“So, I'm not sure if it's okay to ask this here, but ever since I have started using this, animated avis now have a play button on them, this happened once before because I am on Chrome, but I fixed it by going to chrome://plugins and making sure flash is allowed to always play. Now it's back again so I thought maybe it has something to do with this GaiaUpgrade thing.”

That's the same problem that happened to me yesterday. I'm not sure if it's related to GaiaUpgrade because I found a fix, thanks to this post. I suggest you try it out too.

so it's suffering from whatever the other issues are, then, bc i no longer see the "ok" part of it, just like i no longer see a lot of stuff lately (tho the problem isn't gaiaupgrade; i think it's either chrome or some other crap gaia's messed with recently).

One thing I've been wondering myself is how expensive is it to host your own server for GaiaUpgrade/Tools stuff? I've never hosted a server before and the last time I've seen someone hosting a server years ago, it was for a multiplayer server for one of Westwood's games that I would play about.

One thing I've been wondering myself is how expensive is it to host your own server for GaiaUpgrade/Tools stuff? I've never hosted a server before and the last time I've seen someone hosting a server years ago, it was for a multiplayer server for one of Westwood's games that I would play about.

Depends on the host and the hosting plan. We use DreamHost for Gaia Tools. DreamHost has 3 shared hosting plans from $10.95/mo, to 1yr plan $119.40/yr (equates to $9.95/mo), to 3yr plan $286.20/yr (equates to $7.95/mo). Or you can get a VPS server, which is your own virtual server, same machine as everyone else, but you get your own cores for as little as $15/mo.

The most expensive is always going to be dedicated hosting, also called bare metal hosting, where you get the whole physical server.

That's a fair concern.
The answer to your question is no. We do not collect account credentials so there's no way GaiaUpgrade would lead to your account being compromised.
Also, since November, GaiaUpgrade is owned by a larger third-party service provider for Gaia, called Gaia Tools and that Unheard has joined the team. Account integrity is something we value if GaiaUpgrade had been shady we wouldn't have absorbed it into the services we provide. 3nodding
