What a nasty thread. Do you really hate Gaia that much?

It just seems all you want to do is say mean things about Gaia D:
I understand where your coming from, but it is possiable to enjoy Gaia without paying a penny.

What have you enjoyed the most in Gaia? It started off as a site focused on a community forum, and to this day still is. Forums dont cost a penny, and never will.

Also, this thing where your like going offline.
Dont do it xD
What will you gain? you will just ******** Gaia up and then things will become even harder on their end.

Indeed Gaia has been focused on money lately, but thats a business. Gaia is a Business. Dont forget that.

Also, even though sometimes can seem down, and theirs problems and such, I think we should really appreciate Gaia for what it does.
I love Gaia, i enjoy talking to people in other places and love how many announcments and updates there are.

So even though you guys currently dislike Gaia at the moment, which is fair enough.

I'm not a complete oldbie ('05, so I guess I am by some other Gaian's standards, but not to mine), but now... I kind of see it that way. I was around BEFORE there were Monthly Collectibles. (They were DONATION Items, then.)

Seriously, Gaia needs to stop with the cash - or, at the very least, stop with the evolving items. Why? Because they're more expensive than the monthly donations collectibles. MC's go for 250 cash - $2.50. (Recently they've been crappy compared to the evolving items. Originally, there was one donation item per month. Then two, randomly three - and then the cash shop came.)

Point being, NOTHING on this site should EVER cost more than 250 cash simply because that's how much the Monthly Collectibles are. It would honor the fact that the MC's were originally on donation only. I remember when all we asked for was an evolving item. We expected it to be a Monthly Collectible. Not a seperate entity that costs nearly $10. (Alruna's Rose was 7-- wait, or was it 9?)

I love the Aquarium - its an adorable concept. But, um... Gaia? I could pay less than you're asking for and get a REAL fish. That would live longer. I'm not ever going to fork my cash out for a fish on Gaia unless it costs no more than a dollar and is friggin immortal. And it better be snazzy rainbowy or sparkle. (They can animate those graphics, give us something SHINY. We like shiny. We'll shut up for five minutes because we're distracted.)

Personally speaking, I was sent a letter yesterday to beta test the "zOMG!" battle system. The test server comes up this Friday. I'll do it, gladly. I was thrilled to have been selected to test. But reading the first page of this thread made me nod my head and shake my fist in anger. It's true. All of it. And two days after I test, I'll gladly boycott Gaia for a few days. Because there's just something that screams unfair. I don't know if the random CAPSLOCK in my rant helped any. But at least I SAID something.

The reason we made/support this thread is because we all love Gaia so much. It currently is just a flimsy generic compared to what it could be. We all had such high hopes for Gaia and despite it letting us down we still want what's best for it.

Gaia didn't start as a business. It turned into one.

Also, many of us have said time and time again we still enjoy Gaia. It is simply not fair that the only good items coming out cost real money that some of us don't have. Or ridiculous amounts of gold. And the monthly collectibles only costed $2.50, which was not that bad. But ten dollars and up is just insane to me.

We are not trying to be mean.

We just love Gaia and want it to be all we know it can be.

True, all the cool items are in the CS, and yeah that sucks. Yet are you sure staying offline for a whole day is going to change that o.O

Yet i dont agree on this "boycott" thing.
Its stupid, saying your going to shout out to gaia, yet there are plenty of other ways to do it.

Isnt a petition enough? I mean i found this thread because it was so popular, and their are many dev's replying to it.
So there is no need to do the boycott.

Naturally I have my complaints against the way things have progressed. I've seen all kinds of changes since I joined in September 2003 and while I dislike most of them, I know Gaia isn't just doing it for shits and giggles because they like making us angry. wink

I'm pretty chill about most of the issues, but there is stuff I'd like to see fixed and that's why I'm subscribing to this thread.

Also, I REALLY want to thank the developers who have posted in here with all of my heart -- I never got to hear their side of the argument and I feel much better now that I know what's going on in Gaia's inner workings, as well as their acknowledgement of our satisfaction. ( or lack thereof. ) Glad you guys are listening! :]

The one thing I want to address really quickly is just one of the smaller complaints you guys have made. I read some complaining that Gaia has strayed too far from its anime roots.

I'm actually glad of that. I think they're doing a great job of keeping the anime spirit active with their comics, the art of NPCs like Moira and whoever the chap is at Barton Boutique, items like the Head Case, Inari's Beads, and Super Powers with clearly series-inspired poses, etc -- BUT not everyone here either a) likes anime or b) ONLY likes anime.

When I joined I was really into the anime/catgirl/whatever scene. Now, not so much. I HATE it. But I'm glad that Gaia is still an enjoyable place for me regardless of my position on anime. As for those users who are still into anime -- I'm sure a good percentage of them actually have diverse interests and tastes, and it's nice to see a little variation on the site. The same people who complain about the MTV inspired items or whatever, would be bitching if Gaia released nothing but Inuyasha and Dragonball Z based items. Right?

Some people like anime, some like today's fashion and couture, some like historial/period pieces ( THANK you for the Picolitrosso's Urn, btw! ), some like HSM and some prefer Rap, some go nuts over anything that looks like Johnny Depp or Tim Burton had their influence on it, and most of us are a diverse combination of interests. That's why I appreciate the balance between Gaia's anime-based roots and their exploration into new territory. Variety is, after all, the spice of life. :]

On my final note -- like many of us have already suggested, I was playing with the idea earlier of the Aquarium being made into a GOLD based feature and not a cash based feature. And here is my musing...

What if the Phin Phang was made into a gold store, the lifespan of the fish a little shorter ( yes, shorter! ) and the health/happiness meter slightly easier to increase to make up for the shorter lifespan. If the meters grew a faster, buying fish from the store and having them die sooner wouldn't seem like such a waste -- and it would be a pretty decent gold sink to help our bot-inflated economy? Just a thought.

Gaia has a funny way of ignoring petitions.

They were not always a business. The MCs were only two dollars and fifty cents, and the money went towards the site, which was why they were worthwhile to buy. The EIs are five, six, seven, and on up dollars and with how much money they make off of them and how little progress they are making with the site, there is just no way its all going to Gaia.

Really, I think the boycott is the only way to catch their attention. I don't even know if it will. Like I said, they like to ignore petitions. I have signed many petitions for worthy causes and all of them were ignored. Except the one were you could adopt the orphans, but they were in the Cash Shop, were they not?

Maybe staying offline won't change anything yet,
but it will let them know we're here, we're waiting.
It will make them listen, if only for a minute.

We are not doing this indefinately. We are not turning our backs on Gaia. For two days we won't be logging on. I that Gaia will notice the sudden drop in active users over those two days, and maybe realize we're serious.

This is NOT a "we hate Gaia" thread. This is a "We want to help Gaia see glory days again" thread.

Other than that, we're glad to hear that 98-99% of the BS will be free to use. You've restored a little bit of my faith in you guys.

We will do it. Or, at least I know I will. This is why:

Gaia WILL NOT go out of business because a good chunk of users were logged off for two days. Trust me. What will "******** up Gaia" is Gaia keeping down the track it's headed on.

A boycott is a form of protest, and we are allowed to protest how we want. The people who support this thread want to see Gaia changed. If Gaia chooses to ignore our protests, then let them. They're a big boy now. If they ignore us and refuse to listen to us (whatever their excuses might be), then we'll see what happens. Who knows, maybe there are enough people who are content with Gaia that even if everyone on this thread leaves, Gaia will still be fine.

The group is far from small.
Acey, a business with a lack of alot of customers for one day, can quite easily have an effect.
Wether it be a small effect it still has effect.

Like the Dev's have said, so far there spending more money then what they are recieveing.
They need the money, for all the new things they do.

Their will be complications down the line, its a supid thing to do.
