And yeeesss I just love the direction the plot has been going and I love how the writer(s) (reaper??? I know she draws them but does she write them too?) actually seem to care and GINO COMING INTO HIS BADASSNESS AND ACCEPTING HIS LEGACY and JOHNNY PROTECTING HIM FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE OR SOMETHING??? and juST SO MUCH GAMBINOLICIOUS GOODNESS sbhjikukyjhgetwy

I think that those with unfinished business in this world cannot pass on to the afterlife. My guess is that after his death, Gambino's heart is not yet at ease; he was still concerned about his son as he was 10 years ago (expressed in Gaia's early manga where he wanted G-Corp to develop a serum that would make Gino a very strong heir). So it's likely that he left his gravestone to stay around with Gino to see if he needs help. Fatherly love, you know.

ugh i seriously... just, gino ugh so proud of the kid gosh ugh.. i'll be the first to admit that johnny was kind of a s**t dad, like having such a powerful figure as a father would ******** a kid up regardless but especially being treated as gino was, the boy was fighting an uphill battle in terms of like, having any level of self-worth or like being a generally well-adjusted individual or like, being?happy? and now he's gotta deal with, like, not ******** knowing that his dad died until like weeks or smth after the fact at least but damn if he ain't figurin his s**t out. like. it's safe to say that he's gonna have a p hearty case of ptsd after all this.. well, probably already did so just throw this s**t with nyx and like being a godly dude on the pile tbh but! look at him all standin up for himself and his friends! acting independently of what his d**k of a dad wanted but just because it's the right thing to do and people are counting on him, not expecting of him, ugh! ugh. god i hope this doesn't get supernatural'd cos this is some character development i'd really like to see stick

still figurin how i feel abt ghostbino tho. like. great to see the light of my life back in action even as a ghost (tho i do actually think he needs to stay dead, honestly hoo boy how's that for a tone shift but like) and i...feel like this act could really help gino's continued grieving process prob gonna be a lingering thing, what with this Legacy and s**t like. the reminder is literally always gonna be there but to maybe not have the most recent memory of johnny being him being a real s**t dad? idk. idk! idk. i'm p removed from the plot at this point sadly, my database of knowledge has been moved to the back of the warehouse to make room for completely pointless undertale trivia now so it's all a little hazy but like. hopefully i'm not hugely misreading anything hhh

Yeeeah, s**t's pretty ******** and while one type of abuse is not "better" than another I'm just glad he at least has the capacity to strike out on his own and do the whole "hole up with deadbeat acquaintance/stow away on an airship/become a deity of some sort" personal journey s**t, like, I know how it feels to be able to do nothing for yourself because you're bound by shoelaces and you have so little muscle that it feels like chains.

But yeah, like, I feel like ghostbino is a spiritual thing more than his actual...spirit? Like, it's his legacy (both mortal and titanic) combined with his benevolent feelings that he never appropriately expressed, combined with Gino's own feelings, or something, and all it's gonna do is just give Gino this epiphany/strength and he's not gonna talk or anything.

Although I wouldn't object to a final panel that ends with Gino thinking he hears a very faint "BWAHAHAHA" in the distance.

brb holy s**t i have to draw this, idk why this thought is so funny to me just. idk the implication that he's still running around out somewhere out there, presumably in the wilderness now since everyone thinks he's dead, just schemin' away for funsies. possibly in the nude because who needs clothes when you're free in nature and no longer bound by societal expectations. holy ******** lmao

firstly, no real is too real when it comes to story analysis, we're always processing through our own lens that's shaped by experience (hence my recent tone shift away from being a cringe-worthy johnny-apologist... still a fan, still a big fan, just of him as a character, definitely not him as a guy). totally cool if s**t hits too close to home tho, can drop that topic. im rootin' for u tho, u know where to find me if u got no one to talk to. ♥

i like that idea on ghostbino (add that as a character to the gaia wiki. is that still a thing?), that it's more like...an energy, not a full-on spirit. anything more would be pretty heavy-handed i think.
...except that last panel u just pitched tbh like. if anybody with any sway reads this then pls. it's what the people want.

also i fckin will tell ur parents, gimme an email i'll kick an a** i'll kick 2 a** i'll kick my own a**, idc i got an apartment full of barely functioning adults myself included and i'll kick whosever a** i gotta to . idk defend anyone's right to be a barely functioning adult?i've got a case here i promise

nononooo nobody talks to my parents, then they'll know I talk about them. Plus, their heads are as thick as Johnny's wallet. If my therapist can't get a word through their heads, no way you could, even if it wouldn't probably maybe have a chance of ruining my life. But I appreciate the intent! biggrin

the question being, though, is this actually the ghost of johnny gambino? or is it more... mm, i don't quite have the words to convey what i'm trying to. my thought is, is this 100% johnny or is it, in part, "summoned" by gino?

Well, know that the Gambino family is descended from the Gaia god that represented Ambition. So if that ghost we're seeing doesn't display the same behavior as Johnny, then my final assumption is that the ghost is the spirit of Ambition that just happened to materialize into this world through Gino.

anyway tho it's more of a, small peek into just how distant father and son probably were i still hold that most of the actual raising of gino was passed off to nannies until he was school age, then during summers edmund would do what he could while he was around but otherwise it was bruno and the rest of the mansion-level staff.

the set-up: edmund, a man of empathy, harasses johnny k to take an interest in his damn son, to involve himself in gino's hobbies and do some father-son bonding. gino's the artsy type, though, and johnny's main and only hope for gino (short of, y'know, living to achieve it probably...hopefully) is financial success, which we all know art is not the most dependable road to that end and johnny's like '******** that'. so he 'compromises' (lol) and instead 'involves' gino in his hobbies by way of a "come with me, son, we're going to the lab" and no other explanation, to anyone, completely missing the point.

so you've got johnny k going around getting reports from the labtechs, waiting (im)patiently for gino to express any sort of curiosity or interest in anything... gino, meanwhile, has no ******** clue what's going on or what's expected of him, and so is just kinda awkwardly there, listening in but not understanding much because he's probably like 12 or something and half these people have their doctorates, waiting for anyone to tell him what's supposed to be going on. and the poor labtechs have to deal with a surprise visit from the big boss and report in without time to prepare or clean up or anything, unsure whether to greet gino who they definitely know of but have never actually met save maybe once for some of them, and they can clearly see how little the kid wants to be there

and this goes on for like an hour, johnny occasionally glancing expectantly down at his son when someone shares progress that, to him, is almost groundbreaking, but to anyone not him or his employees, means zilch, until they've seen everyone, and go back home and johnny sends gino off for maybe lunch or whatever the kid does around this time, johnny disappointed and frustrated, gino confused as all hell, and that's the end of father-son bonding probably.

Correct! I miss the days when waiting for a manga update was like waiting for a new segment to be released in a shoujo magazine. You had to wait a whole month or whatever but when it got updated it was like ten pages. Plenty to talk about, plot moved at a fair pace, yadda yadda.

I'm well Casper! I've just been being an adult with a 401(k) & crap so I've been missing my Gaian indulgences, hahaha

You're probably spot on re: Gino's childhood. Ugh, the angst. Ugh, the lack of understanding. Boy am I glad we're past that & Gino's grown so much. He'll always need our support, but he REALLY needed our support back then!
