xd Why does that dance always make me look like i have to pee? eek

I figured out why they believe the 2% tax would be effective, why it should work, and why it sometimes doesn't.

I miss the old Gaia, not about money or anything, but eveyrone was a community. I miss how I was taught to play by the nice users. I miss saving up.

Oh Gaia, you never seize to stop milking your users, is like they want every penny in our pockets. the zOMG ticket? bullshit I say.
lol i pitty the people who spend 25$+ a weekly/mothly on this shitty website to get something they only show off at some stupid online site lol
it wont be long for the the premium membership thing to come.

Gaia's new catch frase:

"Gaia, where you can either spend huge amounts hours posting to get an overpriced pixel or you can be cool like us and give us your cash to get those pixels in as little of 2 mons max! biggrin

edit@: oh! and !

******** you Craig!

Shirtless Friend

I've already signed this petition, but with the release of the political items, I just have to say Gaia's hit a new low in my book.
Money grubbing is one thing. Completely abandoning the kind of escapist roots this community thrives on to make a quick buck is something else entirely.

It makes me feel like I have to find a new place to get away from the world at. And that sucks.

Afraid of a sleeping puppy.

Reasons why it sometimes doesn't work: 1. People are greedy. Some of them will just up their prices to compensate for what they lose to the tax, 2. Some items, like the angelic halo, are so darn rare that there's no way those selling them are willing to part with them for anything resembling a reasonable amount of gold, even though they were bought for the same price as any other MCs. The value of stuff that in not damaged by time goes up over time anyway, even in real life; they're like antiques 3. No one likes it when they buy something in the marketplace for 30k, then go to sell it later and find the value has dropped to 12k because of the 2% tax actually working, so some people decide not to sell, which reduces supply, increases demand, and raises prices again. (I did take economics. I know what I'm talking about, so to all of those users who will reply to this and say "I know everything and that's not how it works and you don't get it and blah blah blah", sorry, but you're wrong. Supply and demand is an integral part of how an economy functions.)

Reasons why Gaia believed it would work: Ok, in the ideal, people are not greedy. In the ideal, people will sell things for prices that are fair in comparison with what they bought them for, keeping in mind that making a profit is nice and generally preferred. But heck, in the ideal, communism would work. But it doesn't. Because this isn't the ideal. This is the real world. Gaia believed that the 2% tax would reduce inflation because the cause of inflation is having too much "fake" money (in real life, paper money, and in gaia, gaia gold) in the economy and not enough "real" money (in real life, gold or silver, in gaia, cash) to back it up. You earn gold for doing anything on gaia. That means the amount of gold that could be in existence is limitless. So, what do you do? You remove some of that excess gold, in the form of a tax. In theory, the result will be that gaia gold will be worth more, and therefore prices will go down. But it doesn't always work that way, for the reasons stated above, and possibly others. It should work, but again, that's ideally, and this isn't the ideal, so in some ways it isn't as effective as it "should" be.

OMG...I had posted almost the exact same thing before the implemented the "tax". (not saying you are copying it or anything) And all I got for my posts were flames about how even though I actually run a business(yes I am an adult) that I did not know anything I was taking about.
The world of Gaia is not full of 15 year olds that think they know everything about everything after all...Haluaja.

Anyway thank you for now supporting my theory after all,

And it's good to know that other people realize that. I don't run a business, but I work for one, a successful one, and while I was working today I had one of my genius moments (haha) and figured this all out. Most of it I already knew, but I hadn't thought to apply it to the tax on gaia. I'm 22, almost 23, and I'm amazed at how uneducated some people are, especially on here. It's sad, really.

You do have to take into account that most of Gaia is lower to mid teens and can't apply any kind of real world experience to the virtual world.

Although for an admin themselves back when the "tax" was a hot topic, we were told the Gaia gold is not funded with real money. Therefor Gaia gold could not be compared to a real economy. But I had applied that to the Gaia cash and had figured that my real money was only valued from Gaia staff at 100 Cash per dollar, but now charge lots of cash for Cash shop item. My real money is being devalued by all this cash shop crap that they are selling.

I know they are. And while a lot of that can be attributed to some of them being too young to have a job or other such things, I think in some cases a small part can be attributed to not having been properly educated, either by parents or by the public school system, about money-related matters. Which cause a lot of problems, like kids with credit cards who end up spending money they don't have because they don't know how it works.
I know that gaia gold technically isn't backed by real currency, but in the case of things like MCs and cash shop items, which were bought with real money, they suddenly are exchangeable currencies. You buy an MC with real money. You sell it for "fake" money, gaia gold. That establishes gaia gold as having a value in relation to real money. Items in shops can also be bought for cash, making it so there is a cash equivalent for x amount of gold.
Basically, they have assigned a real-world value to pixels. In the case of the cash shop, the real-world values they have assigned are in some instances unrealistic, like the 3.99 for bubbles.

Agreed SmurfQueen.

I think they need to re-evaluate the prices of the CS items, and lower a lot of them, cuz some of the prices are down right ridiculous. Now so more then ever, so I just save up for the items instead of wasting money.

Anxious Vampire

I've already signed the petition, I just thought I'd lurk here for a minute since this is a petition that's actually got some meaning other than "Give us stuff!!!!!1!!DDDD<"

I've been here for a long time- hell I went through junior high and highschool on here xD- and I've known about Gaia since it first opened up, though I didn't join because the sheer massiveness of its many users scared the crap outta me. o__o
The reason I finally got up the nerve to join, was that despite the size, it seemed like such a tight knit community, and also because its was the largest site completely devoted to Anime/Manga, what the site originally was about.
Gaia was a fun place to spend my days; I'll admit, I spent many nights up till 6 in the morning just browsing forums and chatting with people till my mom screamed at me to go to bed.

I'm sure when they began, the team at Gaia had no idea that it would get this big. I mean, this is like the Anime Expo of anime message board sites. I'm even finding people on other message boards, sites like deviant art, Facebook and Myspace who have one- if not many -accounts here.
And of course, with growing popularity, changes had to be made, I won't knock them for that, but I've seen this site change in ways that are slowly leading them away from their central focus. God only knows when this site stopped being about anime and manga, and now spilled over into other unrelated and very unnecessary genre's- and I'm not even going to say anything about the release of politically geared items. I don't mind them, but I don't think they have a place here. They just don't fit somehow.

Its a little disheartening to see this uber awesome EI or this really great CS item, and then find out I have to pay 5 or 10 bucks to get it. Lets see, with gas as it is now, and the fact that I'm in college and paying out the a** for books I'm going to use once and then re-sell (and lets not get into paying for food. The dollar menu is my new friend), yeah, 'bout that paying for pixels thing...xD
I don't mind paying for things within reason, but being an artist, you like to keep in mind the idea of quality before quantity, and to tell you the truth, if I had the know how and epic skills that I'll never have, I'd re-design some of the items and things they come out with. Its like all the artists over there are doing what I'm doing now- procrastinating on getting stuff done. I think the only reason that the recent MC's are just so....ugh, are because their running out of ideas. Easy way to fix this? Head to the users. They could make an entire thread out of posting concept item sketches. The best way to get ideas, is if you work in teams and feed off one another, and with Gaia having so many users, I'm sure there's plenty of people out there with some pretty cool item designs.

I do agree with altering the kinds of ads we have on the site. Its inevitable that we get them, but I've not seen one that affiliates itself with sites similar to Gaia. I think it'd be great if they'd get a deviant-art ad up here somewhere, because nearly all the people I've met have an account over there. I think that could be updated....speaking of updates, I hate signing on and having to wade through 8 announcements. I like being informed, but for some things, one post is enough. -_-

Good lord...I didn't think this would be that long. o_O

Here is my current List of Gripes with Gaia
Remember Me Button-I didn't mind it at first but you could find sometime to try and fix this very annoying glitch?
Halloween Hysteria Event-I enjoyed events past but this one just doesn't quite seem to have that special charm like the previous events had, yes even the *shudder* grunny event.
Trick or Treating-The items were nice but just like the event, its kinda lost its charm from previous years.
Evolutionary Items:How about you slow down and stop making them for a while. Yes, the items are good and the artists are doing their best on them but they hurt MC's. Howrever, I did kinda enjoy the MC's this month.
Head Start Tickets:As a Zeta tester, I didn't actually get the chance to play it but one thing irks me about it. Why should those with cash get a head start? While those who have been waiting for it for years now, have to wait?

Note, I liked how they decided to do it by year but still, doesn't change the fact that people with cash get ahead while those who choose not to buy cash are left in the dust. Also, I'm a college student, so I can't exactly buy the cash for the items.

I highlighted the part of your post that I agreed with the most.
Nicely said. 3nodding
