Tiles is Gaia's newest game. It has cute art and is easy to play. You can find it under Games or directly on the Games page.

Game Rules

The rules to the game are very straight-forward. You need to make chains of tiles that have some characteristic in common. All tiles have two characteristics. Background and Animal.
The first three share the same background, the second group shares the animal.

The game board looks some thing like this:

User Image

You can start clicking any tile on the board. It will get highlighted by a blue boarder and get a checkmark and an X on it. That means it's the current selection. Around it, in color will appear the tiles that can be next in the chain. All tiles that cannot be clicked are grayed out.
Once you click a tile next to it, the previous tile continues highlighted and a blue line connects both tiles. That way you can keep track what tiles you've already clicked (as you can't pass by them again).

User Image

In the picture above I've already passed by 4 tiles and I only have one path to go, since the only colored tile (that isn't highlighted) is the doll.

So now that you already know how to make chains, the question is, how do you win the game?

We should look at the right border of the board. It's pretty obvious.

User Image

Score: How many points you made during this game. The more tiles you clear in one chain, the more points you get.
Level: What level are you on in the current game. Levels are not infinite, nor are they very many. Around 5 on hard.
Chain Length: How many tiles are selected / How many tiles need to be selected to complete a chain.
Chains Done: How many chains have been completed of the desired size / How many chains need to be completed to pass this level.
Ticket Pool: How many Tickets you would win if you finish the current level. It's cumulative, more levels completed, higher payout.

Fire Tiles
If you do not select a chain of the correct length it will not be counted towards the chain done and as punishment a fire tile will appear. This tile "burns" the tile below it (blinking in red) every round that you play that you don't use the fire tile in a chain. Don't try to include it in a chain that contains only itself. Two fire tiles will appear to haunt you. If you include it in a chain that isn't large enough it will be substituted by another fire tile (but you may need to do that to avoid losing the game). But there is a bright side: It's worth more points than you're regular tile. If a fire tile reaches the bottom of the board it's game over.

Rock Tiles
They are not going anywhere. You'll have to work around them. Unless you burn them. Then they go away. (Thanks Harakeke!)

Some decks in the selection page are called Mystery decks and are represented by an interrogation mark. This is what a Mystery deck game looks like.

User Image

Each mystery tile represents a tile with a background and an animal. So how do you figure out what tile is what? You don't have to. Just start clicking those tiles and the compatible neighbors will be highlighted. But to win this, where do you start and how do you actually get a chain of 15 tiles?

This is the trick I've come up with: In a notebook write down numbers 1-5 in columns so to represent your tiles. Like this:

User Image

Them go around clicking tiles and following paths and drawing lines between the paths that are open like in the picture below. If you want to mark the paths that you are sure that are closed in a different color, feel free.

User Image

You don't need to complete all the tiles, when you feel like you have enough connection to complete the chain size, you can stop. I stopped like this:

User Image

Then you can draw your path, it's easy to see when the lines are drawn. My choice in path is probably not the longest, but to complete the level that isn't necessary (and as far as I know, points do not affect ticket payout some correlation, not a major difference if you get a high score).

When you stop playing or you finish the game you win tickets. Those tickets can be used in Prize and Joy. So for all your casino-wear, play Tiles. wink

Great guide!
One tip: I found that fire can burn through rocks, so you can do a "controlled burn" to get pesky rocks out of the way. Just make sure the fire doesn't make it all the way down to the bottom!

Thanks Harakeke. ^^

If anyone else has other information that I haven't added please tell me. The game is new so I haven't played enough to see every situation.

I've been seeing small differences in the amounts of tickets given as prizes. Has anyone found a correlation with the score?

I'll probably make a complete table of how many levels, how many chains of how many tiles and how many tickets when I get the time to update.

If you wish. I'd be very grateful.

Like you, the only game I haven't played is the Mystery Tiles on hard until the end (I played them on easy but the extra challenge didn't pay back in the form of more tickets).

That's why I draw them out like I've described it.
And when I can't find a chain long enough I like to remove short chains even if that gives me a burning tile or try to make them all similar. I can recognize similar tiles because they create a grid-like pattern on the drawing.
