( Tenack: You really ought to! You're still important to the plot. x3 Me and Slait might have to dig back a coupla pages to see where we left off at, though... the ex-Demolitionists are still in control of Aekea, are they not?

Boogie: Pah! x'D Yeah, that happens, dude. Items just kinda shoot up in price time and time again. It's hard to keep up! I still have a metric crapton of 'spensive items I don't use that I wanna sell... )

(( I'm finding that playing the marketplace is a lot easier if you have, you know, gold... I've made like 75m since I last posted. surprised

I feel like I should invest a couple hundred dollars in the stock market or something. Who wants to buy a bunch of Syrian pounds with me? They've lost so much of their value since this war started, and I figure that there has to be some sort of economic stimulus in the works... ))

Captain Jessie Hawk

( Holy crap. Guys. o___o Well, Jesse in particular. I was looking up pirate-themed items and I found Widow of Zheng, which is pretty rad, since she's the wife of a historical pirate lord. But that's not all!

The pirate in question, Zheng Zhilong, had a second name he was known by: Nicholas Iquan Gaspard. 'Zat name sound familiar to you...? )

Chiharu shrugged, like an island crawling with armed thugs was just another tuesday. "I got s**t to do here!" She explained, looking up at the yokai, both of whom dwarfed her by over a foot.
As she peered up at them, waiting for an explanation, it dawned on her. And her smile fell a bit. "You're not…here for me, right?"

Jiro could smell the aggression beginning to emanate off his daughter, and he sighed quietly, through his nose. He hadn't said a word, and she was already gearing herself up to have a fight with him. Truly, he'd never met such a deviant child, but fury was in her nature as a yokai. How could a mere half-human learn to temper such a thing in only 24 years?
"Chiharu, you cannot stay here. Even I am not eager to remain on this island longer than I-"

"Excuse me, but ******** YOU. I have. s**t. To do."

Raku's brow furrowed, and the wrinkles in his forehead showed, as they often did when he grew agitated. Already, with barely any words between the two, he was sensing a sharp confrontation between father and daughter. "Look 'Haru, I know you hold a duty to the Gambino corporation," Raku tried to be diplomatic, but found it difficult to veil his fury in lieu of her stubbornness, "But it ain't just your dad who's asking. Your mom, Yuki, everybody back home can't sleep at night 'cause they're all worrying about you."
It was difficult to trade bites with essentially the most authoritative figure in the district. Even under the watch and protective of the GPD and the pirates, no living being outranked the spymaster, and he could see her charisma practically radiating from her apple-red head. Wherever this stealthy raccoon-girl was heading tonight, it was no doubt en route to fry bigger, better fish.

"'Last I checked, your job was to spy! Not enforce! Have you looked around, the island's peace is being kept by pirates!"

'And what's wrong with pirates...?' Not far off, Lee Enfield was watching the confrontation, as if he had foreseen it. Firing up a cigarette and his phone, he rung up Fortuna, but received no answer. He stared blankly into the screen, wondering, worrying.
'What is she up to...?'

From within the bustling casino, a girl, greatly contrasting the other sin-dwellers, mirrored the island around her. Draped in a comfortable sundress, she enjoyed the magic show from afar, her inner child brimming through endless claps and fiery cheers. She was Cainan's very own cheerleader, no doubt much to his chagrin.

"Horray! Wrestle with the wild, fearless hunter!" She exclaimed, throwing a loud whistle in there somewhere. In the way she spoke, there was no telling if she meant Cainan or the beast. Maybe both? "Your ancestors would be proud. emotion_bigheart "

Chiharu's teeth ground loud enough for both yokai to pick up. On the list of things she hated, not much ranked higher than her step-father's macho "let me protect your little virgin a** with my great lordship" bullshit. One of those things was when Raku or Yuki added their own oldworld voices to the mix. They were supposed to be her friends, yet now and again they felt the need to demonstrate where loyalties truly lay.

She was only half drunk, and in no mood. A crisp, cold gust hit the four of them from the left, Chihar cracking her fingers at her sides. Fights with her step-father never got physical, but hell if she wasn't in the perfect place mentally to lay either of them out.
"Sorry you came so far for nothing. I'd hate to endanger the delicate lordship." She mocked, and Jiro didn't bat an eye. Her insults always rolled off his back without even a wince, and it had always pissed her off. He could have the decency to get angry, but it was like she was a five-year-old. The things she said were cute, but meant nothing to him.

"You of all people" looking at Raku, "should know I am more than capable of laying out a few pirates.'

"And your mother as well." Jiro said calmly, and Chiharu winced.

In an instant, Raku found his internal temperature knocked off the scale, his heat robbed of him. It was a chill he knew well, that of Yuki-Otoko. It seemed, in her years of self-professed exile, she'd harnessed her teacher's power thoroughly, and to her own liking. Hugging his arms to his chest, he fought against Chiharu's cold knowing full-well that it was only, metaphorically and physically, the tip of the iceberg.

"Cool it, kid," Raku had wished he'd made a better choice of words. "We just came to talk, not fight. All that power stored up in you is gonna attract some unwanted attention." The paranoid dog tried to explain, keeping a precious ear-out for any suspicious neerdowells. Approaching her, he set his firm arms upon her shoulders, in attempt to divert her anger. And in whisper, he brought peace.

"This isn't about pirates. This is about something bigger. And if you show too much of your power, they're gonna know you're here. Look, even your dad had to put a lid on his power to come here. It's not safe for us... it's not safe for yokai." The komainu paused, and not a second later cracked a snicker. This whole situation was feeling all the more familiar by the second, only a good hundred years too late.
;I'm sure you've gotten this a thousand times, but you remind me a lot of myself, kid.' He had thought, 'Unafraid to throw yourself into chaos.' To his own betrayal, his hands slid helplessly down his cub's arms, completely removing himself from her.

Chiharu leaned in to Raku, conspiratorial. It was a gesture she never would have offered Jiro, and maybe that’s why he was hanging back like the new kid at lunch.
What her guardian said...well, it opened more questions than it closed. “Not safe for Yokai...? Why? Who? Why wasn’t I told?” It wasn’t a game; the spymaster was well and truly the last one to hear. But then, that must be what happens when you ditch your desk in favor of a barely-legal and a basket of bad habits. Nevertheless, Raku had enough of her trust that she dialed back with the temperature drop. She wasn’t packing her bags for Hotaru yet, but he had her intrigued.

By now, Jiro knew better than to try to help Raku in matters of his daughter. Despite his best efforts, he had none of her trust, while his retainers had earned her devotion. Still, his ears perked while he listened. He wished he could be the one to tell her about Zero, about his...they called themselves a “family”. When I child is told that the boogyman is real...it really should be the father doing the telling.

Raku 'came green in the face, sweat beading off him like a cornered puppy, much less the big tough wolf he'd ought to be. Even in his years post-rescue from the Zodiac project, the okami never truly felt safe on the isles. No longer protected by the combined efforts of the Four Families, the wolf could practically smell the growing shadow cast out across the islands.
For years he stuck close by Chiharu, under his watchful eye, defending her from the home-brewed enemy. But with her brief (albeit extended) stay in Durem, all seemed well and fine 'till an even finer breed of evil reared its ugly head. It seemed that, no matter where they went, the darkness of this mysterious threat would follow.

Everywhere but the Hotaru stronghold, that is.

"Chiharu..." He had said too much already. He held a passing glance at Jiro behind him, as if asking to disclose information to his one and only daughter. "Let's just say... the family you work for isn't the only one doing shady business on the islands. There's a whole myriad of groups working in the Gambino islands," Raku would explain. "The Nativ and the Moerae you already know about, but the islands have proven to be effective hideouts for those who dabble in the most reclusive of dark arts..."

It was hard to explain in secret, knowing full well that Jiro's acute hearing could read every word that came from their petty mouths. There was not a whisper weak enough that the kitsune lord could not hear.
