❝ And we'll never be royals ▪ It don't run in our blood ❞

Lyvia had heard his reply even as she got out the car and stored the name away for later use. For now, she was focused on the on goings in the alley. Most women would have gasped at the blood and violence, but Lyvia only watched in dismay. Being part demon and part nymph always left her in conflict. The demon part of her loved the chaos and bloodshed, while the nymph part of her wanted to weep in sorrow. A small sigh escaped the fox's lips as she mulled over what to do. Either way it would cause some form of trouble for her later. Thankfully, Zeke seemed to catch the hint that she wanted to help. To her surprise, he placed his coat around her shoulders which caused her to blink up at him for a moment. Did he sense she was cold? Or was she just a coat rack? Either way she didn't mind.

Leaving her behind, Zeke stalked forward and proceeded to bust the face of a man nearest him. That caused Lyvia to wince slightly, but only slightly. That was a damn good sucker punch. Next, her owner called out to the man currently being over whelmed and asked if he needed assistance. That was a big 'duh' to Lyvia but they waited for a reply none the less. Zeke had probably done so out of caution to make sure the man knew they were not enemies. The man's answer was of no surprise. He was frustrated and concentrating. Lyvia doubted his harsh words had any effect on Zeke. However, something was odd about this man. After his first outburst, he began to speak to himself..well..more like argue, then finally he attempted to apologize for his earlier words.

A small smile pulled the corners of Lyvia's mouth. His words sounded old, like something out of a book. Perhaps he wasn't from this time? It wasn't an out of this world idea since this place had been topside-turvie ever since Cain and Abel's battle. During her muse, however, a few of the punks in the back had turned towards her and Zeke. She was sure Zeke's involvement and shouting had gotten their attention. Flattening her ears against her skulls, she noticed most went after Zeke but two broke off to come after her. Not caring that she was a female, one swung a pipe in her direction, forcing her to jump back and out of range. The other man came from the left side and he wielded a short knife of sorts. Lyvia could probably dodge them all day since her body was quick and nimble, but that would get her no where.

As soon as the pipe wielding one was back in range, Lyvia ducked down and kicked a leg up to collide with his wrists. She didn't break anything, but it was enough force to make him let go of the weapon. Catching the steel as it fell, Lyvia found her feet and began to use the pipe like a katana. First she slammed the length into the man's shoulder then turned and used the hilt to knock him in the gut, forcing the breath out of him. She wasn't aiming to kill, just to stun or knock out. This pleased both bloodlines. The demon enjoyed her violence while the nymph was happy she held back. The first man was on the ground shortly so now Lyvia was forced to square off the with knife wielder.

Azrael sighed thinking that he wished he had some popcorn. This was turning into quite a show. He wasn't quite sure how, but his wing twitched. it was an odd sensation. Much like that of a ghost limb. It wasn't really there, so it shouldn't have had any connection to his brain, and there for no reason to twitch. While he thought about he noted the girls ability to fight as she did. Then he realized something. She wouldn't be able to keep fighting in the dust. Sure. He was able to keep most of the rubble from falling, but that didn't stop the dust. Mumbling about having to help, he got ready to launch in to help, but then she was gone. He cursed loudly, before looking around. He saw he in the sky, and falling. He would need to catch her. However, he would need a distraction. He wasn't aware of the being below's capabilities and that meant not taking chances.

Reaching into his jacket, Azrael grabbed a flash bang and tossed it into the area where he remembered creature to be and shot into the air with his wings. The first time, he went to grab her, he missed. He had mistimed it and flew under her. As he whipped around, he cursed again, and shot back, catching her around the height of the tops of buildings and landed on one of them, as he tossed another flash bang onto the road. "You know Sipora, since you can't fly you should avoid being thrown into the air. Let me give you some help." Grabbing his deck, he quickly sorted through it, until he found one with a glowing light green rune. Throwing it into the road, it disintegrated and quickly the wind kicked up, blowing away the dust. "I saw his trick with the metal plate. Take another clip for the pistol. It used armor piercing rounds. Golems pull have the same resistance, being made from clay and rock. Anyways, behind you there's a ladder to the alley, leading back to the road. Be quick. I'd rather not have this one escape. " Flying into the air again, he moved on top of the rubble suspended above the road. With his wings being in direct light, they shown bright as the sun again.

Ermend Gastler

Ermend didn't anticipate too much, but then again, this entire place was falling apart. He hardly batted an eye at the gleam of fangs the abnormal flashed him as he walked by. He certainly wasn't going to respond, that only agitated people, and everyone's fuse was on edge as it was.

He wondered if leaving the apartment was really any better than simply staying. Out here, the people were even more rambunctious, walking targets en mass for the brutal sadists walking among them. At least in hotel hallways and homes, they were hidden, subject only to the intent killers as opposed to the wandering sadists. He could care less over the massive fireball that splashed onto the street, aside from the fact that it was one of the few things left in this world that could kill him.

He hurried his pace, trying to move away from the fire, knowing that something like fire trucks were totally ineffective. The normals had learned a long time ago it was much better to let the abnormals just do their things, well, expect for the hunters. Then again, everyone was panicking and there was a hugeass fireball ravaging the streets, but what was the point. Sure, someone could rig an irrigation system to rain on it, or a kindly abnormal could put the fire out, but who cared? The sadists would just start another fire because why not? It was pointless to fight, and so he simply ran away from it, hoping to evade any more incidents, pushing random panicking people out of the way.

He was lucky to avoid being caught on fire, but he also knew unless someone was ballsy enough to start using a flamethrower in this foul year of the Lord, he would be more or less fine. True, getting another article of clothing was a pain to integrate, and the ritual was already annoying to perform, but it was better than dying. Still, despite near immortality, Ermend help so utterly powerless in this entire situation. He nudged a few men on their way, gesturing vaguely to the fire.

"Why doesn't everybody just move? ********, this city is a bigger slaughterhouse than...anywhere."

He really wondered why he even bothered.

Malthus
Raven LaFell; The Reaper

I'm fine in the fire, I feed on the friction....

Malthus stood on the roof of a tall building, looking down on the ignorant humans that were running around below him, trying to put out the magical fires with water. He laughed mirthlessly, shaking his head at the sight. They reminded him of cockroaches, with they way they moved and ran from the flames, as if someone had turned on a bright light in a previously dark room. However, he quickly realized that tormenting the humans was not going to bring him much pleasure at all. What he really wanted, the main desire that was coursing through his veins, was the hunters. Oh, how he wanted to get his hands on a few of them! They were the reason for his long imprisonment...the hatred that pulsed through him so fiercely, but it wasn't only them. The rest of the abnormals...the fools that they were...trying to stay hidden, to save themselves from human persecution. Didn't they understand their own power? Did they not see how easy it would be for them to subject the resistant humans to enslavement, to utterly destroy their wills and bend them to their own desires? It was this thought, more than anything else, that drove him to seek such destruction. How could they not see it? It was pity, he realized, they stopped them from destroying the scum that scuttled about the streets of this realm...it had to be. Why else would the other races not just rise up and put them down?

"You're all fools..." Malthus said angrily to the wind. "....and your foolishness will lead to your own destruction. If not by the hands of humans, than by the hands of your own kind." He spat upon the roof, a low growl reverberating out from his throat. If he couldn't convince the rest of them to destroy the scum, then he would group them with the scum and beat them into submission. One way or another, this war would end...and he fully intended to be at the very top of the food chain. This world, this realm, would be his...or at least serve as a replacement for the realm that had been taken from him so long ago. Nothing, and no one, would be allowed to stand in his way. Destruction, genocide, was the cleansing fire that lead to a world of chaos and freedom. Both of which were foremost in his mind....and he would introduce this concept to them all...he would show them all the power of absolute chaos! His eyes flashed as he looked around, taking in the other rooftops and the activity that seemed to liven the rest of the city. From his vantage point, he could almost see it all....he could almost hold the world in his hand, or so he felt. The wind blew the bottom of his trenchcoat around his ankles as he continued to gaze upon the destruction below him, completely lost in his own thoughts.

              Threat Level X

...I'm right where I should be, Don't try and fix me.

Zeke
The Underground Merchant
╚══════════════╝

There was a brief moment, when Zeke stared at the man and, if he had had the ability, would have seared him on the spot with his glare. Whether he was alluding to the wolf as a coward meant nothing. The fact was that he thought he was and that made the hairs on the back of his neck bristle. The following words that left the man he had barely heard as he ducked a punch thrown by another man and narrowly missed a metal bar swung at his head, by yet another man, as he came back up.

“Love? Um... Not sure who you’re talking to but—“ he paused ducking again as the same man with the same metal bar swung at his head again. [******** right off buddy, he thought becoming rather annoyed as a growl left his lips from deep within his chest. He snatched the pipe after several moments of scuffling with the man and promptly whacked him with it. It made a satisfying crunch as it both broke the man’s nose and knocked him out cold. Feeling rather pleased with himself he took only the briefest of moments to glance toward Lyvia, why was beyond him. Perhaps to make sure no one was going after her. An odd thing for him to do, really. The thought did occur to him that he could have used the runes and put her to work, but then again... She was wearing the shortest dress known to man. As much as he would like to see her skills for himself, he certainly didn’t want to see other things at the same time. Although, it didn't seem to phase her, considering she was there... fighting and doing it rather well despite the dress. Again, he wondered at the admiration he felt. Lord help him, he was going soft.

He heard the man apologized and grinned, turning to and saying at the same time, “Well alright then, now we’ve made—“ when he had turned completely he was surprised by a rather large, perhaps even bordering on fat man collide with him and knock him to the ground. The weight of the man knocked the wind from his chest, leaving him momentarily dazed. Well ********], he thought. Maybe I should have just kept going. "Buddy, you're really pissing me off," he managed to say as he fended off the attempts to strangle him while trying to remove the glutton from atop him.

Sipora had already noted a few things about this creature. First was that he was using an ability based in shadow or darkness. That she could deal with as Veritas had something similar. This didn't make it any easier of course. That sort of power was one of the hardest to counter. She needed light and the only source she had was the magic from giving her own life force temporarily. Her advantage would come at her body weakening for the fight. She could make a flash of violet light but that took a lot of juice and she couldn't risk it. The second thing she had noticed was that he was confident in himself. He had simply tried to drop a building on her when he could have torn her to shreds just as easily. He had turned that knife into razor strands after all. A building was harder to cut than flesh. This plus the facts that his lack of a real reaction to one of his targets being saved and his lack of movement to her distracting death trap told her he was a little too confident. Was there a reason for that?

Sipora heard her projectiles hit home and right away she knew something was wrong. She shouldn't have heard anything but the resounding thung of metal on metal followed by a screeching of metal warping reached her. The dust had been knocked back by her magical attack, allowing her to see and draw in a small partially clear breath. He had blocked her attacks with a steel plate type of material from the building. The semi auto hadn't done too much but one of her aces in the hole had done a decent amount of damage. Sipora held her calm face but was giving a vicious smile on the inside. It wasn't that she was (too) sadistic. She just loved when her plans worked. And now she knew the magnum would do damage against him. He wouldn't have opted for a shield otherwise because he had just absorbed the bullets the first time. He had gotten lucky and she still had five rounds without a need to summon more.

As the dust billowed back into place Sipora felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up. Her heart kicked up in pace and her skin broke out in goosebumps. That had happened only once before and that was before a sniper had tried taking her head off. He was serious now and was very much liking the idea of killing her. She could feel his want of her death. Sipora's body tensed. He couldn't have moved very far unless- and it was already too late. The sound of the footstep and his breath. So his powers were much closer to Veritas' than she had first thought. Had he opened a void or had he flown with his powers? No, she would have felt the disturbance in the dust. He had to be right behind her. She could spin and extended her blade. She didn't care if he did have darkness that could absorb things. A very sturdy blade resonating at a high speed would slice through anything physical. his powers, him, it would all be the same to her blade. Too bad she never had a chance thanks to the tenacity of his thinking. He punched her in the side with his fist, clipping her kidney. He wasn't too keen on the anatomy which was good. If he had landed that punch in her back it would have shocked and hurt much more. The bad part was the sharp pain radiating upward through the center of her body from the punch. Cheap and effective like any smart fighter would do but he didn't have much strength. Sipora knew how to fight and she knew what he was going for but even with this knowledge she couldn't stop it.

The gasp pulled in the concrete dust and instantly it was wet by the inside of her mouth and throat. This meant that it became thick and clingy to the surfaces of her body which was bad. It restricted breathing and caused choking or coughing fits. That just brought in more dust so if she didn't use liquid to clear her throat she was going to suffocate. Sipora had to compliment his execution but she wasn't going to take this laying down..well, she would try. Sipora fell to her knees and began to cough and choking, attempting to wretch anything she could while the process just made it worse. Where was that ******** with the cards!? Eating popcorn and watching her die slowly? The pain in her lungs burned like a fire next to the dulling pain from her kidney. Even so she could hear him speaking. She could locate him while he spoke! Even better he touched her! The hand holding her magnum flicked around under her arm to aim directly at his chest. Even with her pain she would happily take him with her. Before she could fire though everything was black. She had blacked out? Well that would be the first thought but her pain was still there as was her coughing. Light spilled in and fresh air reached her. Sipora dragged a deep breath in through her nose which had only partially been clogged. It afforded needed air but not enough clean with the dust already inside of her. She saw the sky which must have meant Veritas had made a timely appearance. Or not? She was falling. ********.

Sipora rolled as she fell, seeing Azrael flying by and almost colliding with her. Sipora was not about to go out alone. She was facing the ground now and her magnum was in the hand that could aim straight under the winds rushing at her. She aimed for that b*****d and fired off a violet blast of light as she was jerked in a catch. The round went wild by a few feet and probably hit the ground next to him unless he dodged into it. She could feel the landing and jumped out of his arms, prying at her belt for the silver flask near the back. She yanked it out and broke the top off with her left hand, the guns falling to the roof. Whiskey burned as it poured into her throat. She spat out the first tainted batch then swallowed the second. Fresh air for all it was worth and damn did that burn feel good. Sipora had been giving him a half hearted middle finger towards his comment now, hacking up what was left in her system and wretching the final bit up with her whiskey.

Now that she was alive and very angry she scooped up the guns and slipped one away to eject then inject the fresh mag into his gun. Personally she would rather just use both magnums with magic bullets but this could throw that guy off. She owed him a b***h slap for that kidney punch. She opened her mouth to speak and tell him his powers were dark or shadows based but he was gone. Sipora shook her head and took a breath before running for the ladder. How many times had she been that close to death? Too many apparently because she was running back towards it. Sipora rounded the corner with determined eyes. She had seen him in combat now she would be ready for him this time. With her weapons at the ready she circled quickly to be opposite of where Azrael would be.

As Phaestos’s head connected with the unfortunate man’s brow, he heard the satisfying crunch of the assailant’s nose turning into a geyser. Knowing that he was at least unconscious, Phaestos looked past the bodies, to find that no one was left standing. There were definitely bodies, however. He saw the trail of them leading to the spot where he stood, a couple at the feet of the scantily clad girl with the fox ears and a collar on her neck. His eyebrow raised at that one. But he had seen odder. Retrieving his shield and spear, he looked for the other, who seemed to disappear.

When he realized the truth of it, he tried not to laugh… and failed horribly.

What he assumed was a dead man the size of a small car was actually struggling to smother the man who came to his aid. Phaestos quickly made his way through the dead. When he arrived, he put his spear in its holster built into the shield and grabbed the folds of fat on the obese man's neck. With a heave, he lifted the man with one arm with enough force to leave a crater in the wall he crashed into. Phaestos heard the fallen rescuer gasp for breath, and offered his hand to aid him.

"Assistance provided is received with gratitude. My name be Phaestos Eliades."

There are your manners!

He looked to the sky and grumbled, "Now? Of moments to pick? Can I not finish greeting Love?"

Of course you can, proceed.

Glaring at the sky a moment longer, he turned to the girl, "Such fierce spirit in such diminutive form. Artemis herself would look upon you with favor. And the Goddess of the Hunt does not grant such prizes lightly. Gratitude is shared to you milady. Without benefit of such benevolant action, I might have slumbered once more until the time of the Breaking were upon us. What will you have me call your persons?"

Azriel watched the hooded elder leave with his prize before glancing down to the necklace now placed in his palm. He could feel the pulse of magic from within it and stared in awe at it's glowing aura. Still, they couldn't linger. Who knows the kind of enemies they would make once word spread about what had happened, not that many knew who had done it. Turning on his heels, Azriel faced Ansiel and placed the pendant around his sibling's neck. If anyone was going to use it it was going to be the youth of the two. Ansiel was less likely to do something reckless or get himself into trouble. Offering his sibling a small smile, Azriel patted his twin on the shoulder, causing Ansiel to look up from the ground. He was still pale faced and gripping Riva as if the scythe was holding him to the ground.

A small sigh escaped Azriel as he pulled his brother into a tight hug. "It'll be okay Ansiel. What that Isamu guy said really got to you huh?" At first, it didn't appear that Ansiel was going to reply, but a soft whisper did manage to escape him. "What we did is wrong.. We deserve to burn in hell for trading a man's life for a trinket." Leave it to his brother to make him feel guilty as well. Slightly irritated now, Azriel pulled back and ran a palm through his hair. "Goddamn it, Ansiel. Fine. We kept our end of this bargain, right? That doesn't mean we can't change out mind and rescue Isamu." That seemed to catch his brother's attention. Although he didn't smile, Azriel could tell Ansiel was content with that answer. Chuckling to him, the elder twin shook his head. "You are still a softy, even after becoming a blood sucker." This gained a chuckle from his look-a-like.

Releasing Riva for now, the weapon vanished as the brothers looked towards the direction in which the elder and his lackeys traveled. "They got a bit of a head start, but we might be able to track them, or at least leave a trail for any friends that might come looking." In response, Ansiel nodded and took off in that direction. Shaking his head, Azriel quickly followed after, knowing once his brother's mind was set on something, there was no turning back..and Azriel was suppose to be the stubborn one.

As soon as Ukina answered twins, Emery's memory flashed the image of the vampires at the party yesterday. He wasn't surprised that they had gotten involved since their notes had said they knew little about the Vampire Council. Obviously, someone had offered them something handsome for the cooperation. It was a pretty smart move since it would be harder to track someone outside of the VC. When Ukina pointed up the building they were last seen, Emery's mind once again began to turn. Did the twins part ways with the vampire elder or did he take them with him under his wing? Hopefully, their trail would lead to the elder and not on a wild goose chase.

Those thoughts were placed on hold, however, when Ukina started speaking to Rain about her health. By the time Emery turned to face his mate one more, Rain was already falling. With no time to catch her, Rain fell hard against the pavement, covering herself in blood. Still, Emery started forward to try and help her but paused due to the look on her face. She appeared to be not only in pain, but also scared and confused. Was she having a dream while awake or some sort of vision? Although Emery was panicked, he wasn't stupid enough to touch her until she came back from whatever world she was in. He didn't want to startle her anymore than she already was.

It took a few moments, but finally Rain pulled herself back to reality, although that didn't help her confused expression. Instantly, she tried to assure Ukina she was fine, but it didn't sound to convincing. Frowning, Emery offered out support as Rain lifted herself from the ground and made her way over. There was no way she was going to let him bring her back to the house. Emery knew how stubborn she could be, despite her health. Still, the dragon hesitated before he once again scooped her up into his arms. "If you need me to stop, you better let me know. I'm serious Rain. I can contact Kyvael to come assist." Not that he really wanted to, but his mate's health came before his personal feelings.

Without allowing her to argue, Emery took a mighty leap, allowing his wings to flex and glide them over to the building Ukina had pointed out. The smell of blood was still strong here, but Emery was able to make out a few scents. One was Isamu's which was accompanied by a puddle of blood. Three others were unknown to him and two had similar scents, which Emery guessed was the twins. Two of the unknown scents and Isamu's were faint, meaning they had left ahead of the other's, followed by the third unknown scent and the Twins'. The twins were the strongest meaning the lingered the longest and that would be the trail they would have to follow.

Lyvia's fight was short lived. Since she possessed a weapon of length and she was paired against someone with a knife, it was easy to evade and conquer. Her swift moments were too quick for human eye and she easily removed the knife and rendered the threat unconscious like his partner. She was careful not to dirty or tear the jacket that had been placed on her and now that she was finished, the pole was also discarded. Turning to face the alley again, her eyes met the sight of obvious battle. Bodies were piled on either other, some dead, some knocked out. Either way, it made her inner nymph mourn. Sighing, the fox stalked forward and managed to witness their new friend help Zeke out of his little bind. During her stroll to them, Lyvia reached a hand down to pull at her slowly hiking dress. Honestly she wasn't the least bit embarrassed about walking around naked, but such things were seen as inappropriate unless there was an emergency.

Thankfully, as she approached she managed to catch the unknown man's name: Phaestos Eliades. As she thought, he was old and not from this time. Even his scent was odd and smelled of a different world. Curious, Lyvia caught herself inspecting the man a bit closer only for her thoughts to shatter when he seemed to be talking to himself again. She couldn't help but quirk a brow at this, but she assumed answered would come when they were meant to. His moment of insanity didn't last long, though, before his eyes sought out Lyvia. Instinctively, her body tensed but soon settled at his compliments. Slowly, Lyvia found herself favoring his speech and her tail absently swayed in a slow wag back and forth. "Thank you for your compliments, but they are not needed. My name is Lyvia. It's a pleasure to meet you Phaestos." As she spoke, she moved a bit closer to Zeke to make sure he was alright. He didn't seem to be too beat up despite being knock over by such a large enemy.

Fiery eyes - laced with a bit of confusion - roved over the other woman now when she finally realized she wasn’t about to call any hunters on her. She was trying to find some sort of hint as to what she was. Her blond hair and blues eyes were normal enough, simple attire and fur lined hood, as well. Nothing was out of the ordinary as far as humans went. Perhaps the woman was just a human who was on the abnormals’ side? However unlikely that was given what she’d seen of this world since being reborn. Thoughts cranked over and over in her mind like a well-oiled machine before she leaned in a bit and glanced about; making sure no one was around to hear. “Are you . . . different . . . too?” she asks quietly. Cautiously. She was well aware that Shay had informed her that she wasn’t about to call on the hunters, but she couldn’t help exercising caution regardless. If not for the fact humans were all around them – doing this and that. “So. . . What are you?” she added once the other had replied, even quieter than her initial question. “You don’t have to tell me, though. I’m just curious.”

Shock painted her elegant features at her short anecdote of what had transpired, and why there was a half naked man running about. “It was an old man that was half naked?? How odd. . . Perhaps he was not all there mentally. Should we still go find him in case he hurts himself or others. . .” she mused, brow furrowing in slight confusion before he train abruptly derailed. A warm smile crossing her features, followed by a light laugh soon after. “It is alright. We all need to vent about things sometimes. I do not mind listening.” She says, gaze flickering to the plastic item being handed to her which she gratefully took. Debating if she had to put them on now since the other woman obviously knew she wasn’t normal; but as a man passed by and hesitated a second to long she decided to adorn them once again. Having glanced down and away when he’d passed by before quickly slipping the sunglasses into place. She wrinkled her nose in discomfort having her vision darkened, but her eyes were too conspicuous. “Thank you.” She finally voices her gratitude.

At the question regarding her name, she paused as if considering her answer, “My name is Layali. . . And what is your name?” she replies, once more furrowing her brow as she noticed how Shay looked back – as if she were being stalked. Waiting for something or someone to come up on her suddenly or even drop from the vast skies above. “What is it?” she murmured with concern, starting to reach out to lightly place a hand on the other woman’s arm before deciding against it. “Are you in trouble?” Truth be told what abnormal wasn’t in trouble nowadays? Hell, a phoenix had to hide themselves from the populace now despite being one of the more peaceful creatures.

User Image Steeping forward through the spot where the feisty hunter had just been on her knees he waited for the next move. This wasn’t the end. Falling from eighty storeys wouldn’t be enough to kill this one, not with that partner of hers. Reaching up he was just in time knock back the stun grenade with a whip like shadow sending it above the dust cloud where it collided with magic round she shot. The cylinder burst into brilliant flash that was all but deaden to him by the dust. But now was no a time to relax as already another grenade was on its way. He really hated those things. Man made suns how annoying. He raised his hand again but the same trick wouldn’t work twice, as already the dust was being blown away by a might gust of wind that was in no way natural. He was right that magic user needed to be taken care of first. He had been keeping to the skies far away from sin’s reach and with good reason. But he made one mistake h got close to something sin touched. The moment he sent her through the hidden path he also placed a shadow on her body. It was small, small enough to hide undetected on her.

The flash bang detonated a few inches above the road and once again the street was bathed in blinding light. For a mag he was sure fond of his grenades, that’s why sin hoped he would appreciate the little gift he had sent him. As the magic user waited above the streets a literal death from above. The street below was veiled in light, making it impossible to see sin. He would need to wait for the light to fade. But before it could something out of the corner of his eye drew his gaze forward. For not three inches in front of his face was a mk II fragmentation grenade. Known as the pineapple it's obsolete model used during world war 2 and Vietnam it was still popular among some in the civilian world for it’s reliability, pop culture image, and large surplus. Among them the hunter that had meet his demise at sins hand behind that back ally. The shadow sin placed on Sipora had transferred to him the moment he caught her. And while not enough to do anything on it’s own it was enough to act as portal medium for a live grenade with the pin pulled.

Just as sipora was rounding the final corner an explosion came from the sky above her. The very next second it was followed by the unmistakable sound of automatic machine gun fire, and the whizzing of bullets as they flew inches from her head to embed themselves in the brickwork behind her. The shots were coming from across the street where just in front of an overturned café table where sin now stood. Just as the flash bang was going off sin dove behind the table shielding himself from most of the blast. Some of his few remaining vashta nerada had still been scattered, but what was worse was the partial deafness the explosion had left him with. His ears where ringing like a telephone and the sound of 600 hundred rounds a minute of gun fire wasn’t helping. For in his hands he held an Israeli made uzi submachine gun on full auto. Another gift from the back ally hunter. The massive rate of fire had her pinned down but it came at the cost of accuracy. That and his inexperienced with firearms made for a hail of scattered bullets. But anyone could be a lucky a shot that took her down if she poked her head out now.

Zeke
The Underground Merchant

Zeke grumbled something about how annoying big and bulky people were before the weight was removed from him. Damn, he had wanted to knock the sense out of the man. Not that he had sense, coming at a werewolf and if he had wanted to stroll around the city naked he would have shifted. As it were, he did not lack a sense of decency. At least when it came to himself anyways. With another grumble he stood, glancing towards Lyvia, “Gee, a good fighter, tiny, and barely dressed... Suppose I got myself a handful yes?” he said jokingly before looking at Phaestos.

“Thank-you... Mind if I ask why exactly you were surrounded by these um...” he glanced around at the pile of bodies in the alley. What did eh call them? It wasn’t as if he had stopped to ask, ‘hey, what’s your name and what group to you belong to... If any?’ “Jokers?” he finished, settling for the simple word. After all, that’s what they were, clearly having gone looking for trouble and finding it in this man who was currently mumbling to himself before asking Lyvia for her name.

He glanced at the fox girl once more, making note of her slowly wagging tail and tried not to chuckle, though it could be seen in his eyes. “Well since we’re introducing ourselves, might as well toss my name out there too, eh? I’m Ezekiel, but just call me Zeke, if you don’t mind.” He paused to think for a moment. His actual name sounded foreign on his tongue now. He had gone by the shortened version of it since... Well since he had lost his eye. That or the merchant. No one ever used the name he had been given at birth anymore and that suited him just fine. “Also... What the heck do you mean slumber?...” His eyebrow rose; this man was certainly different. He couldn’t place his finger on it, but he was.

Phaestos took in the pair before him. An odd set, to be sure. He heard each give their names, and Ezekiel’s series of questions following the introduction. He scoffed when the man mentioned the gangs.

I do not claim any “gang,” Ezekiel. As I said, I am Phaestos Eliades, champion of Sparta to King Alexander, defender of Athena’s temple, Parthenon, of her new form Minerva when the Gauls struck at the Pantheon, and since then, names such as the Last Macedonian, the Wandering Guardian, and The Phoenix have been placed upon me. I watched your God send his son to the cross, and I stood within the walls of Jerusalem as two sides of the same faith waged bloody war for the site of his death. No “gang” has claim to my personage. For only one has that right. Athena Pallas, Goddess of Wisdom, the avatar of righteous war. Does that give satisfaction in the answering?

As he finished, blinding pain filled his head, and he dropped to a knee. He felt as if liquid fire was injected into his skull, like a it was being pulled apart from every corner. As soon as it came, it was gone again, and he stayed down, shaking his head to clear his vision.

Apologies my love… Your mind is not fashioned to contain a God. The headaches are a price to be paid, until human form can be found for me to possess.

Standing up shakily, Phaestos took a deep breath, “Athena, anything for you.I would not have entered the mortal realm without realization of consequence. You share my heart, and the mind is but a small step from that base.
