You may've noticed that the thread is done in a way that OOC and IC posts are in the same thread. This is odd for a literate RP. I understand this. This RP has been very successful, however, and I know what works for it. You're perfectly allowed to state your feelings on the matter, but the honest truth is that the OOC and IC will continue to be in the same thread. I can give you a smorgasbord of reasons why, if you feel the urge to ask. I know it can get a little disorganized at times, but it only takes like thirty seconds to go through a persons recent posts and find the one that you need to respond to. If you need help finding out how to do this, again, ask. I can assure you that to most of the people in the RP, the pros of having OOC and IC together vastly outweigh the cons. Ask around, most people will tell you the same thing. ON THIS SAME TOKEN, please, don't spam up my thread with OOC when you aren't even posting. If you're having conversation in OOC, I expect you to be contributing to the IC side of things too. I will warn you if I see problems with this, and if it continues, we're going to have to work out another solution.

HERE'S THE STORY -

LONG, LONG AGO //
The Belles were once an incredibly well-known crime family, in the golden age of organized crime, the twenties. Once, they were centered in Florence, in Northern Italy, but they promptly moved to the United Stats when the economy crashed, thinking it would be better there. In a way, they were correct. Americans were easier to swindle, and the Belles made a living of it, growing larger and larger, spanning the entire nation, but finding their home finally in California. In the fifties, s**t hit the fan. The Belles had gone for so long, without any competition, something was bound to go wrong. The Valentines, a Sicilian family which had long served the Belles, primarily as bodyguards, grew more ambitious with every year. Eventually, in 1958, Giuseppi Valentine led a coup de gras. More than half of the original Belle family was wiped out. To this day, members of the Belles with actual Belle blood remain few and far between, due to the massacre. Naturally, the mutiny didn't sit well with a good portion of the other families who'd been working with the Belles, and the Valentines suffered some considerable backlash. The Belles rose up into a group of people from different backgrounds, who upheld the old ways, and the Valentine family became their adversaries until the end. Neither side is good, neither side is bad. Giuseppi, the current Valentine Don's grandfather by blood, was brutally captured, tortured and publicly murdered before he reached the ripe age of fifty. It's been blow for blow, tit for tat, since that fateful day in 1958.

WHERE EVERYONE'S AT //
(details in the 'Outlook' post.)
Currently, the Belles reside in a huge mansion on the outskirts of the city, overlooking the skyline, from above, against the bottom edge of a nearby mountain. It’s rather spacious for the number of Belles that choose to occupy it. It is surrounded in the newest technology of “invisible shock fences,” as well as the more old fashioned, austere black latticework fence. The Valentines occupy a decent sized three-story penthouse downtown, above an upscale hotel and casino, accessible only by a private elevator with fingerprint access. The living there is cramped, for a group so used to so much space, and a little closer to the action than anyone really wanted. On both sides, life in Verona is going to have to take some getting used to.

CHOOSE YOUR FAMILY -

THE VALENTINES' ATTITUDE //
The Valentines are a more modern kind of mafia. They are loosely connected to loyalties, and “the family,” at least enough to be able to separate themselves from the gangs. There is no code of ethics in the Valentines though, not when dealing with each other, or with anyone else. There is one rule. Listen to the Don. The Valentines are very much a dictatorship, but because of this, they are often seen as impulsive, as they follow whatever rash decisions the Don makes. The Valentines live in sleek, modern simplicity. Their living space is always filled with mirrored glass windows, black marble floors, and crimson wall accents. They give off the most exclusive air, out of the two mafias, and they are more likely to threaten than to bribe. The Valentines rely on scare tactics, direct violence, and torture to achieve their means. They are very good at what they do, but the weakness of this is that the decisions that the Valentines make are often irreversible. They represent the brawn, to the Belles’ brains, but are perseverant in their attempts to outsmart the other mafia. Training is much more focused, and if someone seems to not be strong enough to stay, they are discarded, brutally. To the Valentines, survivors are dangerous: They don’t take prisoners.

THE BELLES' POISE //
The Belles are a throwback to the twenties mobsters. They have a code of ethics when it comes to “the family,” and they’re very proud and are concerned with loyalty, above all else. The style of the Belles is elegant and lavish. The living space of the Belles is always filled to the brim with white suede couches, blue velvet draperies, and dark mahogany floors. They live an opulent life, but are quietly as exclusive as the Valentines, if not, more. The higher ups in the Belles are more likely to bribe than to threaten. Also, the Belles are more of a hierarchy than a dictatorship; sure, the don has the final say in everything, but the Capos, and Underboss are all active conspirators. This can be seen as a weakness at times, when a decision cannot be reached, and they wait too long for the perfect moment. The Belles are known for being sly, cunning, and quick, and are not usually involved with full scale, head on attacks. Perhaps because of this, the Belles’ forces generally are not as strong in skills and techniques of battle, and between an average Valentine soldier, and an average Belles soldier, in a “fair fight,” the Belle would most likely lose. That is what separates the Belles from the Valentines though: rarely do they ever play fair.

THE VALENTINE PENTHOUSE //
The Valentine penthouse is located in downtown Verona, at the top of a modern, expensive hotel and casino by the name of "The Mint," on the fiftieth floor. The penthouse is actually 3 floors in and of itself, including the rooftop terrace.There is an express VIP elevator in the lobby, when, once fingerprint scanned, will take any of the Valentines directly to the top.

THE BELLE MANSION //
The Belle mansion is situated a few miles outside the city, to the east. It is a waterfront property on a small lake, and it overlooks the city from the base of a nearby mountain.
There are various other mansions in the area, each more than a mile away from each other. The Belle mansion is gated off with a fine wrought iron fence and the finest invisible electro-defense systems available.

THIS IS IMPORTANT!!! //
This is a feature where story updates will be kept. There will be an ongoing plot which will be affected by character decisions and such. A NEW FACTION ARRIVED ;;
A new group is moving into Verona, lead by Giovanni Valentine, Nikki Valentine's father. Giovanni hates the Belles and the Valentines (having been replaced as Don with his own son,) and after awhile of biding his time, he's back with his own group to take over both families. The group is referred to as the Assailants. Underneath Giovanni, there are four officers, informally referred to as the Horsemen. Bianca, Leon, Reese and Vincent work closely under Giovanni, with great precision. The Assailants' meeting place is in the basement of a storage warehouse, located at the bay on the south side of town. There is a service elevator with an access code to bring them down into a bunker-like structure lit by fluorescent lights, where extensive weapons rooms, a sparse office for Giovanni, a meeting room, various torture rooms and prison cells are located. Giovanni rules the Assailants with an iron fist, they are all act with militant obedience.

THE EX-UNDERBOSSES WERE ABDUCTED ;;
The first thing the Assailants did to make their presence known was to abduct who they thought to be the Underbosses of both the Belles and the Valentines. Felix Badeau was captured, as was Bleu Smith, who, to Giovanni's knowledge had been the Belle's last capo. The families immediately suspect one another in the capture of their officers.

THE VALENTINES ******** EVERYTHING UP ;;
The Valentines immediately suspected the Belles in the capture of Felix. The don Nikki, ordered an attack on the Belle mansion. It was, however, lost in translation when his assassin and capo (at the time,) Fatale Desire forwarded the message. She twisted his plan from waiting until dark for a full out attack, to attacking the Belle underboss, Mordecai Finn, while he was out of the mansion. She sent Scott Pryce, Geronimo Valentine, and Isabelle Fiore over to distract Mordecai while she disguised herself and sneaked into the mansion. Stacatto, the Belle don, accepted her visit and had a lengthy conversation with the Valentine capo about her failing romance with her don, and her overall misery.

THE BETRAYAL IS DISCOVERED ;;
Nikki realized too late, what Fatale had done. In a fury, he left the penthouse, and picked up Geronimo from where the Valentine soldiers had barricaded Mordecai into a shop front. The two men drove to the mansion, and promptly shot the guards at the gate and broke in. The Belles were quick to retaliate, and Geronimo had to stay outside to fight a couple Belles. Nikki, meanwhile slipped into the mansion. The Valentine don quickly found Fatale and Stacatto and all sorts of violence ensued. After broken ribs, scratches, pistol-whipping, and a very close call for the Belle don, Mordecai showed up, having broken away from the Valentine soldiers. It was not Mordecai who finished the fight though, it was Fatale. According to Stacatto's plans, Fatale had turned on her own don, and shot him in the knee.

MEANWHILE, OUTSIDE THE MANSION ;;
Scott followed Mordecai to the mansion in Isabelle's car, which he crashed through the front of the Belle mansion without a second thought. He ran into Geronimo when he got to the mansion. Geronimo had been shot, stabbed and roughed up, but was still fighting the Belles outside. Sufficed to say, he was happy to see Scott. The two ventured into the mansion to find Nikki and Fatale. Shortly after they did so, the front windows of the mansion were shot out. Everyone rushed downstairs to see what was going on.

THE ASSAILANTS ARRIVE ;;
The assailants had arrived to make their presence known, completely caught off guard by all the violence at the Belle mansion. They made it very clear to the Belles and to the Valentines that it was they who had Felix and Bleu, and their terms? A switch. The only way the Assailants would set Felix and Bleu free alive, would be if they got a hold of the dons (spoiler alert, both the underbosses ended up murdered.) The assailants then left without another word, detonating a series of charges around the Belle mansion as they went. It wasn't long before the Valentines also left, defeated and pissed off, and the Belles called people to repair their ruined mansion. As a result of all of the shuffling that went around on the Valentine's side, some ranks were given and taken away. Fatale dropped from a capo to a soldier. Geronimo went from a soldier to the underboss.

LATER AT THE MINT ;;
The party gets starrteddd. Amelia, Geronimo and Isabelle get shitty on the roof of the Mint. Major flirtation goes an between Geronimo and everyone - and Gero proceeds to stand Isabelle up after everyone else leaves. Isabelle was not amused one bit. Everyone recovers like normal balanced human beings at the Belle mansion - which is nearly repaired by the next morning.

SPEAKING OF THE MORNING AFTER ;;
Domino, a minor drug dealer comes home (drunk) and requests to meet with Nikki over coffee. Later, Fatale interprets this meeting as a date and gets pissed. Nikki and Fatale argue in the parking garage - and five minutes later, Fatale is swiped by Bianca and Leon in an Escalade. A high speed car chase ensues between the Escalade and Spencer and Nikki. Eventually, they hit traffic - when they get to the Verona Bridge. Bianca causes an accident. The Escalade flips around but everyone manages to get out alive, and Spencer's car goes off the bridge into the river. Fatale finds her way to the paramedics and is hauled off to the hospital, where Isabelle meets her and gets her released. The two girls head back to the Mint. Bianca and Leon crawl out of the wreckage and vanish into the crowd before anyone can carry them off in an ambulance. They eventually hijack a cab and make it back to the warehouse. Spencer's car sinks into the frigid water quickly - and the two men cannot escape due to the pressure of the water outside the vehicle. Nikki passes out once the car is completely submerged, but Spencer manages to hold his breath until the pressure equalizes and he hauls Nikki to the surface. Both men somehow make it ashore but are unconscious for the next hour or so. Geronimo hears the accident over the phone and he, Amelia, and Scott rush to the scene of the accident - and then, deciding there's nothing they can do, go back to the Mint. Geronimo is automatically made Don, and he promptly fires Isabelle and makes Amelia his Underboss. Amelia does some cocaine and then she and Geronimo have sex. Afterwards, Isabelle rushes in and starts shooting at them both in a fit of jealousy - which Geronimo responds to by deleting her fingerprints from the security database.

THE BELLES ARE WAY CHILL AS USUAL ;;
As this is going on, Stacatto is speaking with a new soldier, Jack Sinclair. Victoria, upon hearing the news at the penthouse, rushes over and tells Stacatto that Nikki has died. Stacatto sends Jack off to Giovanni's warehouse to arrange a meeting and his conversation with Victoria proceeds to go in that direction. Victoria, having once worked for Giovanni, agrees to vouch for Stacatto and try to get him a meeting with the man.

BUT ALAS - ALL IS NOT AS IT SEEMS ;;
Nikki gains consciousness first and after a moment, makes his way towards the Mint, from the river bank. He finds Spencer on the way - both have severe hypothermia. Annoyed with Spencer's behavior during the chase, Nikki shoots his companion point-blank in the forehead and continues towards the Mint. Also, far away, Jack pops his head into the Assailant warehouse just as Bianca and Leon are getting back from the wreck. Innocently, he tells them what he was sent to do - and they respond by bullying him, pistol whipping him and dragging his unconscious body down to Giovanni's office.

SOMEHOW, EVERYTHING GETS EVEN MORE ******** UP ;;
The morning of the next day, Amelia goes to partake in a drug deal against Geronimo's advice. Instead of meeting her dealer, she meets a bunch of Belles, including Stacatto as well as Bianca and Leon, from the assailants. Apparently the Belles and assailants have made some sort of deal to work together. Amelia is taken to the Belle mansion and tortured for hours. The last knuckle of her pinkie finger is cut off, the word "LIAR" is etched into her chest, and she is raped by Leon. The Belles resolve to use the pinkie finger to get through the Valentine fingerprint scanners and into the penthouse. In the chaos, the Valentine traitor, Victoria, returns to the basement to kill Stacatto, but only succeeds in injuring him, and getting herself killed. Leon and Bianca follow closely behind on a completely separate mission - they knock Stacatto out, and drag him along with Amelia to a car, where they stuff Stacatto into the trunk, and Amelia into the back seat, tied up. They make their way to the Mint, cause a lot of trouble - kill some innocents and get to the penthouse. The fight begins. Alexandra, a Belle, comes along and sees Amelia in the car and manages to get her out, but Amelia says nothing to her about the Belle don in the trunk.

THE VALENTINES GET A VISITOR ;;
Once up into the penthouse, Amelia shares her knowledge of the Belle don's capture. The treaty between the assailants and the Belles falls through - Bianca and Leon make it to the elevator, and so all the Belles (and Fatale) are redirected to the stairs. Begrudgingly, the don, Nikki follows to retrieve Fatale, annoyed with the obvious lack of recognition that she is actually working for the Valentines. The Belles are told to go home by Stacatto, who is being held at gunpoint by the assailants and Giovanni, Nikki's father. Nikki gets shot in the chest and Giovanni makes his way up to the penthouse - returning to his position as don. Fatale drags Nikki away and the two disappear. Geronimo and Mordecai (the two underbosses) have meanwhile, been fighting in a bar. Mordecai has lost and eye, and Geronimo has lost a good chunk of his memory. Geronimo is escorted up the elevator by Reese, and Mordecai is informed of Stacatto's order to go home. Giovanni gives Bianca and Leon the order to get rid of all of Nikki's belongings. He knocks Stacatto out and has someone drag the man upstairs to Nikki's office, where he plans to have a little talk. The assailants cease to exist - and become one with the Valentines.

THREE MONTHS PASS ;;
The Belle don Staccato has become the consigliere of the Valentines, and kept prisoner in the penthouse. Mordecai Finn and Jack Sinclair aren't even aware if Staccato is alive or not, but are trying to come up with a way to find out. Amelia is depressed and possibly suicidal. Over the course of a few months, there has been an ongoing Valentine investigation into the theft of a portion of their drug shipments. After some arguing (and revealing that Gero had been Nikki's biological father), Geronimo and Giovanni (along with Leon and a few others) go to the address they have been given. It is a residence in a trailer park, where they find the small-time drug dealer they were looking for (Dean), his something-like-a-girlfriend (Candy), and a few others. Leon chases Candy with an axe, but Candy manages to climb into her car and drive away. Giovanni pursues Dean, but in a fluke, gets kicked in the face by Dean as the kid attempts to scale a building. Dean and Candy manage to meet up and proceed to get very, very high. Meanwhile, Amadeo comes onto the scene and meets Soleria in the Belle mansion. The two hit it off, since they're both huge sluts. Also, Alec (a doctor) and Liam (a soldier) return to the Valentines after a long leave of absence. The two had been married, but are now divorced - which makes for one awkward elevator ride.

WOW TIME IS GOING SO FAST ;;
Two more weeks pass. Liam makes the mistake of seeking Giovanni out, who offhandedly orders him to take Staccato (who'd been pissing him off) and to go kill Mordecai at the Belle mansion. Ironically, Mordecai is simultaneously sending Jack to the penthouse. They've come up with an extremely dangerous, yet simplistic plan to reach Staccato by having Jack rent a room on the forty-ninth floor so he can scale the side of the Mint. The plan is to try to meet Staccato on the roof. Lucky for Jack that Staccato is already on the roof, less lucky for Jack is the fact that Liam is there with him, telling him about Giovanni's orders. Eventually Liam is distracted (by Alec's antics) and Jack can climb over the edge of the roof to speak with Staccato. Staccato doesn't have much time, but he warns Jack of Giovanni's plan and tells him to keep Mordecai somewhere he won't be found. Lastly, Jack is ordered to return to the roof at midnight that night.

THERE ARE SOME NEW PEOPLE ON THE SCENE ;;
Close by, a headstrong Russian by the name of Anastasya has been let into the penthouse to speak with Giovanni who has demoted Bianca and made the Russian a capo in her place. Anastasya is ordered to inform Bianca of the switch - Bianca responds with a drugged tantrum, which ends with her storming out of the mansion and getting hit with a car. The car happens to belong to Amadeo, who has been on something between a date and a rampage with Soleria, blowing up liquor stores and drunk driving all the way. Deo decides he likes Bianca better than Soleria, and drags her into his car, discarding Soleria (who in a strange twist, was just a blow-up doll the whole time) into the backseat. Geronimo and Nikki observe Bianca's kidnapping but do nothing to stop it. Oh, that's right - Nikki's alive apparently, and is returning to the penthouse for reasons that are presently unclear.

BETRAYAL ... OR IS IT? ;;
After having a full-blown shouting match (mostly on the topic of infidelity) with his ex-husband, Liam storms down to the weapons room, followed by Staccato. Liam and Staccato bicker the entire way to the Belle mansion. Once there, Liam - on a whim - decides that the best way to get through the gate is to hold Staccato hostage. Somehow, this works and the two make it to the mansion. Jack was unsuccessful in distracting Mordecai, so the two are met outside by a couple of Belles (Mordecai, Jack, Sera, & Heather.) Liam is promptly knocked out by Mordecai. It becomes clear to the Belles that Staccato is not a captive, but is apparently doing Giovanni's bidding. Instead of killing Mordecai, Staccato shoots Heather - which throws Mordecai into a blind rage. Staccato gets his a** kicked. The Belles despise him - especially Jack. On the topic of Jack, there seems to be another abusive presence in his mind. He is descending into what seems to be psychosis. Mordecai is only stopped when Staccato tells him to, and then helps him up. Sera agrees to drive Staccato back to the Mint, but Liam has been taken prisoner. Amadeo is placed in charge of Liam's and Bianca's torture.

THERE ARE OTHER FORCES AT WORK ;;
Eliav, a deaf-mute, is introduced. He receives a text message from a mysterious source telling him that Heather is alive. In the chaotic aftermath of the fight, Eliav slips past the gates and finds Jack. He manages to communicate (by way of note-pad) that Heather is alive and that he knows of someone who will help. Jack speeds to the house of a shady doctor who manages to save Heather's life. Awhile later, Jack and Eliav make it back to the mansion. Jack leaves Heather a note telling her to call him when she wakes up, and slips out of the mansion, still with the intention of meeting Staccato at midnight. THERE ARE THREE DIFFERENT PROFILE SKELETONS // You will need to fill out two for each character. There is a very, VERY brief one for the front page, where you'll need to make a 100 x 100 icon for your character's appearance. That's the hardest part though. The rest is entirely self-explanatory. This one should be filled out AFTER you send me the main profile for your character. This mini-profile will be posted on the post under this one, and I will make the icon click-able. It will redirect straight to the main profile in the proper character thread.


PERMANENT CHARACTERS ;;
There are two types of character in this RP, permanent, and temporary. First off let it be known that an RPer must have a permanent character before they can take on any sort of temporary. You have two choices when making a permanent character : Belle or Valentine. There are no other types of characters on the permanent side of things. The must be associated with one of the two main families. As the name suggests, permanent characters will be used more frequently than temporary characters, and they will last longer. A single RPer can have up to TWO permanent characters.

TEMPORARY CHARACTERS ;;
Temporary characters are, first and foremost: temporary. They will not last. If I think that a temporary character is hanging around for too long, I will tell you to kill them off or make them disappear. If you do not listen to me, I will do it myself. Temporary characters are expendable. The good thing about temporary characters is that, while they can be Belles or Valentines as well, they can ALSO be police officers, double agents, reporters, arms dealers, members of other active factions (that I have approved of,) etc... The temporary characters have a separate, slightly simplified profile skeleton, but you will still be required to fill out the shortest 100 x 100 icon profile for the front page. NOW, in the case that for any reason, you do not want to kill off a temporary, you have an option. If you have only one permanent character, then great, you can have your temp join a main faction and become a permanent character. End of story. if you have two permanent characters, however, you're going to have to make a switch, and turn one of your permanent characters temporary. If you choose to do this, you will have to redo both character's profiles accordingly. A single RPer may have a maximum of two temporary characters.
