There was once a powerful goddess who fell in love with a Tyracan war lord, and this love, as seemingly insignificant as it was,
changed the world forever.
Together, they had a dream: to unite the nations and create a sense of equality for all, human and demon, rich and poor, black and white. And by working together and combining their powers, they managed unite all of the great nations under one flag - their flag. They had finally achieved their dream...or so it appeared.
A new, more disturbing issue began to rear it's ugly head. The goddess started to notice that people in power, even her once righteous husband, were easily corrupted. She watched as her husband, along with the nobles who formed the High Court around him, took bribes, led soldiers needlessly into battle, and ignored the cries of the people she had fought so hard for.
Thus, the goddess saw the danger of allowing men to stay in power indefinitely, so she took it upon herself to find a solution. What she discovered was what she called "time," and with it she created a cycle, one in which a soul would "live" and "die."
Death was painful, however, as the goddess soon found; battles left many soulless bodies, deadly diseases spread like wildfire, and many of those she cared about, including her son and former lover, quickly fell to its clutches. She, too, fell ill as a mortal woman, and soon died.
Devastated by the death of his beloved wife, the emperor attempted to bring her back to life using powerful magic developed by the Nalani people. In order to assure that she would remain by his side forever, he fused her soul with that of a phoenix. However, the result was not the reawakening of the Goddess of Rebirth, but rather the creation of a new being, later called an "angel."
Whether he realized it or not, the birth of this angel sparked a tragic series of events filled with much bloodshed, death, and betrayal. The mighty emperor, the man who had conquered the three main nations and then some, fell at the hands of his own brother, who took the throne as his own and exiled the young princess. Shortly after, the jealous emperor sentenced the angels of the other two main houses, the princess' lover and friend, to death for the high crime of treason.
Overcome with grief at her lover's death, the former princess tried to turn back the "time" that her predecessor had created all those years before, and froze the world as it was before the terrible execution. As a result, a separate dimension, or realm, was created, one in which "time" no longer existed, and neither did "life" or "death." It was a world where she and her two companions could be together forever...
. . .
Enter the bleak, gray world of the "Realm Between," home to the angels and gods of the old world, where time remains at a stand-still. A group of restless angels, the heirs of the three Great Houses, travels the world in search of a future and a better tomorrow.
Their goal: the land of sun.
Enter the "Realm of the Living," better known as the human world, where time passes all too quickly, and each day is marked by the rising and setting of the life-giving sun. A group of friends, filled with half-remembered memories of lives they never knew, search for their own purpose and reason for being.
When these two worlds collide, understanding will be found at last...but at what cost?
Angel: In this story, an angel is defined as any servant or messenger of the High Court or Great Council. Each angel belongs to the House of the one who created them.
Dark Abyss: A large void that engulfs lost spirits and destroys them to the point that they cannot be reborn.
Great Council: This is a council of wise and powerful spirits who are considered to be "gods". They rule over all three Realms, but they mostly reside in the Realm Between.
High Court: This refers to the small society of nobles built around the Emperor, specifically his ruling council.
House: A House is essentially a clan and at least includes a leader (usually a member of the High Court or Great Council), several apprentices, and one or two angels who work closely with the leader and may one day become the heir of the clan. Each House has a unique symbol that members are required to wear at all times, and in the case of angels, it is usually tattooed onto their bodies to show ownership.
There are four main houses, named for their leaders: Osirus, Menorrhi, Aukinora, and Nefferon. While these are the largest and most powerful houses, there are many smaller ones scattered around the empire.
Osirian Empire: The first empire established by Osirus the Great that united the nations of the world and created both the High Court and the Great Council.
Neffronian Empire: The new empire created when Nefferon the Cruel came to power, which essentially just expands upon the original empire established by Osirus. This is the empire currently in place in the Realm Between.
Realm of the Living: The Realm, or world, in which all living spirits reside.
Realm of the Dead: The Realm, or world, in which all once-living spirits who have "passed on" reside.
Realm Between: The Realm, or world, in which those spirits who are neither living nor dead reside. This realm is mostly inhabited by gods, angels, demons, and other inhuman beings.

Have a question that isn't listed here? Please ask!
If James and Anomen are twins, why do they have different hair colors?
Anomen was born naturally blond like James, but his shadow powers tend to make his hair turn black. If exposed to a large amount of light for a long period of time, however, his hair will start to turn blond again, starting from the tips. Thus, he prefers to stay indoors during daylight hours.
Does Anomen have any sort of love interest?
Since he's so flirtatious, his romantic relationships never last long, but his main "love interest" is Aukinora. However, while they're labeled as "lovers", it's highly unlikely that either of them would stay faithful, so it would be totally okay to draw him with a random girl (or your own character ~.^ ).
What kind of backgrounds might be suitable for each character?
Seiko, James, Anomen, and Caine all live in our modern age, so a modernistic city background would be probable. :3 They do live in Los Angeles, after all. Besides that, Seiko might be found in a laboratory or a cluttered office with technical parts scattered all over the room; James would most likely be found somewhere outside or at least close to a window; Anomen might be found in a noisy pub or boxing ring; Caine would be found either at school, home studying, or outside, perhaps at the graveyard.
Zuleika and the others live in the Realm Between, which is more of a medieval kind of setting. Large cities haven't developed yet, so there are only small villages. Since time doesn't really pass, the sky will be kind of an ash gray color all of the time due to there being no difference between night and day. Of course, you could also draw them in or around their respective castles, in a village somewhere, or just wandering outside somewhere.
If in doubt, refer to their "favorite places."
