I think that you are over-reacting a bit here, but still there is some truth behind it... as the whole thing could be dealt on a better way! But nothing is as bad as you say it is and you end up twisting few things and say two different thing about some features.

And before saying thing about zOMG! being a paying feature, wait it's release... thats all I have to say!

I don't get the problem with SCAS and zETA... don't you want a glitch free and better done zOMG! ? So yeah too bad that the few number of admins can test the game fully so they need a large group of testers! Why we are so many? Because we also have to test how much the servers can handle without crashing and lagging!

Oh, unless you think that we will be able to keep our stuff? Oh, how unfair for... us... that we can't keep anything! We will start as any other Gaia will start the game when the time come, with nothing excluding the knowledge of the game, some friends and personal proud-ness that we accomplished something great.

Actually, there was a response in a Site Feedback thread about the MMO's Gaia Cash deal.

There will be items that will enhance playing the MMO but something about them being available through drops as well. And also the fact that they want something out of their labor as well. So, having some items being Gaia Cash exclusive for the MMO is not asking a lot versus making the whole game completely Gaia Cash exclusive. :3

this is a re-post

'04 user here.

okay, ill start off with agreement.
i completely agree with you on the fact that Gaia staff push us off to deal with later.
PERFECT EXAMPLE:
2 years ago, i actually managed to scrounge up enough gold to buy a g-blade from the marketplace. a month or so later, i got fooled into trading it away for a starter item (yes,i deserved it). i filed a report, and waited a couple of days for it to hopefully get taken care of. it never happened in a couple of days...and i eventually forgot about it.
almost exactly 8 months after that incident happened, i get a PM saying WE HAVE RETURNED YOUR ITEM. i open it up and it basically tells me that they "tracked down" my g-blade and have given it back to me. and that was cool and all, but what was at the end of the message kinda ticked me off.
"Sorry it took so long, we've been trying to make changes to the site, among other things, and we hope you will accept our dearest apologies."
and im sitting here like, "its cool that i got my item, but what the truck is this s**t?"
so yes, i agree on the fact that Gaia staff saves us for later

i would like to add that the way Gaia is with the new layout, is somewhat acceptable.
of course i miss the old days with the original layout, but as the users get older, so does the site. i actually thought the old layout was boring.

Rally was in need of an update, though the Big Wheel was pushing it, and the "magic wall" in the northern corner of the wheel room needs to be dealt with. and scripters in both Rally and Towns ******** piss me off to no end.

i believe Gaia is "sold out."
when Gaia started advertising things through items, they started with anime, which was acceptable because almost everyone was into anime at that time, then it led to some video games, which was also acceptable. but what started the "selling out" in my opinion, was when Gaia advertised The Last Mimzy. first of all, the movie was geared to a younger audience, and no mater where you went on Gaia, all you saw was the last mimzy ads.
what truly "sold out" Gaia was the ******** MTV Virtual Hollywood event, store and their version of Towns. that also pissed me off to no end.

another thing, when you initially sign up for Gaia, it tells you that if you are under the age of 13, please refrain from signing up. i wish people would listen to this, cause its really hard to try to get to know someone, when the other person is 6 years old, i swear to you that ******** happened to me. i felt like a ***** especially since im 17 turning 18 this year.

im not the only 04 user left, but im the only one so far to think that some of the changes were for the better. im actually getting tired of people saying, "I wish Gaia was like the old days."
most of these people are just plain xenophobes that wont stop whining about the old days.
in the old days in real life, gas was 25 cents a gallon, now its over 3 bucks...and guess what, people complain about it, but ultimately you're going to have deal with it eventually.

Seriously.

We're not even yelling or flaming people. It's not like we're not doing it in good manners either.

Either way, both sides of the argument in my opinion should be heard, but to drown out one side is to gain no understanding. No understanding, no middle ground as well.
I just wanted to say that I agree with EVERYTHING you have expressed in the OP.

I am crying so hard right now. I can't believe it has come to this. I have a Gaian since '03, and I am extremely, extremely depressed about the state of Gaia. This site is my LIFE. I have donated thousands...no, ZILLIONS of dollars to this site. I work at Continental Airlines in the call center. It is a very stressful job. When I come home from work, I pop open a beer, and go on Gaia to "realiscape". That means, escaping my reality, and creating my own.

Gaia almost stopped me from throwing my life away, but now all I want to do is cry and binge drink.

My created reality used to be so beautiful. Roleplaying, insightful discussions in the GD, surfing the clickable map of Gaia, voting in the avatar arena!!??

But now...it has been reduced to trolls, hackers, scammers, bots, clickable hacks, hackable clicks, jiminny cricket, cancelled trades, corrupt mods, flame wars and $10 pixels.

I wish life were more simple. I wish life was a breeze. Like it used to be. Like a family.

And why do my fish have to die?!

I don't think they are in drops, at least not presently in the tests, except one. But yeah, I saw those items and know what they do and, considering that it's the only cash items, nothing required to play and enjoy the game, not at all...! -close month to not leak- So yeah zOMG! is totally free except for those few items.

Hey, just saw that the original thread had been moved, which is a joke. Funny thing is...I was totally going to (semi-jokingly) say that it was on purpose because it happened when that Mod came on and everything went off topic. Coincidence? Not that there is solid proof for either yes or no, but "that happened on purpose" was exactly what first came to mind.

But really, I still support this 100%. Ya, there are still good points and ya, people need to get paid, but when you see stuff about catered lunches and the like, then I don't think there is any room to whambulance, so to speak, especially when there are so many problems. As I've seen someone say in another thread, why pay for something half-assed? (The side seems to be under the impression that if it isn't broke, then fix it, and if it IS broke, then leave it alone. Awesome logic there. *snorts*) Saying Gaia is a business and needs to make money is not even a viable justification for things like not fixing problems that need it, maintaining the features that the majority DOES like, and charging us real cash for items that expire. And no, Daily Chance doesn't count because I've gotten jack s**t from that.

Seriously, do you want other businesses to sell you sub-standard products/services/whatever? And would you justify that by saying they are a business that needs money so they can continue on because you like the products? Of course not! Ya some things are trial and error and ya, glitches happen, but you want a good product/service/etc. In this case we are dealing more with intellectual property and the time/effort put in by the developers, but that still does not justify the way a lot of this is executed. Admit the mistakes and move on and get rid of the stuff that doesn't work and keep the stuff that does. That is, after all, the way a ~good~ business should run, although I'm very skeptical of business. If you just sit back and don't at least complain a the very least regarding questionable tactics, then people are going to take advantage of that.

Unfortunately, this Myspace (aka Die-space) Facebook-y feel does not help.

Lastly, cash rather licks because it is hard to keep up with everything, and by the time it hits the MP, prices are ridiculously high, and no, we are not all lazy idiots who merely want stuff for free. It just gets out of hand.

Although that whole label feature...WHY? D=

You could really use a log program for Towns and VJ. What this could do is log EVERYTHING that is said within a certain range on Towns, VJ, Rally, Hills, etc. Then check the logs very frequently, and you'll be able to see everything that's been said. Those that break ToS will be banned like they deserve to be. You may already have something like this, but just not enough people reading it. I don't know. You could even make the program have filters that will only show sentences with the word cyber, free gold, etc., in them, to lower the amount that has to be read.

I thought I'd address some of the issues that are mentioned here.

When a user reports something in towns or any of the other areas mentioned their is a log provided with every report. We can see what has been said so those that do break the ToS are dealt with in the proper manner. The problem is that so many reports come in from all of these areas daily and we do not have the manpower to keep up with them all.

Also, for every legitimate report in Towns there are hundreds that have no violations at all. While it may not seem like these areas are being looked at by the moderation team that isn't the case. As for filters I can't see how that is needed. It isn't so much how long a report is that is the problem. It's how many there are as I've stated already. We know it's a big problem, we know that people want us to do more but we are human after all and we do try our very best.

We are always looking for new ideas on how to help this situation so if anyone has any please feel free to share them. 3nodding

I think alot of information in this petition is valid to a certain extent. Yes, gaia has done this, this, this.
But alot of it has been misinterpreted. I think this petition is inaccurate because you as a user are clearly biased against gaia's intentions, and have made various assumptions based on what you think is a good justification.

Gaia is providing us lots of features and new items, some of which involve new outlets of collecting funds in terms of real cash. And if you realise, those that involve taking cash out of user's pockets are never compulsary. It's like other free-to-play games out there such as Maple-story whereby users can still access the game but may pay if they want to to look cool. I think it's valid because after all gaia needs to pay its employees and meet its business objectives.

Then again, having been here since 04, I'm pretty disappointed by gaia's developments so far. It's turned into something very far off from the niche area that it catered to. MTV has managed to corrupt us once again. Dx

But since this petition doesn't represent a majority of my views, I shan't sign it. xDDD
sensory overload ensues
