Located South West of Barton Town, the Bright Valley Petting Zoo is filled with an assortment of animals from all over Gaia. Open to visitors from 11 AM to 7 PM Monday through Saturday with occasional special hours in times of high profile animal births, Bright Valley's 20 acres are a constantly shifting landscape of wildlife and farmland.

Founded 200 years ago when the last head of the Cesrum family willed his family's land to the Temple of Falis in Barton Town, Bright Valley's secondary purpose is to supply produce to Barton's Temple to be consumed by it's inhabitants and the hundreds that depend on the church's soup kitchens for meals.

Bright Valley's buildings consist of a central Farm House in which the current head of the conservatory, Father Pirsan Cothmith, resides along with any other employees. Several rooms have been set aside within the large house for travelers heading north to Barton or Durem from Barton Trench or any other corner of Gaia.

The entire compound is fenced with a single entrance gate for visitors and deliveries. The gravel entrance road leads directly to the Farm House and encircles it and from this primary road branches all other paths to the different sections of the petting zoo.

Signs line the entrance road directing visitors to the Farm House for admission into the zoo, the rules of the establishment clearly marked on several of them in various languages. The zoo itself is situated between the entrance and the Farm House, though access within the pens is only allowed through specific gates which employees will open for patrons that have registered at the Farm House. Behind the Farm House are the restricted access pens and the farmlands, whose acreage is only accessible by Bright Valley employees or members of the Temple of Falis's Council of Elders.

For security purposes, the entire premises is under video & magical surveillance.

gaia_angelleft Animals

Bright Valley has a number of permanent resident species, but also has a number of temporary residents, the owners seeking to house their more dangerous or exotic pets outside of Barton and away from the public eye. On occasion, patrons may allow their animals to be viewed by others – though more often then not, no one other than Bright Valley employees and the pet owner is allowed inside the pen.

Patrons interested in temporary boarding of their animals may contact Bright Valley via telephone, video call, e-mail, fax or magical messaging for more details.

gaia_angelleft Permanent Animal Residents

Artists willing to draw animal art are much loved~! ♥

    • Armadillo Cows
Bright Valley's most famous animals, the Armadillo Cows that inhabit the zoo have been bred to be nigh impervious to all attack and have an extremely nutritious milk, extra rich in calcium. Curling up into balls when threatened, the Armadillo Cow's hide is rumored to be able to withstand nuclear blasts.

In the petting zoo, we have a number of baby Armadillo Cows for young Gaians to pet and several adult cows on display with handlers available to teach children how to milk them.

    • Pipe Foxes
A pair of Pipe Foxes were given to Bright Valley by a caravan in thanks for providing a single nights room and board and the colony that exists now are all descendants of the original pair. Affectionate and fun, the Pipe Foxes are kept in a large atrium so that they don't fly away and always swarm patrons that enter it inquisitively, sniffing and inspecting them to satisfy their curiosity.

Very magical beings and deemed as bringers of good luck, the Pipe Foxes of Bright Valley are a great first animal to bring any shy youngsters to pet.

    • Gelatinous Cubes
True to their name, Bright Valley's Gelatinous Cubes are squares of sentient jelly. They come in an assortment of colors and when angry, can grow up to two times their size and can engulf a full grown man. The jelly cubes available for petting are all adolescents and too small even when angry to engulf a man and would only rise to one's knee. The animals available to the public are the most temperate ones that often attempt to squelch around the legs of the patrons petting them in affection, not attack.

Their secretions are a variety of fruity flavors depending on their color.

    • Ducks
The petting zoo houses all manner of Ducks, with a range of ducklings available for petting while supervised by a Bright Valley employee.

    • Landsharks
Remaining burrowed under the ground the majority of the day our colony of Landsharks are one of the tame breeds of the species, domesticated across Gaia for tilling the soil and searching for buried treasure. Their skin is rock hard and white, specifically on their faces, which allows them to easily 'swim' through the ground with each powerful thrust of their tail.

Bright Valley's Landsharks love to be petted and reside in a shaded den so that their sun sensitive skin is not exposed overlong.

Inside the Farm House

Seated patiently on a booster seat, a four year old girl swung her legs and peered over the massive wooden desk before her, bright blue eyes focused on the sky outside the open double doors longingly.

"I want to play~♫ But I have to watch the desk~♪ So I hope people come by and visit~♬"

The child hummed variations of her impromptu song and swayed side to side, wondering when Pirsan would walk by and take over so she could play with the big yellow birds the cleric had called Chocobos that had arrived in the morning.

"Tho-ho-hose birds~♫ Are so cool~♪ I want to ride one into the sunset~♬"

Hopefully someone would come by and visit. Illy was getting awfully lonely.

A herd of armadillo cows were grazing.

Fluffy Codger

Clack.

Clack.

Clack.

The sound of a wooden crutch being pressed against packed Earth and gravel, the youth holding the crutch on his good right leg as he kept his bandaged left leg off the ground. He also wore a sling on the left arm, more to keep his arm to his chest to prevent him from tearing open his back wound then to keep his undamaged arm safe.

He was clearly uncomfortable with the crutch, but the GTB hopeful proved quite resilient. Going to visit a damn petting zoo after only just recovering. James, affectionately called Bear by friends and fans alike limped toward the farm house, hoping to get admittance so he could frolic with the Panda, or something.

He entered the Farm House carefully, peering at the small girl at the counter sort of blank faced. James was slightly confused to see a child at the main desk.

"Uh...Yeah. Can I get admittance?"

What else could he say?

Clack.

Clack.

Clack.

Visibly brightening as she heard someone approach Illy nearly jumped onto the desk when she saw James, her miniature features oozing happiness at the sight of a customer and ending her terrible boredom.

"Hello Mister! Welcome to Bright Valley Petting Zoo and Farm! How can I help you today?" Enunciating the words carefully in a way that made it obvious she'd rehearsed them the little girl beamed and readjusted the "ILLY" name tag on her little dress carefully.

Aguentar Bjorn Kearney
"Uh...Yeah. Can I get admittance?"

"Of COURSE Mister! Can you just fill out this form here please?" Pushing a sheet of paper and a pen toward him, the little girl grabbed a bright pink highlighter and marked two places where he was to sign.

"The rules are posted everywhere but if you have any really scary weapons or explosives and stuff that could hurt our SUPER COOL pets then you have to leave them here okay? And if you really want to keep them on you then you have to get special permission." She couldn't SEE anything on him that looked scary... So hopefully she wouldn't have to call Pirsan.

"Also if you break our rules then you'lll get kicked out. And if you don't leave then you'll have to see our big scary thing that'll make you leave." Nodding gravely as she opened a drawer and pulled out a card on a lanyard, Illy would wait until James finished signing the form before giving him a pass.

"Today is special and you don't have to pay anything! So please have fun and play nice with the animals okay?"

Fluffy Codger

BLAH BLAH BLAH!

She was cute, but she was sort of annoying.

He just smiled and nodded, his normally huge ego deflated by her overly cute attitude. Drawing the pen into his chest pinned hand he loosed it from the sling and signed the few spots, and then took the pass if it was offered. He scratched his head a bit and shrugged, sliding his arm back into the sling.

"What sort of animals live here? I want something that can entertain me!"

He genuinely smiled, but not for any real reason. He was just really bored of sitting in a Hospital and the idea of playing with some cute but obscure animal sounded relatively fun. Sure, it wasn't go to the gym and roll, but it was something yeah?

"Got anything really playful?"

He expected the girl to go running off and ask him to follow, she seemed the type. If he was a *****, this would be a good day. Sadly, he wasn't.
Pantpantpant.

A great and terrible beast plodded along the road. His footsteps shook the earth, death and rot on his breath. His very presence was enough to send armies scattering to the four winds, never to come back if they wanted to keep their lives.

With tongue lolling from his mouth, Mortimer plopped down directly behind James, panting happily.
Taking his form and putting it on what looked like a scanner, the machine buzzed, whirred and let out some white sparks as the child pressed several colorful buttons, her tiny hand passing him the lanyard afterward.

Aguentar Bjorn Kearney
"What sort of animals live here? I want something that can entertain me!"

"Everything here is really en-ter-tain-ing Mister!" She slowed over the large word, mulling over it for a moment before she continued.

"I really like the Landsharks. If they're in a playful mood they might bring you underground for a second!" While that may have sounded like something scary, Illy was a Gaian child. One must understand their definition of "playful" is skirting on suicidal most of the time.

With James now having access to the general pens, Illy swayed side to side in her seat... then finally noticed the newest arrival.

"OHMYGOSHDOGGIE!" Scrambling over the desk and jumping down next to James, Illy hugged the great dane around the neck excitedly, her tiny body exuding the copious amounts of joy that only an innocent child could.

Fluffy Codger

"L-land sharks?!"

James hoped he hadn't heard that right. He did not want to pet land sharks. He barely survived his last encounter with some stupid angry monster man thing. He didn't need to ******** with sharks on land. As a giant ******** dog came up behind him he turned and faced it.

He might have leaned down and pet it if it wasn't for the fact leaning would be impossible on one leg.

"Cute dog, is it yours...Umm."

Think think think, James. THINK!

"Illy?"

Yeah, that is what her little name tag said.

He hoped.

After asking he leaned back on his crutch slightly, mulling over the idea of just going to see land sharks. It was an interesting prospect, really. He just didn't really want to be eaten after recovering so valiantly. It would be a terrible ending to his obviously GRAND story.
