scrolling back through the contests there actually hasn't been that much, but i guess seeing 3 within 2 days just made it feel worse

I was in the middle of writing basically this when I saw you said it.

Unless you count forum events, side shops and settings as npcs, which is something I doubt most people do, the last npc theme was 10 days ago (younger gaia npcs) and the one before that was on April 3rd (where is npc deiderich). I'm all for theme variety, but saying a topic that comes up once or twice a month is too common is just untrue. Not when we have triple that in color scheme themes every month minimum.

It's pretty clear cut but basically no backgrounds or speech bubbles but NPC avatars don't have that. Animal is mandatory because I want paw npcs not chibi human(oid)s.
Side note, I do not have an idea for mine so this will be equally as fun for me to enter!

Also I know people are complaining about NPC themes but this is basically creating an OC type theme. Not really a cosplay type for existing NPCs....

What are the other two? There's this current mother's day one and the young NPCs. New NPC tomorrow would make three (even if it's really an OC theme), so that makes only two this month. Bun Chick war is based on the forum event, not NPCs (it didn't ask to dress as the NPCs for the event, just a bunny or chick on the battlefield). Barton Pizza is based on a town, not an NPC. The reformed villains? That's a cosplay theme. I suppose the prince gino theme could be argued to be one, even if it's based off an item.

I agree that NPC themes should be spaced out. I just don't see where this figure is coming from. If people said there were too many gaia themes in close proximity this month I would agree. We're already at five of those this month, with two being on the same day (today). It's the use of the term "NPCs" specifically that I disagree with.

yes, i was counting the gino and make your own npc one. is that unfair because it's just npc adjacent? maybe. but look, I'm really not interested in arguing about it. i already admitted that it wasn't quite as bad as i thought and that i just had a moment of frustration. can we just move on? 😭

oh, you were counting themes that hadn't run yet. That's where the miscommunication occurred. I had only been counting themes that already ran. That was a mistake on my part and I apologize for that. I personally would say gino and the new npc theme are more in the general gaia category than npcs (NPC-adjacent is a good summation of it though), but I agree that there have been too many of the gaia related themes in close proximity this month. These sorts of things really should be a once or twice a month sort of deal. We were arguing the same point essentially, but in different ways based on semantics. We now know this and can move on from there.

I always thought the flame set on here was ugly. sweatdrop I never know how to style it. Once again it looks like I'll be skipping these themes unless I can come up with something cute for The Cat's Pajamas. It sucks how I can't enter most days because half of the themes are uninspiring.

Unpopular opinion, I like the npc themes because it's fun to play around with their set styles. Plus I enjoy making avi's in casual clothing.

i think we can all agree that having a variety of themes is important, it's no different when we get cosplay and color scheme themes, or at point gijinka or nouveau themes, back to back. this is not an attack on those themes or even the people who suggest them, no one is saying never run them again, just space them out. themes get suggested everyday and all types of themes should be given the chance to run. it's okay for certain themes to run but it's also okay to be bored by them if they run too much.
