of the Sound chatting up the various demigods that passed until it was time for dinner sending them back to their neighborhood splitting up at Theo’s house. Inside the rich smell of stew filled the house despite being summer, it was one of his mother’s goto meals. The only surprise that stew ever held was which protein in would include. Sometimes it would be something mundane like chicken or beef but more often than not it was game meat that his mother had brought home; venison or rabbit. Tonight it seemed to have thick cubes of lean and rich venison swirling around in the thick broth with potatoes and carrots while nibs of corn and pea pods popped up like little geysers. After the fight they had that morning it was little wonder that the meat was something that had been hunted. The smell of baking bread mixed in with the rich stew and all and all it was going to be a good meal with lemonade to cut the richness and thickness of the stew. Going upstairs and reapplying a layer of deodorant and washing his hands before returning downstairs his mother doling out portions of the meal into bowls while his father sat the table with silverware, a butter dish, and serving the fresh lemonade. Dinner was light talking about the carnival the fight this morning forgotten by the day’s hunting.

After dinner Theo hung out with Thad in front of the Lupin’s house sparring for a group of on lookers including Sun and some of her friends. When they tired they stopped to care for their weapons as the sun started to set and the group started to dissipate. Returning home for a stint Theo readied himself to sneak out and meet up with Thad the way he had done hundreds of times. Arriving at the meeting point there was a tense air between Landon and Alex ”Trying to psyc the rookie? Pathetic even for you fish face.” Theo grinned stepping up to the line. ”Please I don’t need luck to out fight you.” he traded back. Drawing his sword Theo bounced on the balls of his feet battle lust starting to creep around the edge of his senses, once everyone was ready they signaled for everyone to cross. More quickly than ever before the monsters appeared, too quickly, something was right. Six drakons ringed them around forcing them to fight together in one little group. The newcomer charged spear pointed at one’s head after a pause; at least he was making a go of it Theo thought launching himself towards one of the drakons. Jumping up Theo pointed his sword and brought it down into the satisfying feeling of breaking skull giving away to dust as he turned to a second beast. From the corner of his eye he saw Shane managing to disembowel his own beast quickly but the monster Alex was fighting got in a rare opening in the son of Poseidon’s defense. It was enough to shock him into stopping resulting of him to be knocked to his feet. Paying attention to his own fight he rolled and when the beast came at him again Theo inserted his sword into its underbelly cutting along its body. He rose in time to see Thad slay the dragon that had injured Alex while Shane quickly to see how badly Alex was injured.

Thad commented how lucky Landon was that there wasn’t that many monsters but he knew his friend was worried. Neither of them knew how Shane had been healed or how they were going to get Alex healed but it was a pretty serious acid burn that would take major skill to heal. That was sure to get around and they were going to have to cool it on going out of a while, the first few weeks at least. It was strange if he was counting on anyone to ruin things for them tonight it sure in Hades hadn’t been Alex. Heading back to the housing area quickly and quietly they were almost to their block with a shriek sounded. ”Did you hear that?” Thad asked ”Yeah, it sounded like it was coming from the camp.” he replied nodding his head. Taking off the pair jogged towards the camp when they saw something flying through the air only to be lit up seconds later to be a full blown fire breathing dragon; typically that would have sounded thrilling but not in the middle of camp. The next flames the monster spat out were directed at the archers that had just fired at it doing nothing more than pissing the beast off. It wasn’t much but at least the monster wasn’t rampaging around camp or New Athens just the out skirts. Keeping the monster occupied Theo tried to think of plan to slay this beast; so far the winner was taking to the air and blasting it with lighting which would be relatively easy considering the bulk of the dragon would attract bolts easily. ”Get the archers clear I am going to light that thing up like a Christmas tree.” Theo told Thad jumping up catching himself in an air current riding it towards the dragon. Something sliced through the air cutting the current dropping Theo several feet, he had never experienced anything like that. Looking towards the monster he saw a single glowing bolt sticking between scales where the dragon’s heart was located. A kill shot, as the dusted started to fall a glowing sphere started to fall to the ground about the size of a large melon. Swooping in Theo caught the object and immediately noticed that it was warm, almost hot to the touch.

i would kill for a red bull

It had taken about two hours but finally the camp and city were settled and the cabin leaders and city council members were gathered; Tristan Pascal who had slain the beast was present as well and Theo presented the dragon stone to the man before taking his seat. There was a swirl of conversation all wondering how the monster had gotten across the boundary. One of the first things that had been done was to ensure that the Golden Fleece still hung on Thalia’s Pine which it was. Someone suggested that maybe they had been let in, it wouldn’t be the first time that something was let into the camp names like Luke, RaeLynn, and Niko were thrown around and Theo vaguely remembered them as traitors of some sort. ”What if they didn’t mean to, like an accident or mistake?” the head of Nemesis suggested and Theo noticed Shane and Alex, who was healed but not completely looked down slightly. ”Oh no, Theo what did you do?” his mother asked in a stern voice and the head of Zeus cabin got a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach knowing that was about to happen wasn’t going to be pleasant.

It didn’t take long for other campers to notice what was going on in the camp. Landon’s hands continued to shake before noticing that there were arrows being shot towards the monster. The dragon’s attention moved towards the children of Apollo who were trying to get its attention. Running towards the beast, Landon became aware of the campers around him. Most of them were in a panic, some of them running around not knowing how to react to a monster inside of the borders of Camp Half Blood. A son of Athena, Alden, was leading some younger campers toward New Athens, assuming that there would be some place to keep them over the night. He had turned his attention away from the monster for what felt like a minute, but before he knew it, he glanced up to see dust pouring through the air. Conrad and Lenina’s father walked up to the group of younger campers. “Come on little ones, we’re going to spend the night in New Athens, for extra protection to make sure that no monsters get into the borders again.” The younger campers, mostly nine and down, nodded to him and followed him towards the border of the city. “All older campers are to meet in the Mess Hall for a meeting.” Colter called before disappearing with the younger campers. Landon nodded and joined the group of campers that were heading towards the Mess Hall, some of them whispering about what had happened and why there was a monster inside of the borders. Taking a seat in the Mess Hall, no one seemed to care about which gods’ table they were sitting down on. Callie grabbed her brother’s hand and pulled them to their mother’s table. There were some adults from New Athens sitting with them. Adele and Riana’s father stood and Theodore handed over the dragon stone to him. For a moment, things seemed to be looking up, since the monster had been killed, but shortly all of the adults gathered in a circle and began to talk about what had happened. Only then, did Callie turn to her brother and talk to him.

You shouldn’t have gone out there tonight. To think of all nights that you pick to go run off with those boys, a dragon gets into the camp. You know the fingers are going to be pointed at you.” His younger sister had always been the more reasonable sibling. Landon didn’t respond to his sister, but instead tried to listen in on what the adults were saying. There were whispers and names thrown around between all of them. Some of the campers were pointing to Theodore, Thadeus, Alex, and Shane. They were usually the ones going through the borders and fighting monsters. The only people that knew Landon had even thought about going out were those four, Callie, and Stephanie, as far as Landon knew. The campers all paid attention as Thedore’s mother began to question him about what he had done that night. Although, Landon was more concerned with saving his own skin, he was sure that they hadn’t let in a dragon with them. The five of them didn’t create enough of a whole in the border to let that kind of a beast into the camp. He considered standing up for the other demigod, but he decided to keep his mouth shut. The adults pulled together as a group once more to discuss the problems further. When they finally finished talking, Colter stood up in front of the group. “We have come to the conclusion that the sneaking out through the border has weakened our borders to camp, which allowed the dragon to get inside of our borders. Now, I’m sure that all of you know why this is a problem. We have built our camp and city to create a safe living environment for demigods. We must move to keep Camp Half Blood and New Athens safe. Therefore, we are now making it against the rules to leave the camp borders at any time. The only way that you are able to enter and exit is through Half Blood Hill, and those who have done this must be punished. Now, can I have all of the demigods that went through the borders tonight stand?” It was clear they wanted everyone to know who allowed the dragon inside of the borders. They wanted everyone to know who had caused such a mess inside of camp and put people’s lives at risk.

At first, Landon hesitated to stand, but feeling a jab from Callie’s elbow, Landon stood along with the other four males that were standing. Some glanced and pointed, there were more whispers around the hall. Colter silenced everyone once more, “Because of the amount of risk you put your fellow campers at tonight, you will be put on clean up duty for the next two weeks and banned from the first capture the flag of the year. Tomorrow, you will ensure that all is set for the carnival, and tomorrow night you will not be allowed to rest until the entire camp is cleaned. You will be in charge of making sure all of the booths are torn down and everything is ready for camp to begin.” Landon stared at the ground the entire time that Colter talked. While he was fighting the drakons outside of the border, he almost felt proud of himself, but now standing in front of all of his peers and their parents, he felt embarrassed and foolish for going outside of the borders. “Since this is your first offense, we have decided that these will be your punishments. However, if we find out that you have broken the rules again, you will be given a worse punishment, and will be considered for being banned from Camp Half Blood and New Athens. Now, I hope that everyone can have a more peaceful night, and a great carnival tomorrow.” With that Colter stepped down from where he was speaking, making his way to someone, whom Landon assumed was his wife. With the dismissal, everyone was expected to make their way to their cabins and rest until the morning, but campers didn’t have the same idea in mind. Everyone wanted whisper about how this had happened, and if they thought, the punishment was suitable or not.

Landon thought about talking to the other males that he went out with that night, but before he could walk towards them, Callie was dragging him through the camp. “Callie, calm down. Everyone is fine now, there’s no reason to be angry at me.” Landon tried to settle Callie down, but it didn’t seem to be working. She didn’t say a word to the male while they wanted back to the cabin, but as soon as they entered the small building, Callie turned to her brother. “What were you thinking? You could have died! There is a reason that the only people who go outside of the borders are children of the Big Three, Ares, or Hercules. Can’t you just leave stupid play to them? I realize that sitting around our cabin isn’t fun, but I never thought you to be as stupid as you have proven to me today.” Callie rambled on for another minute before making her way to her bed and lying down. She didn’t say another word to the male, and turned away from him, so that he knew their conversation was over. The son of Tyche sat down on his own bed, staring at the wall. Hearing his sister, he knew that she was right, that he was being an idiot when he decided to walk over the borders, but he also believed that he had just as much right as any other male in the camp. So, what if he wasn’t the son of the Big Three, Ares, or Hercules? Did that mean he was any better or worse than they were? Pulling off his shoes, he tossed them at the door and laid down on his back. Staring up at the ceiling, Landon thought about what Callie had been implying. Was he that weak compared to the other males in the camp, just because he wasn’t the strongest and couldn’t control water or lightning? He would lose in any challenge at camp against any of the other four. The only thing that he could hold onto was that he hadn’t needed saving that night, like Alex had. Alex was another thing that he had to watch. It was clear that they would not be on the same side ever again. Even if Alex ever forgave him for giving him bad luck and attempting to attack him, Landon would never forgive him for stealing Stephanie, not that he wanted anything to do with her anymore. When his body was finally able to rest, Landon realized how tired he had become, and allowed his eyes to shut, forgetting about his punishment and his problems.

                                              JUST ANOTHER FIVE MINUTES

Landon woke up to a pillow being thrown in his face. “Wake up, Conrad is making rounds. Asking all campers to get up and check on their booths. The dragon caused a mess before Tristan killed it.” Callie stated before walking out of the cabin. She still seemed to be avoiding him. The carnival was to be opened around noon, right after lunch. Glancing at the time, Landon saw that they only had two hours to fix anything that had problems, and he had to check on his own booth and others. Pulling himself out of bed, Landon jumped into a speed shower before following his sister out the door. He was wearing a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt along with his tennis shoes. Campers were running around trying to prepare for the carnival. Landon went directly to his own booth before he was found and asked to fulfill his punishment. Callie was standing in front of a pure mess. Where their booth had stood the day before was a smashed piece of mess. “You’re kidding me. We worked hard on this.” Landon stated as he reached his sister’s side. “What was it?” Callie questioned before others made their way to their booth, or what was left. “A dice game,” Landon told to his sister. She turned to him with a confused look on her face before turning back to the wood on the ground. “Maybe it’s a good thing that it was broken. I’ll fix this, you go do what you’re supposed to for your punishment.” Callie shoved her brother away from their booth.

He didn’t even think about challenging his sister. Walking up to Colter, who was standing with his son. “Good morning,” Landon said awkwardly before the Wests noticed his presence. Colter glanced to his son to tell Landon what to do now. “Morning, if your booth needs work then I suggest that you start there. If your booth is fine, then you need to go around and help whoever needs help.” Landon nodded to the son of Hermes. Since his sister had kicked him out of his own booth, Landon walked around to see who might need help with their cabin. Walking around camp, there were glares from campers, points from other, some walked up to him and asked him what had happened the night before, outside of the borders. Landon wished he could completely forget about the night before, but it seemed as though he wouldn’t get away from his actions. “I’m surprised you had the guts to do it.” Helena, the head of the Khione cabin stated to him when he passed by her booth. Even though she was a daughter of the snow goddess it was clear she also had some fighter in her. “Yeah, I think I’m now regretting that I got the nerve up to do it.” He stated to her, helping her hammer some nails into the wood of her booth. “Well you know they say, with greatness comes great responsibility.” She stated to the male. Laughing, Landon picked up some wood on the ground. “I don’t think that leaving the border once means greatness. I’m going to be remembered as one of the people who brought in the dragon. Not someone strong and brave that took down monsters everywhere I went.” Landon tossed the broken pieces of wood into a bucket, they would use the wood for the bonfires they had during camp.

                                              LET THE GAMES BEGIN

Landon’s lunch was quick, sitting next to a sister who wouldn’t speak to him, allowed him to focus on eating. When they got up from their table, both siblings went to their booth. He had to give his sister credit, she thought of a booth idea better than any he could think of off the top of his head. They were now a black jack booth with a table and chairs set up for them. “You get the first shift of work.” Since there were only two of them, they would have to pass the duty of playing the game back and forth. Sitting down at the table, Landon waited as campers came around, hoping to win enough chips to get a prize from their booth. There weren’t a ton of campers coming around, but when they did, they sat around and played for a decent amount of time, until they were sure their luck had run out. Some thought that Landon was using his power to beat them, but half way through his shift, Landon began to lose most of the games. He was beginning to get sick of the game and losing to all of the other campers. When dinnertime rolled around, Landon was glad to get up and go to the Mess Hall. The line was long, and it took even longer because of the offering fire. Landon tossed in half of his fruit salad and prayed to his mother, “Dear mother, please give us a little good luck around here.” He then walked to his seat, waiting for his sister to take a seat as well. She still wasn’t interested in talking, but he wanted her company when the entire rest of the Mess Hall was filled. This time, people were more concerned with where they sat inside of the hall. There were only a few people, that weren’t siblings, sitting together. That table consisted of the West’s and Pascal’s parents. Most families were separated, but Conrad had asked his family and god family to sit with him at one table. Once everyone had gone through the line, Conrad stood in front of the crowd in the hall. Tapping the side of his glass with his knife, everyone turned in his direction. Landon had never seen someone make a toast at camp, but this was his first time being there for the welcoming party.

                                              OUTFIT

Lenina wasn’t certain how long she had been asleep, but she sat bolt up as she heard her parents moving around the basement. “What’s going on?” She questioned, standing without thinking. Her father passed her and headed up the stairs. Her mother followed shortly behind him, but it took her a minute to get up all of the stairs. Lenina wanted to be informed with what was going on in the camp, but neither of her parents seemed to want to tell her what was happening. Making it to the first floor, Tristan and Adele were walking towards the door, her father following after. He stopped short of the door and turned around, “Remi, stay here, you too Lenina.” The daughter of Athena opened her mouth to protest, but turned her eyes away as she watched her father press a kiss against her mother’s lips. She had always hated how openly affectionate they were with each other. Although, her hate of public affection was only towards her parents, she didn’t particularly mind when other people showed love around her. With that, her father exited the house and was gone. Lenina could see in the distance that there was a monster inside of the borders. Fire was enveloping the camp. Opening the front door, Lenina felt her mother’s hand on her shoulder. “Where do you think you’re going?” Spencer and Aiden had joined the two in the living room. Though they didn’t step in front of Remi’s parenting choices. “I’m just going to make sure everyone in safe.” Lenina argued with her mother. However, the thought of fighting a monster as great as a dragon had her adrenaline pumping. “Your father told you to stay inside, which means you will stay inside.” Remi dragged her daughter towards the kitchen, and sat her down. “You can watch from inside, I’ll make some tea for your father and Tristan when they get back.” Lenina knew as well as her mother did that there would be some sort of meeting as soon as the monster was killed. “Adele was allowed to go out there. I don’t see why I can’t. I’m head of my cabin; I need to check on my siblings.” Lenina fought with her mother as Aiden sat down beside her and watched their mothers making tea. Remi turned away from the girl as though she was trying to act like she didn’t exist. Sick of the treatment, Lenina stood up and headed for the front door, once more. She was about five feet from the door when her mother appeared in front of her. “Lenina, I will not tell you again, you will go into the kitchen and sit down next to Aiden, and you will not move until I tell you to you are allowed to move. Do you hear me?” Her mother was clearly angry now, but Lenina didn’t move from where she was standing. It took her mother a minute to realize that she wasn’t going to do what she was told, Remi reached forward and rested her hand on Lenina. Before she could move, her mother teleported them right back into the kitchen.

Lenina had never been teleported before; her parents both avoided using their powers around their children, at least, until Conrad showed signs of being able to read people’s minds. The instant her feet were back on the floor, Lenina fell to the ground. Her stomach began to churn and she felt sick. Her mother waddled to the table, mumbling about how teleporting tired her out so much nowadays with the mixture of being pregnant and getting older. When Lenina felt as though she could stand up without bringing back her dinner on the floor, she stood and walked to the dining room table. Sitting down, there was a mug of tea waiting for her when she got there. “Where’s Riana?” Remi questioned Spencer as they sat quietly and drank their tea. Lenina and Aiden both spent their time staring out the window, watching as the dragon flew around camp. “Upstairs, she doesn’t have the drive for fighting like most demigods do.” Spencer explained to the other mother. Their conversation went off on random tangents about how they had been, both mothers seeming to try to avoid taking about the monster outside. Faster than the eye could see, something shot through the sky, Lenina could only see a blur, but as the dust fell she knew that it had killed the monster. The daughter of Athena stood and walked towards the door. It seemed that Aiden had been either concerned for his father and sister or interested in knowing what had happened. He followed right behind Lenina, out the door and towards the camp. This time Remi didn’t attempt her daughter in the house, and instead, followed her to camp and towards the Mess Hall. They ran into Colter on the way to camp, “Spencer, do you think that you could take these campers to Li’s daycare? I want to keep them in New Athens for the night, just to be sure that nothing else makes its way into the camp.” Spencer nodded and took the group of younger campers back towards the house. Colter took Spencer’s place next to Remi and filled her in with what had happened and what damage he was able to see while walking around camp after. Lenina tried to listen in, but there was too much sound coming from other demigods around them. The Mess Hall was filled with demigods, all trying to figure out what had happened, and if anyone was hurt. Colter stood in front of the people, asking for all of the adults to join him. They all made a circle and started talking about the dragon inside of camp. Conrad took a seat next to his sister. “What you aren’t counted as an adult still?” Lenina questioned her brother who shrugged. “He was thinking about someone in the past. I assumed that it didn’t really have a lot to do with me, since I didn’t grow up with them. If I recognized the names then I would have joined the group, but I had no idea who they were.” Tristan was presented a dragon stone from Theodore, who had been the one to grab the keepsake of the monster. Colter then stood in front of the crowd and began to speak about how they had concluded that the campers leaving the borders weakened the borders themselves. They were given clean up duty, checking on the carnival, and not allowed to compete in the first capture the flag of the year. Lenina didn’t think that it was that scary of a punishment for letting in a dragon, but her father went on about if it was ever done again, they could possibly be banned from camp. None of the five seemed too excited about their punishment.

When her father stepped down from where had spoken, campers began to whisper about what was going on and if they thought that the five got what they deserved. Conrad stood with his parents and walked back with the Wests and Pascals towards the Wests house. Spencer had joined them once she had taken the younger campers to Li’s. They would be safe for the rest of the night, especially with Atti watching over their backs. Riana had appeared when the fighting was over. It seemed she wanted to see how her ‘boyfriend’ was doing. Lenina never knew what to call them, they were dating on and off, but she never knew when they were on and when they were off. When the group got back to the house, Tristan sent Aiden back to bed, and he made his way back into the house first. Colter turned to his son, but before any words were passed between the two, another female walked up to Conrad. Coral Lane, Lenina wouldn’t have minded, but no one had truly informed Adele about Conrad’s relationship with the daughter of Eros. Conrad glanced to the daughter of Apollo before turning to his father, “I guess I’ll see you in the morning.” He said with a nod and then walked away from the group with Coral. It was clear he wanted to get out of there with his secret girlfriend as fast as possible. Colter herded the rest of the family into the house, telling them that rest was needed before the morning. Lenina stood outside for a minute longer, watching Conrad and Coral walk down the sidewalk together and turn the corner, chatting along the way. Just as they turned the corner, Lenina was able to see Conrad take Coral’s hand in his and lightly swing it back and forth. Turning into the house, Lenina walked in with a smile on her face.

Her mother seemed to notice the pleased look on her face. “What are you happy about?” She questioned as they Wests made their way back downstairs and the Pascals went up. “Nothing,” Lenina lied before get back under her covers on the ground. Her parents got back into their bed, but rest didn’t seem to come to any of the West family. Lenina spent the rest of the night rolled on her left side and staring at the wall. Her eyes followed the lines in the wall. She could hear her parents turning in their pulled out bed, not being able to get comfortable after the monster had made its way inside of their protected borders.

                                              I WISH I HAD SLEPT

Breakfast was not made as big of a deal that morning. Lenina found an apple before leaving he house with her father. They would need to check on their cabin’s booth and then help others out if they needed the help. The Athena cabin seemed to be one of the lucky ones; it got by with just needing a bit of a paint job and picking up a few obstacles that were knocked down. The booth itself was still standing and looked about the same as it had the night before, when she had left to go home for dinner. She put Alden in charge of clearing up their booth, and she made her way to help around the camp. Her brother had a list of things he wanted to be done before lunch. Their father hadn’t stuck his nose in the carnival since Conrad was in charge, but now that there was fear and concern in the camp and New Athens, Colter wanted to be there. Zari, of the Hermes cabin, seemed a little on edge. She had been one of the most rational people that Lenina knew, which created problems but also some help around camp. Zari thought that it was pointless and irrational that Adele had a crush on Conrad, so she didn’t get along with the girl. This put Lenina in a tight spot, since she was close friends with Adele, and until she had admitted to liking the older West, Zari had been friends with her as well. Making her way up to Zari, Lenina asked the female, “Is everything going alright Zari?” The Middle Eastern female turned to her and smiled an awkward smile. “Well everything with my booth is fine, since we’re just doing a race. It’s not too hard to set up. Although, I’m concerned about the dragon, that got into camp last night.” Lenina wasn’t surprised that the female was worried about the monster. “I would worry about it too much. I mean, if the adults thought that it was a real threat they would do something about it and at least not allow the carnival to happen.” Zari hesitated, but then nodded to the female. Lenina felt as though her friend wasn’t saying everything on her mind, but she could hear her brother calling her, and she jogged over to her brother and helped him with what he needed.

                                              MY TUMMY IS GRUMMBLY

During lunch Lenina had changed her clothing into something that she thought fit the occasion, and spent her time running around having fun with Adele and Zari, separately. When dinner time came, she realized just how hungry and tired she was from running around with her friends. She headed directly towards the Mess Hall to get food. Making her way through the line at the Mess Hall, Lenina tossed a bit of her parfait into the fire for her grandmother, Athena. “Please continue to watch over me and the camp.” She whispered and then pushed a small amount of her chicken salad off into the fire. She had never really offered food to her grandfather, Hermes. “Please watch over Conrad as he enters his next chapter in life.” Lenina then walked away from the fire and took a seat next to Alden. Her parents were sitting with the Pascals and her brother at a table brought in just for them. Usually her mother would be sitting with Conrad at the Hermes table, and her father would join her at the Hermes table, but tonight would be something special. She had still wanted to speak with Adele alone, but hadn’t found the time to pull her aside just yet, which made Lenina worried about her brother’s announcement. It took a couple of minutes for everyone to get through the food line and the line to sacrifice food to their godly parents, but before everyone was able to dig into their food, Conrad stood up in front of the group. “Good evening,” He started, everyone quieting when he began to speak. “I want to thank everyone for working hard on the booths and all of the repairs that had to happen this morning. After last night, I was a little worried about how today would turn out, but I think that this carnival is going perfectly.” Campers began to cheer as he stated this; the excitement was in the air. When they calmed down, Conrad went on. “Today is a very special day for me, not only is it the first time that my entire family and god family have been inside of camp together for as long as I can remember, but today I would also like to make an announcement.” He walked towards the Eros cabin, where Coral had been sitting with her siblings. Whispering in her ear, she stood and walked up in front of the group with him. “Coral and I have been dating for the past year, and though some think that is a small amount of time, I know that my heart will only ever belong to Coral.” Getting down on one knee, Conrad pulled out a small box his mother had given him the morning before. He opened it and revealed a small ring with a diamond in the center, with a small ring of diamond around it. “Coral Vienna Lane, will you marry me?” The daughter of Eros’ face was the color of tomatoes. The entire room seemed to be holding their breath. A smile appeared on her face before she nodded her head, “Of course.” She said, instantly the Eros table went up in cheers, as well as the Hermes. The Wests and Pascals were clapping for their son and godson. Conrad placed the ring on his fiancée’s left ring finger, and pressed his lips against her own. Lenina couldn’t help but smile as bright as Coral seemed to be, she was happy that her brother was getting what he wanted and deserved in life.

Watching as her arrows bounced off the dragon Adele prayed to Apollo that whatever her father and godfather were working on came through quickly as she lead the group away from the fire in time to unleash another volley at the monster. They wouldn’t be able to keep that up for long without taking a major hit, as far as Adele could tell they were the only ones out there fighting the beast though there wasn’t much anyone could do from the ground. She could see a figure running towards them and started to work her group back towards the figure to meet him halfway after signaling to the archers with hand signals to where she wanted them to go. Falling to the rear of the group she found herself face to face with the head of Hercules cabin ”Theo says get clear he is going airborne.” he explained meeting them. Adele shook her head ”Colter and my dad ordered us here, he needs to stay grounded.” she told the large male. Thad swore and looked to a dark shape rising and took off running waving his arms trying to get his friend’s attention. ”Avoid hitting Theo and keep that beast busy.” Adele commanded taking another arrow from her quiver and shooting it off. Before the archers could get another round of projectiles off they a single arrow flew through the air. The head of Apollo cabin could feel it gliding through the air as if it was the sun itself, she watched as it sliced through the son of Zeus’ air current and straight for the dragon’s chest turning it to dust. Retracing the arrow’s flight path she turned to face where her father was sure to be standing though she couldn’t see him and smiled. ”What was that?” the head of Eros asked her looking to the same spot ”That was the reason that Apollo will always be better than Eros, our arrows have strength.” she said with a wink moving to gather her archers and head back towards camp.

                                              this is totally not cool

Back at camp Adele checked on her campers making sure that none of them were injured too badly before moving on. As head of Apollo cabin she also was the head of the infirmary though she wasn’t the best healer in camp and had a duty to check in there. Swinging by the West house she grabbed Aiden in case his talents were needed in the infirmary but found Cole managing nicely with the minor injuries that the campers had taken in the invasion. The most seriously wounded person was the son of Poseidon, Alex, but Cole had managed to stabilize him before tending to the others leaving the finishing touches for Adele. Confident she could handle Alex’s wounds she let Aiden and Cole tend to others. Alex’s girlfriend was making a fuss trying to make him comfortable and tearfully apologizing to the point that Adele grew tired of her and banished her from the building while she finished his treatment. She had barely finished working on his when a messenger came to tell them that she, Cole, and Alex were all wanted for a meeting of the cabin heads. Telling the same messenger to find Julie and have her report to the infirmary to help Aiden the three cabin leaders set off for the Mess Hall. Both the city and camp counsels were present as well as a few other people, like her father, were in the Mess discussing the attack. Moving to give her father a quick hug before finding her seat the girl started to feel self conscious realizing she was in pajamas and high tops with no socks in a council meeting. As people started to talk Adele listened as they talked about the past and people who had betrayed the camp which seemed pointless to Adele; it was the past and didn’t help them now unless Niko or whoever had totally gone zombie. ”What if they didn’t mean to, like an accident or mistake?” Zari’s friend Ki pointed out. The question hit Adele in the pit of her stomach, it didn’t feel right; it almost felt like a lie. But how could someone lie with a question?

As Thalia started to question her son about what he had done whispers started to fly. The Midnight Arena wasn’t really a well kept secret, at least Adele knew about it, but she didn’t think that it was the cause of the attack. They had to cross for a reason because the boarder protected them, if their crossing had damaged the boarder in anyway then they would have seen some effect before now; smaller monsters slipping through drawn by their collective smell, right? It seems a little farfetched to blame everything on the boys crossing but her godfather was the smartest person she knew so she would just have to trust his wisdom as he asked the people who had crossed to stand. Theo, Thad, Shane, and Alex stood as expected but a fifth, the head of Tyche, stood as well which was something of a surprise; he didn’t strike her as the macho hero type. The city council decided that they would be punished with manual labor which didn’t seem that serious as they were all demigods but also banned them from the first capture the flag game which was completely out of line. Having them absent from the game wasn’t just a punishment for them but to their cabins and allies who would miss the cabin heads. It totally wasn’t fair. Colter went on to say that their punishment would be banishment from the Camp and New Athens if they were found illegally crossing again which seemed completely unfair. A life outside the safety of Half Blood Hill was lethal, very few had managed to live passed their twenties unless they acquired mega wealth that could insulate them from the beasties the way her parents had. It was a reason that they were just discovering demigod half breeds because none had lived long enough to start real families. In one generation they were on their way to a thriving civilization that was how much the monsters held them back and now they were talking about throwing the boys out of that safety? Were they totally trying to write up death certificates? As the meeting broke up campers grouped up to talk about the verdict but Adele was too tired to gossip and instead moved to her father and wrapped an arm around him and walked back towards the West house.

                                              rise and shine

Despite being a zombie on the walk home and crawling into Leni’s bed Adele was still up as the sun rose bending her body into yoga poses. The stretches helped her muscles loosen up after the night time battle and combined with the strength that the sun gave her she was ready to go bright and early much to her sister’s dismay. After showering and dressing in her camp shirt and khaki shorts Adele headed downstairs meeting her brother who had just come down. Breakfast really was the most important meal to the children of Apollo and for Aiden, a vegetarian, it was hard to get that protein but it was easily solved by slathering toast with peanut butter before heading to the carnival grounds. ”If that dragon knew the Apollo Bolt was taking him down he probably would of hit our booth for sure.” Adele joked seeing their booths were unharmed in the attack where other booths had been damaged by the dragon’s attack. Conrad looked a little panicked that things might not happen on schedule so Adele decided to split her cabin up setting them out to help the booths that had the most damage. Soon enough all the booths were up and in working order ready and Adele went back to her own booth to have a shift at Two Truths and a Lie. While she was working not a single person was able to beat her much to the dismay at many of the Hermes campers. Once she was finished she went to Ri’s booth and had a sun painted on her face first off and then set out to go to the different booths she found interesting. She met up with Leni and the pair of them went to the different games cleaning up tickets left and right.

Before dinner Adele went back to the West house to change into a dress her mother had designed before returning to the Mess Hall for the banquet. Going through the food line Adele spooned on cilantro lime rice and some mango salsa to go with her grilled chicken as well as a little something for Apollo. Once she was seated she started to eat and chat happily with her siblings, the cabin leader challenge long forgotten with the help of the carnival. Standing up and clinking his glass Conrad drew the attention of the room to him ”Today is a very special day for me, not only is it the first time that my entire family and god family have been inside of camp together for as long as I can remember, but today I would also like to make an announcement.” Adele’s heart started to race in his chest. He was going to out them to the entire camp?! Just like that he was going to confess his love for her in front of everyone, in front of her parents. Adelaide Pascal-West, Adelaide West, Adele West, Mrs. Conrad West no matter how she ran it through her mind it sounded perfect and made her heart soar. ” Coral and I have been dating for the past year, and though some think that is a small amount of time, I know that my heart will only ever belong to Coral.” and just like that she was crashing and burning. Her world started to spin, spiraling downwards. Conrad, her Conrad in love with someone else. He was the only man she had ever wanted, the only one. She was so sure that they were going to be the bridge that made their family officially family. She had kissed him just last night, not even twenty four hours ago under the street lights not even a mile from where she sat and he was with someone else. The sound of clapping filled the room bringing Adele back, everyone was clapping even her parents; applauding that their daughter had been made a fool of. Pushing up hard from the table Adele marched over to the Athena table and grabbed Leni’s arm hauling her up ”Did you know about this? About them?” she asked angrily, a hush falling over the room. Lenina started to speak dancing around the question and Adele grabbed her arm again willing her to be truthful ”DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THEM? ANSWER THE QUESTION.” she said in tight clipped words ”I knew, yeah.” the girl replied and started to say something else but was cut off as Adele’s hand struck out slapping her across the face ”You’re dead to me.” Adele said in a voice barely above a whisper shoving her back hard before turning on her heel stalking out of the Mess Hall.

Heading to Apollo cabin Adele shed her shoes by her bed and crawled in. She hadn’t settled in, all of her things were at the West house, in that traitor’s room, but it still felt comforting to be in her old bed. Curling up in fetal position and racked with sobs Adele pressed her pillow into her face to muffle the sounds of her crying not that anyone was in the cabin to hear it. ”Adele?” she heard a voice from behind her but didn’t bother to see who it was, she didn’t want to see anyone and Gods help Lenina West if she had decided to follow her. She felt her bed sink down a little before a warm hand was placed on her back, she knew from the instant blossom of warmth that is was Sam. ”Adele are you ok?” he asked rubbing small circles into her back trying to comfort her. Shaking her head still against the pillow ”noimnotokihateallofthemleniconrad.” she started and Sam chuckled ”I can’t understand you behind that pillow.” he said softly pulling it away and putting it on the floor before using the pad of his thumb to clean up one of the trails of mascara ”Let’s try that again, are you ok?” he asked. Adele shook her head ”No, I’ve been so stupid and the whole time Leni was just laughing it up knowing…” she said her voice thick with emotion. Sam sighed and ran his hand through her hair but didn’t say anything for several seconds ”Is there anything I can do?” he asked finally. Adele shook her head and moved to put her head in Sam’s lap letting him stroke her hair in silence. After ten minutes or so Adele shifted, the lace of her dress itching her legs and she wished she had her things and looked up at Sam ”Will you take Aiden to go get my stuff from there Sam? Please I don’t want to go back there.” she asked. The son of Notus nodded looking down at her ”Sure Adele, anything.” he told her gently moving so that he was no longer under her head ”Thanks Sam, you’re a good friend…” she told him looking up at him from her bed and then took his hand giving it a squeeze ”probably my best friend these days.” she told him. Sam returned the squeeze and then let her hand fall back to the bed ”I’m always going to be here for you.” he told her before turning to leave the cabin.

He knew it was going to be bad and the more that Colter went on about the safe environment that they had labored to crate at Camp and in New Athens the feeling just got worse. As the head of New Athens counsel asked the demigods to stand Theo was the first up, his mother had all but said he had been there and it wasn’t exactly a secret that he frequently crossed and if need be he would shoulder all the blame himself. Thad was up seconds after him; no way his best friend would let him take the blame himself. Slower than the first two Alex and Shane rose, manning up to their guilt as well and finally Landon stood taking his part in the crossing as well. When it was obvious that no one else was going to stand the son of Athena delivered his verdict ” Because of the amount of risk you put your fellow campers at tonight, you will be put on clean up duty for the next two weeks and banned from the first capture the flag of the year. Tomorrow, you will ensure that all is set for the carnival, and tomorrow night you will not be allowed to rest until the entire camp is cleaned. You will be in charge of making sure all of the booths are torn down and everything is ready for camp to begin. Since this is your first offense, we have decided that these will be your punishments. However, if we find out that you have broken the rules again, you will be given a worse punishment, and will be considered for being banned from Camp Half Blood and New Athens. Now, I hope that everyone can have a more peaceful night, and a great carnival tomorrow.” before leaving the podium. Theo’s eyes went wide and he wanted to protest. The way Colter was wording it made it sound like they were letting them off easy or something. Being on clean up duty was pretty fair but everything else? Banned from the first capture the flag was way out of line. The first match of the summer set the tone for the entire summer and four of the major players were being benched? It would create confusion on the battle field with major leaders being absent which could lead to more injuries than were needed putting undo strain on the infirmary. Then that whole bit about being banned didn’t even make sense. Thad, Alex, and Shane didn’t have the Achilles mark and would be vulnerable to monster attack; signed death warrants. Then there was the problem of collateral damage, Alex and Theo had Big Three blood in their veins and anyone who got close to them would be in the line of dodge too that meant any humans they might come into contact with could be maimed and killed just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He knew that they had messed up crossing and actions had consequences and the price of power was responsibility and all of that but this was just extreme. He also knew better than to say as much. With the meeting apparently over the crowd started to break up to discuss the ruling but he didn’t get that opportunity, both his mother and father were heading for the exit ”Now Jason Theodore Wainwrith.” his father said sharply. The only thing scarier than his father taking the authoritarian role was when he did it and used Theo’s full name. Sighing he made a face turning to Thad ”Later man.” he said ”Later bro, see you in the morning.” his friend replied before they parted ways.

i’ve seen some scary stuff but this takes the cake…

The scary silence that had radiated off of his mother and father the walk home from the council meeting persisted the next morning through breakfast. The tension was thick in the air different than ever before, typically a fight between him and his parents sent the air crackling with electricity. This was an omnipresent and oppressive silence that Theo had never experienced and it unsettled him to the point that the food he was putting in his mouth tasted bitter as if peppered with their disappointment. A knock on the front door broke the spell binding silence, feeling anxious the demigod wanted to jump up but the look his father sent him froze him in place; daring him to move a muscle. Getting up from the table his mother went to the door opening it to greet Conrad before leading him into the kitchen ”He’s here for you.” she said. Theo nodded and stood looking at his parents ”Well I guess I’ll be going, I’ll see you guys later.” he said with a small nod. Before leaving he moved to where his mother stood hands on her hips and stooped down and pressed a kiss to her cheek feeling a little of the rigidness leave her body. Leaving the house they went next door and collected Thad, wordlessly the pair walked behind Conrad unsure if they were allowed to speak.

They group grew larger as they collected Alex from New Athens and then went to camp to get Shane and Landon as Conrad conducted inspections. Arriving at the fair ground it was plain that the dragon had damaged some of the booths. There wasn’t much to his area, a sign and Thad’s had been a small target but the rest of the border crossers didn’t fare as well. Alex, Shane, and Landon all had booth repairs to do so Conrad set Theo out to help Julien help fix the refreshment stand which entailed not only doing repairs but moving boxes of food and drink into the station so it could start making cotton candy and other carnival fare. After he was done with the concession stand Theo moved on to help Cole set up his first aid demonstration booth his cabin had for the remainder of the set up time. Heading to his area he was a little surprised to see his little sister already floating eager campers though they had scheduled him to take the first shift at the booth. ”What’s up I thought I was on first?” he questioned. Sarah shrugged lifting her arm up quickly to shoot her rider through the air quickly and then letting him float back down ”I just thought we’d switch it up since you were put on heavy work detail this morning.” she told him. ”Love you little sis.” he told her moving away letting her concentrate on her task. Going to the Hercules area he found Thad standing with his siblings watching as people tried their strength and discussing the ruling of the council. ”I mean some of the punishment seems to fit I guess but the talk of banishment… I think that is a little much. Hey Theo I thought you were at your booth.” his friend said seeing him approach. Theo shrugged ”Sarah is taking the first one. How’s your thing?” he asked. ”Well no one outside of us has rung the bell so…” one of Thad’s brothers grinned. ”What? Let me try.” he said making a face and butting in line. No one complained and soon enough the hammer was in his hand and with an easy swing he sent the ringer right up the tube to make the bell clang. ”Easy.” he said as Thad handed him one of their tickets before turning to his siblings ”You guys got this, I’m going to hang out with Theo for a bit and then head back.” he said.

No one said they couldn’t have fun at the carnival so Theo was determined to make the best of his free shifts. Heading to Shane’s booth to do battle against Thad with foam batons there was a small group cheering them on until finally Theo yielded to his friend out of annoyance of being bopped on the head relentlessly. After that they hit up a few of the games like earning tickets from booths that required good hand eye coordination like the Apollo dart booth or the dunk tank that Alex had helped set up. After a while Theo had to go back to relieve Sarah for the air rides and Thad went to do the same for his brothers stationed at the bell game. Letting Sarah have his prize tickets he took over giving rides to people who wanted to know what flying was like when not on the back of a pegasus or in a plane. Some campers tried to talk to him about the ruling of the council but Theo told them he thought the punishment was fair for the most part and then lifted them not wanting to look like a sullen child rather than a man.

                                                whoa… that was intense

At dinner the dragon seemed all but forgotten after the success of the carnival but the real show was when Conrad asked Coral the old head of Eros to marry him. At first everyone seemed happy but then Adele exploded at the head of Athena demanding to know if she knew all along about the couple and then slapped her and the dragon wasn’t even a blip on the radar anymore. Everyone knew that the Pascals and Wests were thick as thieves and rumors swirled around about the cause of Adele’s outburst after she stormed from the Mess Hall. Soon enough the meal winded down and everyone started to go their separate way and the five crossers went to Conrad looking for guidance in tearing the carnival down but were intercepted by Colter instead ”I’m going to take over clean up let’s head outside and get started” the man said wanting to give his son a little room to process everything that had happened and deal with Coral who was pretty upset over Adele’s reaction. Leaving the Mess Hall Sun approached the group a sheepish look on her face ”Mister West?” she said looking down at her shoes digging the toe of her right shoe into the dirt ”I think I should help clean up. I didn’t cross or anything but I was there cheering Theo on and I think that it is only fair that I share some of the burden.” the daughter of Nike told him. ”Alright, you’ll be on trash duty.” Colter told her nodding his head ”Me too Mister West, I was there too so I should help out.” Luce said not wanting to be out done by Sun ”Ok I guess you’re also on trash duty.” he told the other girl.

Leading them to the deserted carnival booths he set the young girls to picking up debris from the day before he started to outline to the men what they were supposed to do with the skeletons of the booths once they were torn down ”I’ll leave you to it and I’ll be back to check on you in an hour.” he told them before leaving. ”Shane and I will start on this side and you three can start working over there.” Alex said motioning them to the other side of booths. Theo shrugged it didn’t matter which side he started tearing down so he moved to the first booth on their side, the Aphrodite face painting booth after picking up a hammer and started to dismantle the pieces. Thad followed suit and joined him in taking the booth down. ”Hey Theo pretty cool huh?” Luce called out as several pieces of trash flew through the air, carried by spirits. ”Oh yeah real cool enslaving his grandfather’s subject for your petty needs.” Sun fired at the girl. Luce turned and the trash all fired at her littering the ground ”Better than your goodie two shoes routine, ‘oh I was there so I should share the burden’ puh-lease.” she replied hotly. Thad chuckled and shook his head as the two sixteen years old fought back and forth until Sun claiming that no matter how much she threw herself at Theo he was never going to be claimed as a member of Hades instead of Zeus. ”Meow, hey Shane what do you call a cat fight between little kids? Kitten fight?” he teased ”Must suck to not be able to pull girls your own age.” he added. Theo bristled he didn’t have problems pulling girls of any age: he was a stud ”At least I don’t have to go after girls that already have boyfriends because I’ve run through all the single ones.” he shot back finishing off with the Aphrodite booth. He and Thad moved on to work on tearing down the Tyche booth that was significantly different than the day before chuckling as Landon grumbled under his breath ”Hey why don’t you carry this stuff off?” Theo suggested not sure what had caused Landon’s mood change while he and Thad started to work on his booth’s tear down.

                                              OUTFIT

Lenina's happiness for her brother didn't last long. Adele made her way to the Athena cabin faster than Lenina's mother would have been able to teleport next to her. Grabbing her arm, Adele pulled the daughter of Athena off her seat. She immediately went off on the girl about what her brother had just asked Coral. "Did you know about this? About them?" The entire Mess Hall went silent, staring at the two females. Lenina was speechless, she didn't think that the other girl would cause such a big scene in front of the entire population of New Athens. "Adele, I knew that, I mean, it's just-" Lenina started, trying to form words that her best friend would accept as an answer. When Adele grabbed Lenina's arm, she knew that she wouldn't be able to lie to the daughter of Apollo. "DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THEM? ANSWER THE QUESTION." Lenina's eyes were latched to the ground, not wanting to tell her friend the truth. "I knew, yeah. And I was going to tell-" Lenina was cut off once again, but this time by smack across the face from Adele's hand. Lenina was so shocked she barely caught Adele say, "You're dead to me." She was shoved back by the female, and didn't try to catch herself as she fell to the ground. Staring into nothingness, Lenina sat there for what felt like hours, before she was brought back to reality. Feeling a hand on her shoulder, she looked up to see her brother kneeling next to her. "Come on, let's go home." Lenina hadn't noticed that she had begun to cry, but she wrapped her arms around her brother and allowed him to lift her off the ground and head towards New Athens. The whole time that it took to get back to their house, Lenina kept her face on her brother's shoulder, not caring to look at who was with them, or how the other demigods of New Athens were reacting to what had happened at dinner. When they got inside of the house, she was placed on the couch, Tristan was the first to approach her. "Lenina, let me see your face." She had stuffed her face into the couch cushion, but turned so that her godfather could see her face. He lightly pressed his thumb onto her face, turning to figure out how hard his daughter had slapped her. "I don't think you'll bruise at all. I'm sorry about what Adele did, she had no right to do something like that." Lenina couldn't determine whether the male was talking to her or to Coral and Conrad who were sitting on the love seat in the living room. Their mother had disappeared with Spencer into the kitchen.

The front door opened, Riana stormed in with Odette, throwing a devilish glare towards the daughter of Athena. "I can't believe you would do such a thing to Adele, she has been nothing but gracious towards you our entire lives." Lenina was usually able to keep her emotions in check, but after what had happened that night, she wanted to rip Odette and Riana's faces off. She assumed that Conrad had read her mind, and stood before she could lunge at the girls. "Riana, this is family time right now, you are welcome to join us, but you will not be rude towards any of my family." Odette grabbed Riana's wrist, to tell her that they should keep moving and go to Lenina's room, where Riana's belongings were at the moment. Riana glimpsed at Coral and mumbled something under her breath that sounded like, "Pathetic." She then turned and walked out of the room as quickly as possible. It was clear that Conrad had considered following the female out and lecturing her, but Coral had gotten out of her seat and had his hand in hers. "Don't worry Conrad, we both knew that not everyone would be pleased to hear about our relationship." Lenina knew that was why they had been dating quietly up until their engagement. Her brother stood frozen for another minute, but nodded and sat down back on the couch with his fiancée. When the door sounded again, Lenina was hoping that it would be her father, but instead, Samson, from the Notus cabin, and Aiden had walked into the house. Aiden smiled at the group, "Congratulations." He was the only Pascal sibling who seemed to be able to suck it up and be happy for those around him. Conrad smiled at the boy, "Thank you, Aiden." With that, the two boys disappeared deeper into the house. Lenina wasn't surprised that the Aiden was showing kindness to their family. Aiden had thick skin, he didn't let things get him down too easily.

Not long after the two Pascal siblings came into the house with the others, they exited with belongings. From what Lenina could tell, Aiden and Samson were carrying a female's belongings, which she assumed were owned by Adele, not her younger brother. Their departure was followed by yet another arrival, although this one was expected. Colter entered the room, and walked directly to Lenina's side. Kneeling beside where she sat, he lightly examined her face where she had been slapped. "Papa, Tristan already looked, I'm fine." Her father remained checking on her face until her mother, Spencer, and Tristan re-entered the room. "Staring at her face isn't going to take back what happened. She's not going to bruise, you can calm down." Tristan joked to Colter, who only moved to sit next to his daughter when he had decided that the son of Apollo was correct in his beliefs. The mood of the room quickly switched to center around the newly engaged couple. Spencer had carried out a tray of sweets and tea, which she placed on the coffee table in the middle of the seats. Remi placed the sweetest smile on her face that she could, as exhausted as she was at that time of night. "Welcome to the family, Coral." A slight blush appeared on the female's face as Spencer congratulated the couple. Lenina watched her father sit quietly watching the couple interact with the family. Tristan joked about the West family and what it would be like to be part of it. There was little talk about what had happened during dinner, which Lenina was grateful for. She didn't want to have to explain that she had known all along about the couple, and that she hadn't told Adele, allowing her to continue to believe that Conrad loved her. Aiden slipped back into the house shortly after taking Adele's belongings out of the house, but excused himself to go to bed. They continued to talk until Remi looked as though she was going to pass out. Conrad and Coral excused themselves from the house, and bid their farewell as they headed towards Conrad's house. The Pascals went for the stairs up to get to the room they were staying in. Colter helped Remi down the stairs, so that she could rest from a long day.

Lenina decided that she would go study for a short while before going to bed. Walking outside, she was focused on the books sitting on the table where she had left them, when she heard something calling her name. For most people, they would assume that it was a person calling their name, but Lenina had a bit of an odd gift. From the time she was a small child, she had been able to communicate with owls. When she got older, she realized that it was a sign that she was leaning towards her Athena heritage more than Hermes side. Looking up to the swing set in her yard, she found Darrow staring down at her. She had given him the name when she was eight years old. They had first met when she was playing outside with her brother. The owlet had separated from his mother, and couldn't find his nest. Lenina had covered Darrow with a leaf so that no one would bother him, and then forced her brother to adventure into the woods with her to find his mother. Conrad had tried to talk her into waiting until the morning, but she wanted to find his mother while it was night time. It hadn't taken long for Lenina to hear the mother owl calling for her son. She had explained to the mother where to find her son, and then led her back. Her brother had stared at her with a confused look on his face, not understanding why she had just hooted at an owl. She gave him a devilish grin, she had always been jealous when his ability to read minds had appeared. Now she had an ability to speak to owls, and her brother wasn't able to out shine her in one ability. When they had gotten home, their parents had lectured them for an hour about wandering off on their own at night. Lenina had taken responsibility for talking Conrad into going with her, but her brother had been the one to be punished. After that day, Darrow and her had grown closer, speaking to each other on a regular basis. "Where have you been?" Lenina questioned the owl, taking a seat on the swing, waiting for his answer. "Did you think I was going to stick around when that dragon showed up in camp?" He hooted down at the female, she didn't blame him, he didn't have any defense, and had no choice but to flee. "However, I wanted to make it back in time for the welcoming party, mice tend to appear when there is a lot of leftovers." Lenina laughed at the owl who had moved down to the swing next to hers. "You should have taken me up on those self defense classes, then you wouldn't have had to leave the woods when the dragon appeared. You could have helped out the camp, more than I was allowed to help." The owl turned his head to look at the female, he was about to say something when they heard another voice call out for Darrow. "Sorry to cut this short, but you can't leave the lady waiting, can you? It was nice speaking with you, Lenina, we should do this again soon." He always ended their conversation that way, and they always spoke to each other shortly after. She waved to the owl as he flew back towards the woods to his mate.

It had been but five minutes since Lenina had walked out of the house in order to study, but she could feel her eye lids begin to droop. Standing up from the swing, she walked back into the house and walked quietly to the stairs to the basement. Opening the door, she heard her parents talking, and opened the door as quietly as possible. Sitting on the top step of the stairs, she listened in on what her parents were talking about. She was able to see them from a small opening in the wall that looked down to the bed. "I don't understand why they kept the relationship a secret." She knew her father was weighing things in his head when they were in the living room before. "Well, it can't help that her parents have never seemed to like us. Even when we were in camp with them." Lenina didn't know that her parents had a past with Coral's parents. She couldn't help but wonder what had happened between them. She was surprised that her parents were awake after coming downstairs. Her mother had practically slept walked down the stairs to get to bed. "Where is Lenina?" Her father questioned, hearing her mother yawn as he asked. "She's probably just outside reading one of those books you got her." Her mother said before slowly moving her side, facing the wall. Her father sat there for a couple of minutes, before joining his wife and wrapping his left arm over her body, resting on her stomach, as if to protect their unborn child. Lenina waited at the top of the stairs for another five minutes, hoping that gave her parents enough time to fall asleep, she then softly made her way down and found her pajamas. Slipping into the bathroom, she changed clothing, and prepared for bed. Crawling under her covers on the ground, she closed her eyes. The last thing she heard was her father's voice, "Good night, Lenina." Sleep came faster than it usually did, within seconds she was drifting off into dreamland.

                                              SUMMER HERE WE COME

Usually, Lenina was excited for the first day of camp, but this year things were different. Ever since her brother got engaged to Coral, she had found that half of the camp was out to get her. Every corner she turned, she found another person who wanted her skin. Even inside her own cabin, she could tell there were demigods who stood on Odette's side, wanting to see Lenina fall from her spot as cabin leader. Waking up on the floor, she pulled herself up to find the bed next to her empty. Her parents were already out of bed and most likely upstairs. Today her godparents would be leaving New Athens and heading back to the city. Lenina was sad to see them leave, but the thought of her own bed pleased her. Even though, she wouldn't be able to sleep in it until the end of the summer. They weren't allowed to sleep in New Athens during the summer camp. Although, she assumed that her father would try to pull her out when her younger sibling was born. One of the only reasons she liked having her city connected to the camp, being able to talk her father into pulling her out of camp if she wanted. It had only happened once or twice before, when Lenina got a new book, and wanted a day to read it. Her mother had yelled at her father for taking her out of camp for something so 'foolish' in her mind. She would complain for a short while, but let it go eventually.

On the edge of the bed, closest to Lenina, her orange camp t-shirt was sitting, waiting for her. There was also a pair of jean shorts. Grabbing the clothing she made her way into the bathroom. There was a small shower that she used to clean herself before changing into the clothing that had been laid out for her. Walking up to the first floor, her mother placed a dish on the table. Her godparents and parents were all in the dining room, waiting for her and Aiden to come in for breakfast. When she reached the table, her god-brother walked into the room as well. He was exactly like his sisters, when it came to the fact that he could roll out of bed and look completely presentable. Once they were all sat down at the table, they began to serve themselves. Since the welcoming party, Lenina didn't know what to say around her godparents. She felt responsible for not telling Adele about Coral and Conrad. There had been enough tense feeling that Lenina had escaped to her brother's house the day before. She had spent most of the day watching Coral and Conrad scurry around their house, moving her belongings in and rearranging his, so hers fit. She thought that they made a gentle, loving couple, and if they chose to have children, she knew they would have a kind home to grow up in. As long as Adele didn't try to bomb their house for revenge.

Their meal was almost completely silent, the only chatter was between the adults, about their plans for the coming summer and school year. Namely, it was her mother and father questioning Tristan and Spencer about their plans. Everyone could guess what her parents would be doing after their child was born, more sleepless nights for their household. Another reason for Lenina to find a small corner in Conrad's house to sleep in. When their meal was finished, Lenina gave her godparents a hug, and kissed her parents goodbye, taking her trunk with Aiden towards the border of New Athens that led to camp. When she stepped over the border, she noticed that Alden was waiting for someone. "What are you doing over here Alden?" Aiden continued for the cabins, but Lenina turned to her half brother to chat. "I was waiting for you. From what I heard, there are some people here out to get you. I thought I'd walk with you to the cabin." Lenina had a feeling that her half brother tried to stand up for her, and got messed with for supporting her. "Thanks," She said, he stood and took the trunk from her. He had been raised to be a well mannered gentleman. When they reached the gray building, Lenina could already tell that something had changed since the last time she had entered the cabin. Alden waited to follow her in, she assumed that he already knew what she was concerned about. Her right foot wasn't even half way through the door before she could hear Odette. "I said clean this area," She yelled to one of the campers. When she noticed that Lenina had entered the cabin, she smirked at the girl before stating. "Lenina, I don't know what you think your responsibilities are as a cabin leader, but you need to be a better role model to the other campers." Lenina walked passed the female without a word to her, but when she reached her bed in the cabin, she figured out what the girl meant. It looked as though someone had swept the entire cabin poured their collection onto her bed. Alden put her trunk on the ground at the end of her bed. He then walked to the top of her bed and began to take the top sheet off the bed. "Don't worry about it, Alden, I got this." Lenina gathered each corner of the sheet and got all of the dust and sand into the center of the bed. Picking up the sheet as though it was a bowl with grime in it, she headed directly for Odette, who had relocated to outside of the cabin, standing talking to Riana. When she reached the girl, she poured the contents of the sheets over her head. Odette's mouth hung open, until she had to close it to keep the dust out. "Pull that s**t again, and you'll be wishing you didn't belong to the Athena cabin." With that, Lenina turned around and walked back into her cabin, her half siblings staring at her with wide eyes, wondering how she got the nerve to do such a thing. She knew she was only fanning the flames, but somehow, she could care less. If being the 'responsible' one meant standing their and taking s**t she didn't deserve, she would rather be kicked out of Camp Half Blood.
