Dankin
"Hey there, Tyro!", Dankin called from behind the counter. "Long time no see! Boy, you look bushed!"

User Image

Tyro smiled a weak grin.

"You can say I've been using a lot of big brain energy..." When Tyro was tired her normally extensive vocabulary could be rather lacking. She was trying to say she's been thinking and planning a lot...but it just didn't work out right.

"I see you got some extra help around here. Some folks you met during mercenary work or something...? Or this Coffee thing turning into your full time job?"

Dankin
User Image "Hiya hiya, koala!", Mana chirped. "Chompy is gonna take your order soon, kay?"

"Yeah yeah...Sure..." Tyro waved off Mana.

She wasn't attempting to be rude to her friend's...uh...What was Mana exactly? Pet? Minion?

"...Thanks, floating thing."

Arashisora
The Zurg's stunned expression earlier had caught Ara off-guard and, with a pang of guilt, reminded her that she was not here for fun —at least, not initially! No matter how long the Solstice celebrations dragged on outside, the time for returning to her usual haunts was growing near. One could only ignore the call of the seas for so long and, although she smiled, on the inside she felt about how Tyro looked.

"Hey there, what's the latest, Newz?" Ara approached the table with a soft smile and addressed Tyro by nickname for the sake of the pun. Tyro loved puns, under normal circumstances. Brave little Mana was trying to train Mr. Chompy to wait tables so Ara kept back a little to allow them more room...

Tyro did appreciate the pun. Her smile widened.

"Ha ha, hey Ara...There's a lot of news out there...But I'll wait to share the latest once I put in my order. I can barely put my thoughts together right now."

"Ha ha, hey Ara...There's a lot of news out there...But I'll wait to share the latest once I put in my order. I can barely put my thoughts together right now."

Ara nodded, knowingly —her friend's laconic demeanor was of no particular villainous origins. She would wait patiently while Tyro took one thing at a time and use the opportunity to give her own brain a rest as well.

Dankin

"Perhaps, you'd like to supervise from over here, Koala?" Ara suggested, mindful to keep the autographed doughnut out of reach of the hovering koala kin.

Cara ver Hold

What brought him to Gaia? Sometimes Cor asked himself that very same question. But one thing was certain - he was searching for something. A clue to his bloodline? Ancient treasures? Thrill of the adventure? Maybe a bit of all three? He'd have to get back to Cara on that one. Luna's delighted yips, also agreeing with the idea of being taken home with Cara, thankfully refocused the brunette soldier's thoughts. "Traitor," Cor comically huffed under his breath. As they continued to chat he suddenly realized how much he really didn't know and sincerely gave his full attention. Fascinating! A small tilt of the head, a nod now and again in understanding. From Cara's explanation he was able to follow along more or less. "My thanks to you for enlightening me. Quite interesting I must admit."

The brunette soldier paused for a moment to regather his thoughts. If Cara was trusting to share such information with him, the least he could do was confirm her assumption. "You're correct - I'm on a 'mission' you could say," There was a brief glint behind violet hues while the smirk on the corner of his lips appeared again. "On a mission for what exactly.. I can't even say right now. Once I figure it out I'll let you know. Have to admit though Luna and finding this place.. meeting you and the others here, definitely not part of the initial plan."

everyone coming and going within the cafe

Only because that no fights broke out or no one was causing trouble, Cor didn't get overly anxious or go on the defence like a cornered beast. Since arriving on the shores of Gaia he's seen creatures not found in his homeland and beings of amazing diversity. And as long no danger comes upon Luna than no one will have to face a protective 'papa Cor'. On the outside he looked as if keeping his cool while munching on the last crumbs of his doughnut treat.

[NPC] Mr S. Chompy

As soon as the outlaw pup spotted Chompy her beady eyes widened in awe. While bugging Cara for more affective attention she waved her paws playfully in the air as if saying 'yay fishy! Come play fishy'. Luna loved being on her backside in Cara's lap while able to see mostly everything going on around them.
Arashisora

Catching sight of Ara in her triumphant state, Cara would quickly and quietly clap with restrained excitement for the sea-lady, wiggling in her seat some but not enough to disturb the pup that was blissfully enjoying her lap while waving happily towards the floating shark.

Dankin

Cara snickered with delight when both Cor and Dankin shared a mutual sense of betrayal from their animal companions. For Dankin, it was the fact that Mana had the gall to enjoy a cup of coffee from Mr S. Chompy’s café while Luna simply wanted nothing more than to bask in Cara’s affections for as long as puppily possible. When he thanked her for the explanation she gave him concerning her dhampiric heritage, she would smile brilliantly towards the soldier and nod back. “No problem! If you have any other questions, don’t be afraid to ask.”

It was a sincere offer, as Cara was perhaps more than trusting. She was an open book. Sure, her family name was notorious where she came from. While it started out with a good reputation back during the rise and fall of the undead insurrection, that reputation become more and more tarnished over the generations. She could very well keep all of that a secret and attempt to start a new life in Gaia; running away from her family problems and building herself a better life where no one knew her name.

But that was more or less a coward’s way out, in her personal opinion. Cara was determined to build up her family’s reputation by saving their hometown from financial ruin. And working in Gaia was going to help her reach her goals. She was a woman on a mission, fueled by determination, a bit of stubbornness, and a boat-load of goodwill. She already got a job and making friends who were appreciative of her efforts. As far as she was concerned she was off to a good start, and hiding or falsifying anything about who she was would only hinder her resolve.

Running her fingers through Luna’s fur some more, she would glance up towards Cor as he spoke about his mission. Well, what he felt was a mission. Cara smirked a bit when he admitted that he wasn’t entirely sure what that mission specifically was. “Plans are all nice and dandy, but they never work out the way you expect them,” she said honestly. “Besides, isn’t there some kind of saying that states that it’s the journey that’s better than the destination?” Or something along those lines. She was never really good with quotes. “It’s a good thing you found your way here to us. Finding Luna meant you had someone to make sure you got the attention you needed. Arriving here found you a safe place to rest. And meeting the rest of us guaranteed that you survived your injuries,” she pointed out with a gentle smile, though her humble gaze seemed to rest upon the ball of fluff that was sprawled about her lap. “You’re now able to continue your journey and figure out your mission. Just remember to allow some flexibility for the unexpected in your plans next time,” she suggested with a wink.

Moon was greeted by a rather tall and quite good looking man. From the way he carried himself, Moon got the feeling he is a man of a strong personality.

Dankin
"Chocolate mug cake?", Dankin replied. "I mean it's off-menu, but I could whip something up for you real quick."

Upon hearing this, Moon was elated. He then ordered his flying koala assistant to prepare his order and returned attending to his shark apprentice. Moon was a bit surprised and curious whether Mana is up to the task. She watched as small creature struggled to bring the dessert to her table. She was about to stand up and helped it but Mana proved to be so good at the job, the dessert successfully landed at the table. Moon let out a breath of relief and smiled at the koala.

Quote:
"Here you go, koala!", Mana said as he layed the mug on the table, "Anything else I can do, koala?"

Moon quickly realized she felt a bit dehydrated. "Uhh yes, may I have a cup of match and cold water, please?"

As she was about to dig in into the cake, she noticed a woman in a shimmering blue dress not far from her seat. Her beauty is other-worldly, it's very hard to describe it, but Moon kinda got the feeling that she's not from this area. Moon was astonished when the lady requested the enormous shark to bite her donut. She witnessed as the shark successfully bit the donut.

"Wow! You don't see that every day", Moon said as she gave an round of applause for that spectacle.

Moon shifted her attention to the chocolate cake again. She would usually wait for the drinks to arrive but the smell of chocolate is so enticing. She took a bite of it and it was so heavenly. The cake is moist and a little bit creamy.

As she was processing the taste of the cake, she accidentally heard the conversation of these people.

A soldier with a cracked, dry red bottom lip, suture scars on and above his flat pink upper lip, tiny brown spots under his big brown eyes, a brush of light brown hair on his head, a bulbous tanned nose with a narrow bridge, a red headband covering his eyebrows, dressed casually for the fall season in a black tee with a white star on the front of it, bleached white jeans ripped at the knees, brown dress shoes and a long, flowing angelic scarf which stayed off the chilly breeze put a scarred heavy hand out to reach a door and, a few agonizing moments later, found himself inside a coffee shop in Barton Town just at the onset of dusk one early October night. He clutched the left side of his head with the other hand, wrapped in gossamer like the right hand, going momentarily blind thanks to a horrible migraine headache, and as his eyes adjusted to the glowing light

O God I hope they do not throw me back out on the street when they see the sword

Almost staggering forward, he put his open hands out to catch himself, wondering what would happen once the annoying white sparks blossoming in his vision ceased to haunt him.

Chompy tried his best to play it cool, but it was hard to hide how very pleased he felt to be lavished with attention. He could have had no way of knowing, when he started his day, that someone would be excitedly requesting his autograph. He felt quite grateful to Ara for her kind interest in his person...er..shark.

And so, in conrast, the weary zurg's seeming lack of interest in his presence seemed all the more glaring. But in spite of Chompy's small vanities, he understood that not everything could be about him. He hoped that if he could not provide entertainment, he could at least offer a friendly ear.

Although he had just asked the ever-friendly koala creature for help, Chompy couldn't help but be distracted by the adorable playful pup who was reaching for him with her paws. "And I hope you don't mind either that I'm interrupting your time with this cutie little puppy wuppy woo woo, Miss Cara," he added with a polite nod.

Before either Cor or Cara could answer, Chompy was once again distracted. This time, by the enticing aroma of the chocolate mug cake sitting in front of Moon. He found himself drifting against his will over towards Moon and the decadent dessert. "Say, might I try just the tiniest bite of that?"

Dankin

Chompy realized with a start that he had completely lost track of what he was supposed to be doing. "Ahem, boss?" he said, turning back to his mentor, "How do you stay on task when there's always so much afoot?" Chompy seemed genuinely distressed at the thought that he might not have what it takes...

Although the Zurg guest had no intention of appearing rude, Mana puffed up his cheeks in frustration.
He could tolerate poor manners from Dankin, but the fact that Tyro not only waved him away dismissively, she had no idea who he was.
When she opted instead to extend her manners to the new assistant Chompy, he couldn't help but turn his large nose into the air in disgust.

She had decided to order a couple of beverages at last and now Mana's duties would have to resume despite the frustration in his heart.

User Image "Dankiiiiiin ~ ", Mana called over. "One Matcha tea and a water over here please, koala!"

"No problem!", Dankin called back from behind the counter.

He quickly set to work brewing the tea and removed a bottle of cold still water from the fridge beneath the counter.
After he had prepared the cup and layed the bottle along with a fresh glass on a serving tray, he presented the order to Mana who had arrived to collect it.

"Hang in there, bud.", Dankin said to Mana kindly beneath his breath.

And just like that, the small fire in Mana's heart was slightly rekindled thanks to the encouraging words of his master.
He took off carefully with the tray in his paws and delivered the drinks to the table where Moon was seated.
He gave a small bow to her before taking his leave with the now empty serving tray.

Chompy called out, "Mana, dear friend, would you be so kind as to take the lead? I don't want to overwhelm our lovely zurg customer when she's already in such a state."

Mana was now back in the proximity of Tyro and Chompy once more and he heard the shark ask for some assistance with his first table-side order.

Mana liked Chompy, so he decided to oblige his call for aid and take control of the situation.
Luckily he had heard what Tyro had ordered a moment ago; he was nothing if not a diligent waiter.

User Image "Sure Chompy, koala.", he said as he fluttered closer. "She wanted a peppermint tea, right? We just gotta call that in for Dankin and he'll get it ready, koala. It's as easy as that, koala!"

Mana then turned to Dankin and called out another order.

User Image "Dankin, one pepper--", he started.

"Peppermint tea, coming up!", Dankin interrupted. "I'm already on it!"

Dankin had been observing Chompy and his progress from a distance and had already begun brewing a cup of peppermint tea for the mint coloured Zurg.
It would seem that Mana was not the only diligent worker in the café.

Mana gave a sigh of relief.

Once Dankin had finished brewing the cup of tea, he carried it with confidence on a saucer and presented it to Tyro at her table personally.

"Here you go, Tyro.", Dankin said with a smile. "Hope this perks you up a little!" wink

"Ahem, boss?" he said, turning back to his mentor, "How do you stay on task when there's always so much afoot?" Chompy seemed genuinely distressed at the thought that he might not have what it takes...

Dankin smiled and gave a nod of understanding to Chompy.
He knew well the hectic and overwhelming nature of working in the service industry.

"It's a rough gig sometimes, Chompy.", Dankin said with a sympathetic grin. "It's hard to stay on task with so many customers. That's where the perk of working in a coffee shop comes in!"

Unnoticed by Mana, Dankin had also brought a small cup of espresso with him on his journey to Tyro's table.
He offered it out to Chompy.

"This should keep you going!", Dankin said as he placed the shot on an empty table nearby. "Down the hatch!" biggrin

Dankin then wandered back behind his counter to tidy away some used cups and saucers.
Mana floated where he was and gave a concerned look in Dankin's direction.
He was unsure if it would be folly to feed a shark caffeine.

The Goddamn Clash

As Dankin went about cleaning, he heard the bell at the door sound and looked over to see another customer enter.

Oddly enough it was another dishevelled looking young man.
Another injured soldier in fact.

Dankin felt as though he were experiencing déja vu. It was only a few weeks ago that a similar event had occurred in his café and indeed that young soldier and their hound had become frequent visitors as a result of that strange misadventure.

He wondered if people had been confusing his café with some kind of medical centre, but he shrugged off the silly notion and called over to the young man.

"Hey pal, you okay over there?", he shouted over concerned.

Dankin
This should keep you going!

As Dankin delivered an espresso to the delightful Mr. Chompy, Ara suddenly put her free hand to her forehead, recalling the iced coffee she'd left sitting on the counter.

Shaking her head, Ara made to retrieve it —pausing for just a moment, should Mr. Chompy request any assistance with his drink. The great shark was, after all, bravely endeavoring to function in a world that had been built without his fins in mind —and, all without the use of magic or illusion beyond that which kept him afloat! He was truly an inspiration to sea creatures everywhere.

"You're doing a marvelous job, Sir." Ara reassured the humble shark, "This is the most action this café has seen in...in..." She couldn't quite grasp how much time had passed. Hours? Days? Weeks? "In some time." She finished, lamely.

"Right, Dankin?" Ara grinned at the man clearing away dishes as she hastily downed the bitter beverage she'd abandoned before.

The Goddamn Clash

At that moment, another customer stumbled through the door. Unlike with No-Name Charming —who was currently sitting next to Cara, giving Luna a look of deep betrayal as the wolf pup reveled in the attentions she was receiving— Ara could not determine any scent of physical injury on the newcomer. 'Too much Solstice Sun to the brain, perhaps' Ara though, as Dankin inquired whether or not the new customer was alright.

Moonlight Crystals

As Ara bid thanks and handed her empty cup back to Dankin with every intention of returning to check on Tyro, an almost familiar sight —or, was it an almost familiar scythe?— caught her eye. Pausing by the table of the woman eating mug cake, she introduced herself.

"I don't mean to bother you. I'm Ara." Ara waited for a response before inquiring, "Is that a harp? It's lovely! Do you play?"

Quietly tapping away at it's keys...
She opened it's browser to a very familiar forum page.

-YAWWWN-

The yawn was way louder than she intended. She tried to cover her mouth with her free hand and failed. Hushing herself up, she briefly read over the thread's contents before putting the phone back into her pocket.

Tyro had known Dankin for a very long time. Many years. But there was a time they didn't chat as frequently. It was in this timeframe she presumed he had adopted the cotton ball of fluff, Mana? Her brows furrowed. She honestly didn't know if Dankin and Mana had met sooner than that or not. Tyro wasn't the type to ask about people's personal lives.

OOC: It's a bit of a writing challenge for me to write stuff for Tyro. She's just such a weird character.

I guess the only thing worth mentioning here is that the only reason she knows about what just happened with Mana is that she took a glance at the thread on her phone. lol She can break the fourth wall in a very limited manner...But otherwise she cannot really do anything else super impressive. sweatdrop

I find it super funny that she's willing to break the fourth wall to find out a flying koala's thoughts about her but has 100000% hesitation asking a friend about the most basic sort of conversation topic...Pets. lol Like she could've LITERALLY just asked Dankin in any conversation prior to this one about Mana...
The sparks in his vision eventually subsiding, the weary warrior got to his feet from a hard fall which brought him to his knees, dusting himself off as he heard a bell ring, announcing his entrance to what he now dimly recalled from the sign on the front of the shop as being a place called Dankin's Cafe.

He removed the sweat-saturated headband on his brow and stuffed it into the pocket on the left side of his jeans, running a hand through oil-slick, matted tousles of hair grown to just above ear length, unkempt and a little scraggly from lack of a recent wash.

He looked around the vicinity, completely baffled by what he then saw: a shark, a green-skinned space alien-type woman, two people (a man and a woman) with purple eyes in mid-conversation, and a wolf among them, along with some others, including an armored Barton guard and a curious woman in blue who happened to be looking at him as he entered.

The young hunter regarded those before him with a haunting, wide-eyed stare.

"You might be?" he asked the seemingly concerned gentleman with the black hair, ignoring the instinctual itch to draw his sword, as he hoped the quaint little shop would turn out to be a peaceful place.
[NPC] Mr S. Chompy

Violet eyes widened as Mr S. Chompy ambled his way over to pet Luna, basically speaking in baby-talk towards the pup in her lap. Ok, a shark floating in mid-air was a little uncommon. A shark working in a café, very much out of the ordinary. A sharking speaking in baby-talk to the most adorable outlaw pup in the café…?! Cara’s mute expression was not out of fear of the toothy grin that she was faced with as Chompy politely expressed his desire to not interrupt her conversation with Cor while giving Luna some well-deserved pats. Oh no, Cara was doing everything in her power not to break out in laughter over how absurdly unbelievable the whole scenario turned out to be. Those violet hues would start to tear up as she gently shook her head and released a quiet chortle. “It’s no problem at all, sir,” she said with some amount of restraint so she didn’t go into a fit of snickers.

However, he and Ara both were soon distracted by the elegance and beauty of a woman with a majestic-looking harp-scythe, which intrigued the otherworldly woman…but not enough to voice the questions that filled Cara’s mind. Looking down at the outlaw pup in her lap, she glanced away once more as a bit of drama unfolded between Mana and the alien-like guest. Biting her lower lip, she was reminded that it was getting late, and if she lingered any longer both of her siblings would steal the ring of keys away that allowed her to come to Gaia. Just to keep her at home instead of allowing her to earn the platinum that she was certain would help pull her town’s economy out of the gutter.
mouse65

Standing up, she gave Luna a tender hug and a handful of gentle kisses before passing her off to Cor. “Please excuse me, but I believe it’s time I go face the music back home,” Cara said with a chuckle. “Until we meet again, sir,” she said with a wink before making her way to the café’s bathroom. Once beyond the threshold, she would use her magical key that opened the portal to her homeworld. Anyone attempting to follow her would find the bathroom void of any human life with no traces of the portal she used to return home.
