Lemmee tell ya why that's BS: How you'll live without tektek

Ok, as I am sure many of you all have noticed by now, tektek is gone.

And I have seen numerous claims that Gaia is doing what tektek was doing with parody items. It's called the fair use act, which allows these items to be made. Tektek, on the other hand, directly used Gaia's IP, while trying to turn a profit for another site. Understand that difference.

Now, as for all the stuff you could do there:

Dream Avvie creator: The dressing room has a search option, and while you cannot use multi pose directly, you can if you own more than one of an item. To display the avvie, keep ONE saved avvie slot open. You can use the IMG from that to share with others. Wanna save the avvie? Screen cap and make a list in notepad.

Value calculator: The site could use one of these, however, it's not impossible to do this yourself. You can have close accuracy just clicking the item and putting that abp into a calculator. Little bit of work never hurt anyone.

Gradient text generator: Here.

Bookmark it. And if you did your text in rainbows, go to hades. That stuff's annoying to everyone but you.

Profiles: There is a whole custom profile forum, with freebie and such on site. Go look it up. Peeps there do better ones that tektek ever had.

Quest bars: there's mini shops that will do those for you, or you can do a text one that is more reliable.

Item look up: Guides and resources forum, site Q&A, and sometimes just asking others. Interaction will not kill you, I promise.

Toolbar: There are actually a couple of firefox extensions that work far better for that purpose, and I know lots of folks can point in the right direction for those.

Tektek was sorely behind on many of it's features, and with tekton focusing on his own site, as he should, it's time we learned to move away from it.

The reaction I have seen on the forums has ranged from spoiled to down right disrespectful, and has been somewhat shameful for the most part. If you cannot function on this site without what were broken tools, then you are doing it wrong.

Learn to use this site properly, and you might find it's well worth a little effort to get to know it better.

I agree.

While I haven't used tektek in a while, I used to frequent it back when I first started. I don't think it's the end of the world (or Gaia), but some people are really blowing it up.

I used the inventory value feature a lot, it organized my specific inventory into highest current worth and lowest current worth.

Wow, thank you for the informative post. I have to say, I feel pretty ridiculous that I never really registered that you could search while in your inventory for all items, not just the ones you own... sweatdrop

Right, you can do everything without Tektek, it's just incredibly inconvenient.

Which is why I said the site could use a similar feature.

How ever, it is no where near needed to enjoy Gaia.

As I like to tell folks, if you are solely focus on how much you are worth, you lose sight of what Gaia is really good for.

Meeting new and interesting folks and making that connection.

The inventory worth thing is about the only thing that'd be a pain in the a** for most users to do. But even that wasn't 100% accurate in terms of actual item worth.

Many a time I'd use that feature and get told some item was like eleventy bajillion gold, and was really like...10b. I mean really, it had bugs, but it gave a good idea on things.

That's probably the main thing I'll miss from tektek. The rest of it...well like it was pointed out plenty of alternative methods to be found/used/implemented.

And if THOSE don't work, then google for what you're looking for, who knows you might find something else you like/is what you're wanting.

Honestly I stopped using tek-tek a long time ago. Once Gaia added it's own search function to the dress up page I didn't visit much after that. Sure I'd check my invo value for fun every so often but that was about it.

Thank you for this, Rids! ouo I'm sad that Tektek's gonna go, I used it primarily for character references and contests, but I guess I can do that in other ways. (Even if it means begging the internet for male doll makers that don't suck)
