General Thread Rules
1. Obey the Gaia ToS.
2. Do not steal any art or graphics.
3. Do not beg for pets, gold, items, etc.
4. Respect others and show a good attitude.
5. No arguing or fighting in thread.
6. Please do not use l33t/chatspeak.
7. You may direct-link your cert image.
8. Listen to the staff, and do not bug them. Please do not PM any staff member's main account.
9. Post any questions in the thread. If the matter is urgent, you may PM the mule.
10. Do not PM the mule about issues and problems that do not concern you.
11. This is a no-drama zone. Do not come here to whine.
12. Negative behavior will be dealt with as the shop staff sees fit.
13. Repeated negative/bad behavior will get you temporarily banned (greylisted).
14. You may post in the shop if you are greylist, but you are not allowed to participate in any events during your ban.
15. Consistent negative behavior after a greylisting will get you permanently banned (blacklisted).
16. Rules can and will be changed and/or added as we see fit.

Q. How do you pronounce 'qilin'?
A. Chee-lin.

Q. How can I get one?
A. Check the Availability post to see if any are available now or in the near future. Customs, Bribes, and Pet Trades are also options.

Q. Can I have one for free?
A. Nope! But you can participate in various games and contests during events to win one for free.

Q. Do qilin breed?
A. Indeed they do. A qilin must be in the adult stage (stallion or mare) in order to breed.

Q. How do they breed?
A. Please see the Breeding post for a detailed explanation.

Q. Is co-owning allowed?
A. Yes, up to 2 people may co-own a qilin.

Q. Can I sell my qilin?
A. No. If you don't want your qilin anymore, please PM the shop mule so the staff can handle it.

Q. May I give my qilin away, then?
A Again, please contact the shop mule so we can help you through such a thing.

Q. Does my qilin have to have a Chinese name?
A. Your qilin must have a name of Asian-origin, but it does not have to be Chinese; names of Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Indian, South East Asian, etc, -origin are fine. Also, names of natural things (i.e. PR's qilin, 'River') are acceptable.
P.S. On a further note, perma-foals from special events like candygrams and secret santas do not have to follow this rule.

Q. Wouldn't that make it 'Fortunes of Asia' instead, then?
A. Uh...Well, the shop's qilin are based off of the interpretation of the design of a Chinese dynasty. But, yes. >>;

Q. You got the look of the qilin wrong.
A. Considering we're talking mythical creatures here, I think artistic interpretation is acceptable.

Q. It's still wrong! Fortune Cookies aren't Chinese either!
A. We aren't forcing you to buy anything here. If you don't like what you see, then you are free to leave. As for fortune cookies, they're being utilized as a store-credit system. If they bother you that much, then again, you can leave.

Q. Do we choose Fortunes for our qilin?
A. Yes, unless a Fortune has already been given.

Q. What can we use for Fortunes?
A. Anything as broad as 'Wealth,' or as specific as 'A Sunny Day,' is acceptable. However, negative wishes involving ideas such as Death, Sickness, Despair, etc, will not be accepted - those are Misfortunes, after all.

Q. When do we choose a Name/Fortune?
A. In general, when you win your qilin.

Q. Where do I post my qilin's cert information?
A. Please post names/fortunes in the Guild Naming Thread.

Q. Who do I send Trades/Information to?
A. The shop mule. Please don't send anything to any of the staff's main accounts unless specified.

Q. I've been waiting forever for _____! When are you guys going to be done with it?!
A. Understand that all staff members have other responsibilities outside the shop. We are working as fast as possible on everything, so please be patient.

Flatsales
1. Flatsales will be held with the Flaffle method. The mule will take sign-ups at the FS time for each qilin. Sign-ups will last for 15 minutes. At the end of 15 minutes, we will call an end to the sign-ups, and randomize each list for a winner.
2. You may sign up for each qilin in a FS set.
3. Post all of your sign-ups in one post if you are signing up for multiple lists.
4. Please do not edit your posts. If you decide you want to sign up for another one, make a new post.
5. You can only win one per flatsale, even if you sign up for multiple lists.
6. You are allowed to proxy for someone else, but you may not sign yourself up for flaffles if you are proxying.
7. If you are proxying, please specify at the top of your post who you are proxying for.
8. Unless specified differently, Lai Si will cost 5K, and adults will cost 3K.
9. Payment is due within 24 hours of winning. You must pay in this time frame, or a new winner will be rolled for.
10. Send all trades to the mule, and please indicate that you are paying for a Flatsale in the trade title.

1. Don't bid what you don't have.
2. Please do not withdraw your bids.
3. Items are priced at 90% Tektek value. Only monthly collectibles and the Nightmare/Angelic headbands are accepted. Also, only 12 of each item will be accepted.
4. Add up your own bids. After listing pure and items, post your total amount when bidding.
5. Co-bidding is allowed, but please do all co-bid planning off the thread. Co-owning by up to two people is allowed.
6. Proxying is allowed. Please indicate who you are proxying for.
7. Unless specified differently, please bid using Bold Red Size 20 Font.
8. When bidding, please indicate which qilin you are bidding for by colorist name.

The Story

Qilin are mythical creatures known in myths throughout East Asian - one might be familiar with the Japanese term 'kirin' - and are comparable to the Western Unicorn. It is said that these creatures have the head of a dragon, the body of a deer, the hooves of an ox, the tail of a lion.

It is believed that a qilin will appear at the birth and death of a person with great wisdom, and that they are found only in places with wise and benign leaders. They are peaceful, gentle beasts very much atuned to nature, bearing the ability to walk through grass without disturbing the blades, and upon water without rippling the surface. They do not attack humans, or other animals, alike unless provoked by wickedness. As such, they do not consume meat.

Legends say that the appearance of a qilin will bring prosperity and good fortune.

"Well, enough of old stories and myths, eh? What about that peculiar thing...the rumors, yes? Haven't you heard? More and more people have said that they saw horse-like creatures wandering about in the forests and fields!

One girl said she saw one up close, that it came right up to her. Had big branch-like antlers on its head, a long tail, and covered in scales. Why, another man was saying that he met one just like that, but very slender with a long mane of sleek hair.

Strange, isn't it? The sages have said that the land is about to flourish and prosper...but that really can't have anything to do with those old stories, eh?....Oh, goodness! It's gotten quite late! Here, a little something for you - oh, no need to thank me - but yes, strange little red money packet, isn't it? A wandering wiseman passed by a few days ago, and had a lot of them. See the luck knots attached to the packets? Yes, yes...perhaps you'll have some good luck, then!

Oh, please do keep and take good care of it. Who knows? It could bring you many more fortunes than you thought...

Normal Qilin Stages

Baby Stage - Lai Si
[Stage Length: 1-2 weeks]

Lai Si are red envelopes containing money, and are traditional gifts exchanged between people at festivals and celebrations, such as Chinese New Year. The envelopes are always red, and marked with characters indicating fortune and good luck. These Lai Si are marked with characters that mean "May your wish come true," have been tagged with a Luck Knot, each uniquely colored - there's something very special about these ones, it seems. Perhaps the fortune on the envelope will come true?

Foal Stage - Filly and Colt
[Stage Length: 3-4 Weeks]

Oh my...it seems as though an animals has emerged from your Lai Si! The fabled creature called the Qilin has come to bring your lucky soul the fortune inscribed upon its envelope! Have you a sturdy little colt, or perhaps a long-legged filly? Well, either way, they are young and inquisitive about the world around them at this point, but will keep close to you if you treat them well. They cannot really communicate with humans at this point, but will usually indicate what they want by gestures and horse-like noises. Remember, qilin do not tolerate the wicked, and even these children can turn into frightful beasts.

Adult Stage - Mare and Stallion
[Stage Length: Forever?]

They do grow up fast, don't they? Your little colt has now turned into a proud, fierce stallion, or your gangly filly into a graceful mare! Well-acquainted with Nature and the world around them, your qilin may have a tendency to wander off on its own, seeking the swiftness of the winds to carry them to far-off places. Perhaps they wish to bring a little luck to someone in need, or sense the imminent arrival of a sage. But never fear, for they will always return to you. Adults are able to communicate with people by way of eye-contact; when a creature such as an adult qilin looks a human in the eye, that human will understand, in his or her heart, what the qilin is saying. Understanding between them and their first human bonds are particularly strong.

Not much is yet known about these beasts...but it is said that should a qilin ever commits a negative act, one that goes against its inherent nature, then the creature slowly becomes warped into a fierce and dangerous sort of being. By the time adulthood is reached, they no longer resemble their comrades, and are fearsome sights to behold. Their pitiable state of being 'fallen' from their true purpose has earned them the name 'Misfortunes' - a title that they carry along with the plagues of things such as sickness, misery, and death. While not necessarily evil, Misfortunes are much more dangerous than normal qilin. Perhaps luckily for most humans, Misfortunes are very few and far between...

If these frightful creatures peak your interest, perhaps you should visit this corner of the eastern lands.

The myth goes that the appearance of a qilin marks the coming of a wise person. Thus, let your wishes, the dreams of the wise, make a qilin appear to you!

Rules & Information
1. Each colorist will (generally) open 2 slots a month. The colorists are not obliged to open any slots that they don't feel they can handle them, however.
2. Bribes are always open. Please see below for more information.
3. Custom openings will be announced a few days in advance. Which colorists are opening slots, slot types (lineart-edits or non-lineart editted, etc), and at what time customs open will be announced at this time.
4. You may only claim one slot per custom opening. If a slot remains open for more than 48 hours, however, you may claim multiple slots.
5. You may only get a custom(s) every other month, i.e., if you claim a slot(s) in September, you must wait until November before getting trying for customs again. Bribes do not apply to this rule.
6. A colorist will decide the level of difficulty of lineart edits. Please do not argue on the subject - it will often be a matter of skill vs. the edit complexity.
7. Lineart Edits and Cosplay Policy: Minor lineart edits (facial-expression change, hair edits, small items like earrings, etc) will be accepted depending on the colorist. Large edits, such as Kazegami's Saddle, will be accepted on case-by-case basis, depending on the colorist.
- Full-clothing edits and painted-on clothing designs for cosplays will not be accepted. As such, there is no additional charge for 'cosplay' qilin other than normal lineart edit prices (if there are any lineart edits at all).
- Cosplays and Original Character cosplays do not need to follow the Asian-origin name rule.
8. If you want to get a custom based on a design of another pet, please ask that pet's original colorist for permission if you did not create the design.
9. The mule will announce that Customs are open in the thread. Something along the lines of 'Customs are now open' will be posted. At that time, if you are trying to claim a slot, PM the mule saying that you would like a slot (you do not need to PM the custom form at that time). Also please specify in the PM Title which colorist's slot you are trying for. The mule will announce slot winners in the thread, and custom forms can then be PM'd to the mule.

Edit Prices - Colorists will decide what level of difficulty a lineart edit is. Below is a general guide with examples.

+15K-25K for complicated coloring
+15K for light editing
- Small items like earrings or bracelets
- Light body-lineart and hair edits
+25K for medium editing
- Large items like necklaces, scarves, or bandages (no full-body clothing allowed)
- Moderate body-lineart and hair edits
+40K-50K for heavy editing
- Large items like saddles or weapons
- Heavy body-lineart and hair edits


Bribe Information
If you want to get a custom while slots are closed/filled, you can attempt a bribe with a colorist.
1. Bribes are always open. However, it is at the requested colorist's discretion whether or not to accept the offer. Please do not harass a colorist about taking a bribe.
2. Bribe amounts should be at least base-custom price.
3. All customs rules regarding edits and cosplays apply to bribes; the following are not allowed even in bribes:
- full-clothing/painted-on clothing cosplays
- extremely unnatural anatomical mutations (like extra legs or tails)
- items that do not fit within the setting and time period of the shop (like guns)
4. Keep in mind that bribes for Misfortunes will be very rarely accepted (note to all colorists: bribes for Misfortunes must be approved by PR).
5. You can not bribe for an Elder.
6. To make a bribe, please PM the mule with the following information:
- a fully-completed custom form
- which colorist you want to bribe
- the amount you are bribing with
7. The PM will be passed on to the colorist of your choice. If the colorist accepts, you will receive a confirmation PM, along with any other details that might need going over.

Breeding

Deep in the winding trails of the far-off mountains, hidden and secluded from those who have not the heart to see it, is a place said to bring forth the best of good fortune. The site, which lore says was blessed by the gods, is merely a clearing in a forest of bamboo, with a gnarled, ancient-looking tree at its center.

Few travelers have had the chance to see this mysterious place, and fewer still can claim to have witnessed the most extraordinary occurrence there. A few times every year, pieces of colored thread, some bright, some dark, all colorful, will begin to drift from the sky, falling directly over the bamboo clearing. These strange strands of thread are instantly attracted to the old tree in the center, entangling themselves in the branches.

Over the course of the next few days, the thread will begin to weave themselves on their own accord, forming intricate patterns as they bind and twist together. The end product is a colored knot hanging serenely from the branches of the tree, decoration that is as confounding as it is beautiful.

Unbeknown to most human eyes, pairs of those creatures of fortune, qilin, will travel far, from every corner of Asia, to pray at this sacred tree in hopes of being bestowed with their own little fortune. For from these knots are new qilin born, and the ancient tree is left to enjoy its new companions for only a very short time. The parents will collect the new knots upon their antlers, and flee away with the utmost swiftness to find a being who may just need a little bit of luck...


Rules and Information
1. Only adults may breed, and they must have been in their adult stage for at least 2 weeks.
2. Any previous sets of foals must be grown. Two qilin may breed only if their last set of foals (if it is their 2nd+ batch) have grown to adulthood.
3. Homosexual breedings are allowed. Yes, this means male-male and female-female breedings are a-okay.
4. A breeding will yield 1 to 3 babies. Numbers will be rolled in the breeding thread in the guild.
5. Each new knot will cost 5K. There is no fee for the actual breeding, just the babies that come out of it.

Breedings will most commonly be speed-slots or raffles, but you might also be able to win breedings through games and other events. If you get a slot when they open, fill out the form below and PM it to the mule.

Fortune cookies are FoC's 'Discount Coupons' of sorts. Each cookie is worth 1000 Gaia Gold, and can be used for discounts in anything sales-related in the shop, breeding and customs included. In general, cookies can be won by participating in games and contests, as well as through shop giveaways and the like.
