"Thanks for clarifying. I know about demons, but I haven't met any. It's like reading and studying about a far away place, but once you actually go there it's new and confusing." Melise said, making the girl chuckle a little. She had never thought of it that way, and considering this was the first human she had met that wasn't trying to kill her, she could understand the meaning.
"I know what ya mean. I thought all humans were... well... evil, I guess would be a nicer word. We were always told to be wary of them, but never really had to be, since we lived on our own. It wasn't until that little girl was brought over to play that things turned out bad. I thought humans were pretty nice, the girl seemed nice enough at least. Then the entire town came by, and well, you know the rest. So the fact that you're human, and I'm trusting you is... hard. I'm still paranoid, don't get me wrong, but something about you. Don't know what it is, but I feel I can trust you. Gut instinct maybe, I'm not sure..." she said with a smile, lifting her head from the window as the engine was cut, and her door was opened.
She undid the seat belt as Melise spoke, and accepted the arm that was held out for her, holding onto it gently with thin fingers and wobbling for a second, grabbing the blanket to throw over her head to block out most of the rain as an afterthought. With a slam the door was shut and they were off.
They made their way slowly to the door, her steps unsteady and her bare feet sore. She hesitated before entering, a slight resistance to the arm supporting her, but she forced herself to go in. Once they made it inside-- and thankfully out of the rain, which had brought back her headache with a vengeance-- she gave a sigh. With the light rain pattering on the roof, and outside the windows, she could finally get a good look at her rescuer. Turning her head to look up at the woman, she was surprised to see that she was smiling, the sight through her mind's eye done in simple lines and contours, and yet unmistakably, there was a smile on her lips. She looked around a bit, and noticed there were a few people in the Inn; habit made her shrink back a little, as if to hide behind the woman supporting her, her shoulders hunching a little as the blanket slid from her head to settle draped around her shoulders.
