Welcome to the Northern Lights Charity. This isn't your normal fill out a bunch of application do this and that charity. It's slightly different. This charity is based on the good of the Gaian's that participate in it. We have the sub-zero meter. Once it fills up, a lucky person or a few lucky persons will get what the blizzard brings through. I hope you enjoy your stay in the Arctic. Visit and make new friends. Hope you have some warm clothes. (:

Polar bears
Baby polar bears often starve. In fact, 70 percent do not live to their third birthday. All across the Arctic, man is moving in to mine oil and coal and there is less space for the polar bear to live. A bear with oil on its coat cannot regulate its body temperature properly. If the bear eats the oil while grooming it could die.



My name is Ren. I'm eighteen years young.
I'm a senior in high school, with over 40 college credit under my name after graduation in May. I'm a bit of an over-achiever.
I'm involved in NHS, Debate, Forensics, and a big sister in Big Brothers Big sisters of America.
I plan on going into the nursing program the fall after graduation. whee

Penguins

A dying breed of awesome.

In Antarctica, home to the famous emperor penguin, the annual sea ice melting season has extended by as much as 3 weeks in recent decades. Less ice means less habitat for penguins and the loss of critical food, such as shrimp-like krill, which depend on polar ice to reproduce.



Much like these penguins, people like me are a dying breed.

I'm Rachel, but call me Rae please. I'm 19 and go to school at UM. I'm an outgoing, fun kid and I love making friends. I have been on gaia for a super long time,
I joined in 06 I think, I'm too lazy to do the math. If anyone needs someone to talk to, I'm a good candidate. I'm a psych major and I love helping out people.

Sub-zero is what we like to call our lovely meter.
Certain things can earn the sub-zero meter snowflakes.
Once the meter hits 100, we will give out the prize to the person/s we think are most deserving of it.

To add to the meter, a person could donate, being helpful and entertaining, and some other things.
Just participate in the thread and help out as much as possible will heighten your changes of getting snowflakes, as well as possibly getting the blizzard prize.

Donations for the sub zero meter can be sent to either Ren or Rachel, or NorthernLightsCharity mule. Just make sure to label.

For the second sub-zero meter, we will be giving out 300k. After each blizzard that goes through, the prize will go up.
