all i can ask is "WTF is that crap about?" because i seriously dont understand it and have never heard about this, probably because im not in/from the US...

It's a bill the US government wants to pass that in a nutshell censors the internet. The purpose is to "stop piracy" but as the video explain it won't stop piracy and it will cause more problems. Thing is it will effect more than just the US, it will effect the rest of the worlds internet. A lot of companies run through the US and are used world wide, and they will be forced to censor their users which means even those outside the US; as a basic example of effect.

So you may not be from the US, I am not either (I'm from Canada), but you should sign what petitions you can and spread the word. More people need to get involved and care to stop this bill from being passed. Honestly, I sound like a rabid supported to take this down, but it is really important this is the internet we're talking about.

Basically, the government is giving the media the power to control what is posted online. As well as giving them ability to take legal action against users.

For example if a US resident posts a video of them singing a cover to a copyright song, they can be sued or sent to jail for up to 5 years.

The media will be able to shut down sites for copyright material being posted. They will be able to force companies to censor their search parameters. Forcing them to censor the web. Control what can and can not be searched on say google, yahoo, bing all those search engines would have to change what you the user can search and have access to. They can stop new sites from being created, shut down existing sites such as youtube, tumblr, soundcloud, grooveshark, facebook and twitter. Even Gaia will be force to censor it's users, limit what we can and can not post, what content can and can not be seen.

It is meant to stop piracy, but it will likely effect more than just that. Like the video says the US may not abuse this power to the extreme extents but other governments that follow in their footsteps may not be as trustworthy. As the video states even online security will be effected.

Do you know how China censors the web? It is similar to that.

I mean you should care even if you're not a US resident because it effects you too. It will change your internet too, and could lead the way to your government implementing the same kind of censorship.

People need to start caring, US residents and non alike, this is a HUGE deal.
