someone ALWAYS makes it sexual in some way and i am outta there

Yikes, lol, sorry! That might be me sometimes~ I have a serial killer for one of my OG characters, he can't help but be a dirty guy. My others are more chill on the sexual front though (I'm actually ace irl, but I gotta rp true to my character's personalities emotion_bigheart )

OG Gaian

I feel like people roleplay now in certain settings, like in D&D etc. I do remember when I used to roleplay online with friends or on Gaia randomly many years ago.

Because everyone will just block you for being in character constantly because big butthurt for no reason is big butthurt 3nodding

Aw, that's lame fr. The whole point is to be in-character. I play my characters 100% true to their psychology at all times; it is necessary. And I don't actually like to bs in the OOC much; I generally keep to myself when I'm not in-character. ninja

I like really specific things and with the dearth of RPers around now, just don't find it anymore.
if you mean specifically on gaia it's because the roleplay forum turned into a bunch of bafflingly elitist bullshit with insane requirments about formatting and long posts lengths and reference images and formatting and back in my day most of the tiem we did those littel walk-ins where you could just write at whatever effort level you felt liek in a casual setting

now it's like.... IDEK what it is now

I also feel liek peopel woudl just look for my posts and heckle me at this point lol

it still soudn sliek a fun way to practice writing but IDK if I even trust otehr peoepl to respect me or my characters or either of our boundaries and that also doesnlt soudn liek a good time

plus I type lik thsi now so I need a brave soldier to endure it because I dontl have the brainpower to go back and fix alllll these typos

I'm terrible at imaginative things so I never got into it. Even for training events @ work where we have to pretend to be in a situation do I severely struggle to get "in the mindset that this is real." It's made a lot of people mad when I stop mid-scenario to express hunger because "u WoUlDn'T bE HuNgRy If U gOt ShOt". (I probably would be) User Image

Hm. That's a hard one to argue. Staying true to the character's psychology in the moment is important to me, so I could see myself being frustrated by that too, lol. sweatdrop

I think I'm a slightly different flavor of roleplay geek than you... it does not compute gaia_zurg

Snowfriend

ʅ(◞‿◟)ʃ no clue. I’ve seen people say other have been pretty good at gatekeeping their RPs to outsiders so once it dies, it dies. Others say it’s a bit eclectic, like just write a story. I always get pulled into one with D&D but the campaigns always die cause of DMs cancelling or not enough people. For me, every RP ends up going south…slowly but surely.

I think roleplaying at large stopped because it became "cringe," and most people associate rps- especially forum rps- with like... themselves from 2004 and s**t cat_lol It didn't really pick up with a lot of the younger generations (from what I've seen), because of how fandom culture shifted.

Especially with social media, it can be really difficult to gain any sort of friends or following over your original characters or original worlds. As well as, like, a lot of things died during COVID because of the mental stress- which has only sort of really gotten worse? cat_sweatdrop

I think there are a lot of factors in why rping has started to die out. Especially its ties to cybering- most of the people you see "roleplaying" are the ones that get put on r/AsterisksRoleplay because they're cringe incels or never learned to speak with people one on one.

Personally, I would LOVE to rp, but I feel like, at large, I've always been the one handling the brunt of the creative decisions (usually by people who ACTUALLY want me to behave a certain way, but they won't just ******** say that). Also getting hella ghosted.

I've had my own rp server for close to four(?) years now, and it was only briefly active in the beginning of 2020 because I met a dude who was so obsessed with escapism that we could spend hours roleplaying back and forth. He turned out to be a passive control freak though, and ended up lashing out at most- if not all- of his friends and was just a ******** drain. Since then, I haven't been able to find a steady rp partner and every roleplay idea stops with "We should do this!" and then we don't.
