hm... Cornelia Funke's Thief Lord was pretty good
of course, Edgar Allen Poe, "such as a watch makes when enveloped in cotton"
Daphne du Maurier

Terry Pratchet

Kim's starting to fall victim to the creeping romance plots, I've noticed. The first two books were great, the third meh, forth pretty good, but by the fifth it's more vampire/witch/demon sexual tension than I really wanted.
try reading a Mary Higgins Clark book sometime, they are great

Right now, I love Ann Patchett. Her writing can be a bit slow in the beginning, but it's really beautiful.

Oh, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes) heart Also, pretty much ANY writer of a "classic" and Marcus (?) Zuzak (The Book Thief - simply marvelous)
