Despite the threat of the twins being at the party, Rain couldn't help but be caught up in the moment when Emery took charge over their dance. She took a moment to enjoy it and push everything out, even for just a brief moment. It felt nice to feel normal again. She wondered if this reminded him of old times passed since they were doing a waltz, and let's face it, who really does that anymore? When she closed her eyes for a moment, she imagined what it would have been like back then. And if maybe he had a mistress back then...
That quick thought returned her back to reality and made her focus. Nope, not going there. Not the time, and a ridiculous thought, and if he did so what? That was forever ago. Shouldn't matter. They had work to do anyways.
But the next thing she knew, he was leading her to a table overlooking the floor and Rain felt a surge of gratitude as she plopped onto an elegant chair - very unlady like. She kicked off her high heels and decided if she needed to move quickly, she would probably be better bare feet then in those damn things. She followed Em's gaze that was intently watching the twins. They didn't seem to be causing trouble, but one of them seemed to be confused, reaching his hand out now and again to the finger foods. Hmm.
"Ok," she replied to Emery. "I won't argue." She chuckled a bit and scanned the crowd. Her hand reached out over the table to grasp his, part of it out of love, but most of it just to appear like they were just there for the party. As she scanned the crowd her gaze fell on a woman that stood out quite a bit in her outfit. She was wearing a brown military outfit... What in the world...
Her brain was trying to think, the cogs churning desperately to make everything fall into place. But exhaustion kept holding the memory back from her. She knew her... she was quite sure...
And then suddenly her grasp on Emery's hand tightened.
"Elsa." Which meant... Her hand tightened even more on Emery, not thinking that maybe it would hurt him, but focused more on her heartbeat growing more rapid in her chest. "Veritas... We... We haven't seen him since... Abel..."
She found herself on her feet without remembering ever thinking to do such a thing. She stared across the dance floor at his back. The smell of almonds hung in the air and she felt like it was going to suffocate her. "Em... He might know..." She trailed off, not realizing she wasn't making much sense.
As soon as she was on her feet she was sitting back down in a daze. "Never mind." She didn't want to know if he knew where Abel was. She didn't want to know right then if he was alive or dead. She didn't want to have to face any of that. So she simply stared across the dance floor at him, reaching her hand back over onto Emery's, this time there was no doubt that it was out of love and the need for comfort.
