IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Because of my current financial situation, and inability to get a job due to medical reasons, i'm now opening up both my shops to Pets for cash options. Buttercat wood and Zahina Pride will now have the option to pay for a pet with US dollars instead of waiting for Slots to open up.

WHAT THIS MEANS-

Paying customers will be bumped to the top of my to do list, taking priority over all things. It also means this will be the only way to get an elder minus extreme roleplaying or extreme questing, which hasn't even been released yet.

My husband and i have less than a hundered bucks in our checking account, which has put conciderable strain on our life here, which was already something we weren't enjoying. Therefore, i've had to resort to this =( Heaven knows i wish i could have a job right now, but i can't.

Temporary hiatus

As i get zahina pride up and running, buttercats has unfortunately gone on temporary hiatus. i'm still easy to get ahold of, and no the shop will never close, but right now zahina pride has become sort of my focused store. Buttercats is on hold while i hash out some things. Growings will still happen. (all should be grown now) and you are all still free to RP to get points to spend for when the list of stuff comes out. But for now, look for me at zahina pride. (link in the links below, or in Ali's signature).

I love this shop too much to let it go, so there should be no worries about that.

Can I have a pet?
Yes, but you have to get one through an event. Begging for a pet can get you blacklisted.

Are these RP required?
No, but RPers get perks here just like in almost any other shop.

Do i have to host these on my own server?
No! I host them so they can grow up big and strong. If you choose to host at the adult stage, I will still keep it hosted in case you lose it. (or i lose it)

Can these things breed?
Yep. With the staff's help of course.

Can my buttercat be gay?
Yes, but right now, breeding is only available from males and females. In the future, an adoption feature may be added.

Do you do pet trades?
I love pet trades. The second page has information on ones i'm interested in. Or what i'm interested in.

Egg

Buttercat eggs are extremely tough. It takes a strong kitten to crack its way out of it's shell, so sometimes it takes a while to hatch. Other times, they hatch very quickly. They can't communicate at this stage. Mothers tend to either leave the eggs to themselves, or guard them madly. It mostly depends on the mothers personality. The trends also depend on whether the buttercat mother has been domesticated or not.


Kitten

After hatching, the kitten is like any normal kitten. Full of energy one minute, and passed out asleep the next. Their wings are fragile at this stage, so flying wont' get them farther than a leap would carry them anyway, but they try nonetheless. Kittens havn't mastered words at this level, but they do know some words. Also, they can make their feelings known through telepathic aura's that they have. Kittens don't have much magic, but if under extreme pressure, sometimes emits little things, example being, a cornered and frightened kitten might be able to form a small invisible barrier around them for a short time.

Teen

Teens are full of energy. At this stage they're forming friendships or enemies, becoming slightly romantic, and getting into all sorts of mischief. They can be very unruly as well. Magically, they're starting to be able to do things, but it's still unreliable. The teen can now carry conversations, though on a level of that of a normal teen, and only telepathically. They can form some words verbally however. Teens can fly, but not do maneuvers, and they get tired fairly quickly.

Adult

Now that your buttercat has finally reached it's final stage,
it's a lot more calm.. It's learned to control it's magic, and to be mature with it. It is forming romantic relationships. Depending on how wild or domesticated it's become, relationships may be fleeting, or be life long. It can carry on lovely conversations, telepathically or out loud also, as an adult. Adults can fly expertly, and for long distances, maneuvering in many ways. Adult buttercats can haul about twice their body weight in the air.

Elder

After a long time, and much training, a buttercat becomes an elder. The strongest, fastest most intelligent of all buttercats. There are few elders, and most are legends. Wild elders are usually very independant and too themselves, being seen rarely. They're apt to wander and explore great distances. Not much more is known of them at this time.


Elder stages are on their way, and attainable through questing and RP only.

Shayla wiped away the sweat from her forehead and continued her descent to the island located below. Very few adventurers in Arenaithya were so daring as her. She'd travel farthest from her island, and explore and discover twice as many new islands as any other. Pulling on ropes and levers, maneuvering her flying boat down to this new island, Shayla smiled at the thought of something new and exciting. She lived for the adventure, and would take nothing less.

Anchoring her ship to a nearby tree, she threw down the ladder, grabbed the things she thought she'd need, including compass and water, and made her way down to the ground. Arenaithya was riddled with floating islands, high above the clouds of their world. No one had actually set foot on the planet for some lifetimes, and it was believed it inhabitable. Those that tried to never came back. Shayla believed it the last big adventure, but for now, she was content with these little ones that brought her such fame.

The trees of this island were unlike any other. Many of the lower branches had been rubbed or broken off, making for great sitting spots. Claw marks could be found in the trees, and old ones found on the ground in unusual patterns. Shayla frowned as it looked like these creatures hopped everywhere they went. Muttering under her breath about the dangers of hopping things with claws, she continued deeper in the forest, making sure to keep her bearings.

Aside from those signs, the wood was like any other wood. Birds, squirrels, and other assorted wildlife chattered through the branches as she passed, unaccustomed to humans. Suddenly from behind her, a low warning growl was issued. Turning as fast as she could without acting too rash, she came face to face with what seemed to be a very large cat, flying on butterfly wings at head level. The wings didn't make a sound as it sat there glaring at her. A feeling of "warning" came over her, and she backed away a step. The same growl issued from a creature behind her as she did it, and she yelped forward. And then another from her right side.

Shayla's heart seemed ready to pump out of her chest. making to the only side she wasn't cornered on, she retreated farther into the forest. Ocassionally being herded by another growl and another flying cat. Eventually, she made her way to a clearing, with a large tree in the middle.

The entire glade was surrounded by the creatures. Buzzing foward, but not entering the grove itself, they stayed along the edges, watching. Some were paired together, obviously male and female, and Shayla thought for a second she'd spied a kitten.

Her attentions however should have been directed at the tree behind her. With a loud thump, something very large landed behind her. Before she could turn, a huge roar was issued. Tripping over her feet as she finished the turn, Shayla fell on her back, only to see what looked like a giant Lion padding over to her, head low. Coming up close, it put it's giant paw down on her chest, and pinned her down. Shayla almost fainted from the pressure, but it was eased slightly after that thought.

" What are your intentions in my forest. " Shayla heard it, but at the same time, the huge cat made no sound. Stammering something about adventure and discovery, the paw was removed from her chest, and the Buttercat began to pace around her in circles.

It was old and tired looking, obviously male. There were battle scars that could be seen now that she was looking up close. Shayla threw her hair out of her eyes as she continued to notice the small details about it. One wound on it's shoulder gave it an almost unnoticable limp.

" You were foretold. But are you ready?" It said again in her mind. Startled, she looked it in it's large yellow eyes. "What do you mean foretold? Ready for what?" At this the old one chuckled and brought it's eyes up right to hers, nose in nose, and Shayla was suddenly in a vision. Before her lay a corpse, and beyond that something large and black, with white fangs dripping blood. In the vision, Shayla picked up her weapon and stepped over the body at her feet, ready to defend what was behind her. A nest of eggs.

Throwing her self back out of the vision, she was shaking. Never had she seen like that. Her people had seers, but they could not share their visions. "W...Wh...What does it mean? " She asked out loud, unable to hide her fear. "That was you! There on the ground, that was you. Did i do that?" She stared up at the cat, almost to tears.

The face suddenly turned sypathetic, and it's eyes turned sad. " No, you did not do it. A creature so horrible it can not be named did. " Shaking it's head, He turned toward the tree, and lay down under it, beckoning for her to join him.

" Will you take on the responsibility? Will you protect them? " He asked, sorrow in his voice. Holding herself, still calming from the vision, she looked at the large cat. " What you're asking.... You don't mean just the eggs do you. You mean all of it." Wise eyes stared at her and nodded. "The time will come when a new Champion will need to take the lead. And i believe that champion to be you. You will be caretaker of all Buttercats, if you but accept the task.


Remembering her anchored boat, the strange events of the day, and everything else in the past many years, what the cat was saying made a sort of sense. It was what seemed right. "But, i don't know how." Was all she said.


" We will teach you. "

Shayla went on to learn what she needed, and protect when she was called forth. Thus Arenaithya's center became a new island, only for those deemed caretakers, or caretakers in training. Shayla went down in legend, and her epic battle became childrens tales and monumental statues. For not only did she beat back the creatures that couldn't be named, she did as she promised, and protected. Her people became the protectors, and the buttercats were peaceful and healthy. It is now a caretakers duty to look after their charges, and protect them from harm, be it with magic, or brute force. The center of knowledge and harmony became the very isle that Shayla discovered, naming Arenaith Island. It houses massive ports for adventurers, centers of learning, nurseries, and many homes for those more domesticated and less adventurous. So the tale continues, and buttercats are at peace now, but who knows when that may change? Time will tell if the current caretakers have what it takes to beat back the shadows with fangs.

Flatsales

So you think you have what it takes to care for a buttercat? Flatsales are where you'll find ones you can take home. They'll be held no less than once a month, ranging anywhere from 4-10 eggs. (or more, who knows). The date will be announced at least a week before to give everyone an opportunity to be here. Please read the following facts and directions on how to participate.

◘ Normal flatsale eggs are 6k. that's 6000g.
◘ If the trade is not sent within 2 hours, (24 if someone proxy'd for you) then you pet will be resold.
◘ Someone may proxy for you if you can't make it. They still have to win the pet though, so it's not guaranteed you'll get it.
◘ Do NOT discourage people from going for the pet you like. This will result in no pets for a while, and my possibly letting the other person have that pet.
◘ Only after the mule posts "go" will the rolls/posts count. So if i'm late getting online, the flatsale is postponed till i'm on.
◘ Only one pet per flatsale. If a pet isn't selling, the mule will post "Go again" and you can then roll/post for a second pet.

Any private RP can take place In the guild


Roleplay for buttercats can take place in two places, the main thread and the guild. If you're RPing in the main thread, it's concidered an open RP, where anyone can join in. If there is RP going on in the thread, please talk out of character in (( brackets )) or something similar, so people can discern between the two. If you're RPing in the guild, it's concidered a closed RP unless stated in the title of the thread. (aka: [ORP] Summer fun ) Please be sure to post the people invited in the first post or thread title.

Roleplaying is much like telling a story. Dialogue RP will not count toward your Rping. A good example of an RP post would be:

Gene had never been more nervous in her life. The fragile egg she'd been handed was the biggest responsibility she'd ever had, and the concept frightened her. Turning to the adoption caretaker, she stammered a thank you and walked out the front door.
" What am i going to do with you?" She muttered under her breath, holding the egg up at eye level and gazing at the strange colours the egg had.

Dialogue RP is simply posting something like "Jamie: Oh my gosh i love it!" and that's it. It doesn't make for very entertaining RP, and doesn't allow for storyline input at all. You can RP like this, but it will not count toward your RP tokens.

RP Tokens

Roleplayers like in any store should be entitled to perks. So, RP tokens are a way of keeping track of it. There are a few ways you can get ahold of tokens, which will be kept recorded in the guild.

Firstly, for every 10 sentences of RP, you'll gain a token. This counts for RP in guild, in the thread, and in event threads. It does not count for journal entries. Those are different. In your journal, you'll keep track of all the RP you do, either by linking the page, or copy and pasting the actual RP. You will be trusted to keep track of your tokens earned this way, and report them in the Rp counter thread

Second, you can gain RP tokens for Journal Entries. Each journal entry will be looked over by staff and awarded a certain amount of tokens. These tokens will be kept track of in the first post of your journal. The better the entry, the more tokens you'll get. These count only toward RP entries.

Journals posts themselves earn you a half token. These posts include navigation, friends, ect. The kind of posts -about- your caretaker and buttercats. There is no maximum number of these you can have, as you may want to add a few for each pet. Report any change in this number in the token thread for review by a staff member.

And finally (for now) You can gain tokens at the start of an RP. If you participate more than five times in any planned RP in the guild or an event thread you earn one token. The posts must be atleast four sentences long to count.

You don't own a buttercat, but would like to participate in our RP? No problem really. You need just apply. You can earn tokens at half the rate owners can. The benefit of RPing this way is, it can start you on your way to your elder stage before you get your buttercat, OR, tokens can be turned in for other things, such as your own buttercat. Just PM the mule the following form to join in.

Redeeming your RP tokens

As of yet, the list hasn't been released for what you can buy with tokens. It's on its way, rest assured. They can range from simple tattoos/patterns on your existing buttercat, Free breeding, Buttercats, or Elder Stages. So stay tuned =P

Two buttercats in love... romance in the air.... It's only natural after all. Breeding between buttercats is a very special ocassion. The two buttercats in question must love each other (and have rp'd together atleast once).

To breed your pets it's 12k. A buttercat may have anywhere from 2-6 eggs. You may choose whetherto keep them or flatsale them. 50% profit will go to the colorist, of
course.

You must have consent between both owners. Pets could only breed 3 times in their lifetime. (cause it's a lotta stress to have that many babies!)
