GAIA's Dream Avatar Sucks!

There someone had to say it. If Gaia was gonna get Tektek shutdown, that could at least did a better job at replacing it. I go to put one item on, and I lose 5 others.

They didn't HAVE to offer a replacement. They did anyway, and work has been slow on it.

I miss TekTek as well.

The dream builder on here is laggy, cumbersome, & it suffers from the same issue that the normal dress up screen & marketplace does - the search & lack of organization options are painful.

I miss being able to calculate my inventory as well. The way Gaia has it set up sucks; as you can't organize things by value, & my invo is now so large that Gaia isn't able to even calculate it without crashing or freezing or timing out. Fantastic.

The questing bars were nice too.

And considering Gaia was mad about copyright things, it seems really damn hypocritical that Gaia would then start advertising for that Mix10 shop (or whatever that was called), which carried bootleg Pokemon plushies among other knock off products. Not parody items, straight up bootlegs.

So yeah, I miss TekTek. sad

I can usually work well with the avatar builder, but lately it's been doing a weird thing where when you press undo it's forgotten all of your 'undo's' and just puts you back to your current avatar set up which just destroys me. If I'm lucky I've already screenshotted my list of stuff so far which I do fairly regularly anyway - almost like a quicksave, but if I haven't yet then I'm back to square one...which is a pain.

Also I think it's actually become worse in terms of searching, I used to be able to put a search term in that was fairly strange/unique and it actually would give me pleasantly surprising results, now it just seems to bring up a load of crap that doesn't seem to even relate or be tagged to the search term I put in.

Tektek was working with luxuries that the Gaia team doesn't have: Stealing the assets from a professional source, and working on a Gaia project that didn't require being beholden to Gaia's userbase at large.

When you take out everything that wasn't taken directly from Gaia, Tektek was a really small tool, so... yeah, of course it could deliver a better product. Gaia was doing the heavy lifting, Tektek was building upon it. And then profiting off it. The dev probably would've kept getting away with it if he didn't start using Tektek to advertise his own competing avatar site.

You don't have to think Gaia's doing a good job, but geez, give credit where it's due.

No I totally understand the legality of why it's no longer around. I agree with Gaia that using there material to promote a unsponsored third party is wrong.

I'm talking about the application and practicality of its Dream Avatar. It gave a Gaia a more user friendly approach when it came to Avatar building. In turn making Gaia a more enjoyable place, not saying this place is a s**t without it, but it was a nice luxury to have for those that used those creation on Gaia itself.

I'm not upset that they shut tektek down, I'm upset that they replaced with a not so user friendlier buggier version. If they allowed for laying and remove the issue of items disappearing, avatar randomly resetting, and a little more organized. I'd have no problem with it. It doesn't even have to be the exact same, just get rid of the obvious issues and we'd be good.

Cause what's the point of even calling it a Dream Avatar if it has so many restrictions on layering, and item pairing. Ya know what I mean?

Slow is an understatement. I left gaia like3-4 years ago, and it has the same issues it does now.

gaia doesn't have the staff to dedicate time to it. current staff are incredibly stretched thin. it's not a priority for them, especially since there are so many other issues on the site that i think deserve more of their time. i agree, the feature needs some TLC but, hey, it's not broken and works as intended.
