Big City is a big place, maybe even the biggest in the world, and that's exactly where you'll find yourself here in Animal Crossing: Big City. Unlike animals who want to stay in small, quaint towns all around the world, Big City folk find themselves wanting more out of life, and this is the place many of them go to find it! A far cry from rolling fields dotted with a handful of houses, the city is filled with clustered buildings of all sorts, offering a plethora of occupations and entertainment options for everyone in its borders.

Citizens can go for a walk on one of the sprawling city's beautiful, pristine beaches, or maybe spend an afternoon perusing its carefully filled museums and delicious cafes and bistros. Plenty of arcades and boutiques swell Big City's many shopping centers, and there's no lack of theaters, both traditional and movie-based, either. Wellness centers, spas, and gyms offer activity for more health-conscious animals, and there's even friendly community league games of all sorts of sports at the parks scattered around. In the heart of the city, as well, lies the Wishing Well, where individuals can wish for new friends and family to grow the ranks of the burgeoning burg.

All that activity means no lack of occupations, either! Animals find themselves with all sorts of options, as everyone works together to ensure the city is beautiful and runs smoothly. Positions ranging from contractors to cooks, policemen to plumbers, almost anything someone could want to do are available to fill - or not! Some choose instead to spend their days out in the sun, fishing on the beach, or if they're feeling a bit more green-minded, tending small gardens. Even these more relaxing activities have a purpose, of course, and they amass the (oft literal) fruits of these labors to sell at the massive, weekly co-op gathering.

Still others may become scholars, attending Big City University to expand their knowledge of the world - possibilities are endless in Big City!

With everyone working together and enjoying their city so much, it's a lovely place. Trees and flowerbeds line most of the streets, and the city workers strive hard to keep the sidewalks and tram lines in tip-top order. Most animals don't bother with cars, preferring to walk, bike, or ride one of the public transports to their destination. There's always something to get you where you need to be, no matter the time of day!

Even in such a big place, it's hard to get lost; most villagers (as they are often still called) have some variety of smart phone, and with great service range and public wifi spots, it's difficult to completely lose one's way. It's not uncommon to see roving packs of animals glued to these devices and playing one of several newly popular GPS-based games. Such a thing leads to many gatherings in all sorts of unusual spots... so even if you do lose your way, there's bound to be a BugNet GO! or Fishgress player wandering around somewhere to give directions.

Big City is a very diverse place, as well. Villagers from all over the different regions of the land come to get away from their smaller town life or, in the case of those from other decently sized cities, get a taste of what the most bustling hub in the world is like. Innawoods, Swampy Bog, and So Deep are Big City's closest neighbors, with Big City's suburbs coming right up against Innawoods' edge. So Deep, of course, is off of Big City's coast, and they've even helped build a bridge to an island offshoot of the city! It's a fully modernized resort style location, offering tropical delights for all visitors and peaceful island living for residents. Despite the bridge, it's not uncommon to see sailboats out in the bay, as many animals enjoy it both as transport and hobby alike.

Swampy Bog is a little south and west of Big City, touching it, So Deep, and even the edge of Innawoods!

Up There is also a relatively close neighbor, since The Bank and Big Office Corp both have towers that climb high into the sky, each being marvelous wonders of architecture that stretch into the clouds. Far Away is still, well, very far away, even if citizens enjoy watching the night sky and wondering about its mysteries. Flat Place is on the other side of Innawoods, but plenty of residents have moved in anyway, making them a not terribly startling sight. Big City is a pretty good ways from Ice Land, though a small trickle of visitors do find their way in every year, especially during wintertime!

No matter where a villager is from, though, whether they're an immigrant to the city or native born, one thing is sure; there's something for everyone in the great Big City!

Big City - You are Here!

Big City is one of the biggest, brightest, and bestest cities on the entire planet; it's truly an expansive trading hub that never sleeps! No matter exactly how each villager arrives, the individual charm and wit of each soul mixes into a delightful temptation and zest for life - it makes someone packing their boxes and bags a truly rare sight!

Innawoods - Woods Critters/Bugs

Innawood residents sometimes look rather mean or off-putting, but that's never what matters, is it? Inside, most of these souls arriving to Big City long for companionship, adventure, and freedom that they can't find in their own homes - give them a warm welcome, won't you?

So Deep - Ocean Life

Residents immigrating from So Deep vary quite a bit in shape and size, and their personalities are no exception! Those coming from such a expansive area may be looking for a fresh, new start, or simply something quieter and range from the most modest isopod to the boisterous shark.

Flat Place - Plains Critters

Most residents of Flat Place enjoy a life of luxury in the sun, hesitant to leave their warm, delightful haven. Though many are lazy, the temptation of a greener life draws wide eyes and sparkling smiles to Big City. Having heard tales, those well-learned and interested in the less spartan and sandy make their way to their new home.

Ice Land - Snow Critters

An old saying suggests that the coldest of residents often have the warmest of hearts, and so it goes that those from this freezing area may harbor the gentlest and friendliest of them all! One could wonder what brings them to Big City, but does it matter when penguins are often so cute?

Swampy Bog - Marshland Critters

Laid-back and easygoing, most residents from Swampy Bog are difficult if not impossible to rile. These jovial jokers come from a locale where wit and guile reign supreme, though it's fine - they're only in it to bring a party and make everyone laugh!

There is a curious little shop in Big City, right on the corner of Fluff and Main. On the outside it looks dim and dusty, as though an ancient tomb or a dilapidated, old library. Even the signs are sun-faded to the point of being barely legible ... it may be surprising to watch so many residents patronizing this place!

Curious, new residents are met with a warm smile of an aging wolf as they filter in, and many are even more shocked to find such an adorable establishment awaits them inside! Clearly the pets they're confronted with are treated with concern - the smaller ones grouped carefully in their secure environments while the larger remain confined, but are able to be interacted with under his careful supervision.

He tells these new patrons to research carefully if they want whatever catches their eye, but to do so quickly - he sells out quite fast!

You want your very own villager - or twenty? Great! There's a few different ways to acquire characters to live in Big City.

First of all, there are flaffles. ACBC does not participate in classic speed flatsales; instead, we offer pay-what-you-want, single entry raffles for premade characters. Different stipulations may apply for each, but in general you simply ask for entry, get a ticket, and the winners are decided by random number generation. You may pay as little as nothing, or send whatever you want to give the shop for these villagers.

Next, there are paid events, including raffles and auctions. In raffles, you may buy tickets at a price designated per event; for auctions, it's a race to see who's willing to offer the most funds for whatever special villager is up for purchase! These methods will typically involve rarer villagers or special edits for grabs.

Customs and semi-customs are another way to acquire villagers. Slots may open at colorist's leisure for opportunities to get something particular or a little extra compared to premade villagers. Both operate on a bribe/offer system, though free slots may be made available at different times.

Big City Coins allow you to earn points and spend them on different rewards, including semi-custom villagers! BCCs can be earned in a variety of ways, including Discord games, in-thread events, and even roleplaying. Rewards from this method can even be gifted to other users, especially useful for getting newbies into the shop!

Wishing allows for new villagers to come to the city, detailed below. Of note is that wishers can request generate an extra villager to be given away to a newbie (someone with three or less villagers). So if you're new to us, make sure to speak up; someone might want to give you a new friend!

Finally, villagers will sometimes be available for RLC. Please check back for links to more information!

Right in the middle of Allbarks Park lies a curious display - Big City's Wishing Well. This feature shouldn't be new to any resident from any location on the planet, but Big City's is quite famous for its extraordinary ability: in a way that no one can explain, as magic often works, this ability allows up to four residents to come together and make a very purposeful wish - a wish for new residents to move in!

Most scientists speculate that other, similar-working Wishing Wells only have enough size and "hocus-pocus" to allow up to two residents to wish for friends, but even then they can't explain what happens when one finds a Shooting Star to add to the mix - the entire city can gather close as possible and make many wishes, all at once!

No one is ever for certain just what kinds of villagers will move in, but those with certain desires in mind may influence this decision. Most importantly though, everyone gains a new friend!

Details?

Wishing allows sets of 1-4 villagers to wish for more individuals to join Big City, whether they want new friends, family, or even children of their own. Usually these new residents resemble the wishers, as the well takes a little part of their own hopes and dreams and forms it into completely new citizens; however, each wisher may have a slightly different wish, which could influence the outcome. All major towns in the world have their own well, and it's generally understood and accepted that it "just works"! Big City's well is simply the biggest and strongest well anyone knows about.

In technical terms, wishing functions similarly to breeding in most shops. When two or more villagers make a wish, one villager per player is created, with an optional extra to be given away to newbies. Gender and species do not matter, though there are specifics as to how species are chosen that can be seen in the main wishing information thread. For single-wisher wishes, the features of the new villager will function similarly to a 'mystery breeding,' i.e., random features will be combined with the single villager. A single wish just isn't enough for the well, so it pulls from a passer-by in order to complete the wish!

Outside roleplaying, much of this shop's currency, Big City Coins - or simply BCC, more details in the next post - are made by earning Bells, which itself is done by playing with our bot through the chat application Discord. We have chosen this platform as, aside from it offering wonderful real-time capabilities, it is available on more or less any device you might be accessing this thread from; it can be joined on browser, downloaded as a program on your chosen OS, or installed onto many mobile devices.

Discord at its core offers voice communication, but we have disabled this for our purely text-based server. We find it is much easier to moderate, and easier on everyone that might feel shy to not worry about such things as microphones.

As such, most conversation will likely take place there instead of a guild, but don't worry - orders, roleplaying, and thread events will still all take place in the typical static threads.

No one is required to join us, but we'd love to see you there!

Big City Coins, or BCC, can be earned in a variety of ways and are a reward for activity in the shop and its community. This is a completely OOC currency that can be used to purchase a variety of rewards, ranging from new clothes for an existing villager, pets for your villager, and even new, semi-custom villagers entirely!

The primary method of earning BCCs on Gaia is through roleplaying. More information about the requirements can be found in the BCC Thread!

Other than that, the Discord chat is what we consider the best, or at least easiest, method of earning BCCs. We highly encourage users to join us in chat for a chance at games or the ability to use the chat-bot in order to earn BCCs without the necessity of RP!
