"Sadye," Lias said smoothly, the word rolling off his tongue. He took the seat beside her in a single smooth movement, adjusting the collar of his fine shirt. "I mean...someone with so much potential. There's such magic in you that it overwhelms me, and it's very...alluring." He was sincere, but there was he felt never a harm in flattery to win someone over to his side, providing he meant it.

Jeni leant forwards and coughed to clear her throat.

"Sadye, this is my...friend, Lias," she introduced. "Lias, Sadye is someone I thought you may want to meet. I explained what a find businessman you are and as it happens she is looking for some purpose to being here."

User Image Taken aback by the offer, Variable stared cautiously at the offered 'contract'. Go home? Stay? Here, she was useless, there were no wars to fight, but it gave her a chance to live a somewhat normal life. Back home, she had her reputation, and she knew her skills could be used. On top of that, it sounded like this made it a bit harder to die. Or perhaps easier? And what would Seig and Zack want her to do?

"Whiskey, please. Cheap stuff, not too strong." When it was poured, the vigilante raised it in a mock-toast. "Here's to a new life, eh?" Once it was downed, the contract was signed. No stranger to pain, Variable only grimaced at the strange sensation, able to tell somewhat what items tied to her aspects.

Her body was tied to the dogtags hanging around her neck. Fitting, she supposed - her body was military issue, in a way, so to have her military identification represent it, well... The dogtags were not something she ever removed from her person anyways. Force of habit, really, considering if a fellow soldier took them from her, they could claim her rank. Which would get them killed, should she know about it. That's why they were best taken from a dead man.

A silver cigarette lighter sitting in her pocket felt more important than it should have. Though she had taken it from a corpse and it bore no particular significance to her, her mind had been tied to it. Variable would admit she thought better when smoking, or staring into a campfire, or something of that nature. Fire and smoke were somewhat relaxing and exciting at the same time for her mind. Some would even argue there was a parallel between the element and the soldier - depending on how used, her mind was dangerous and destructive or useful and constructive, but generally she was always at risk of being chaotic and unpredictable. All it took was a click of the lighter...

The last was a bit more difficult to tell. In a pouch on her hip sat a simple deck of cards, and, curious, she pulled them out to inspect what had happened to them. Drawing from the top, Variable stared down at the ace of spades in her hand, only to be reminded of herself, of her entire past. The next was the king from the same suit, and all she saw was the russet-haired Rhyne, rifle at the ready and giving her the familiar scowl he did when she annoyed him. But it wasn't only that image, which was by far the most common one that came to mind when she thought of him. Every memory she had of him, from back when they were children playing chess, up to the look on his face when he realized her plan before her brother shot and killed her... Another card was the ever gentle Dante, who kept his friend from shooting her constantly, and yet another was her hopeless romantic brother Seig... Dizzy with the rush of memories and the emotions they brought, the deck was carefully put away.

Hopefully, her brothers would forgive her for not returning. Their world was better off without her there, and this contract could grant her some peace here. She could stop being the monster.

By the way if anyone wants to play with Laveris, she is free for a while. wink

Too bad Riv is all caught up trying to kill himself.

Huhuhu XD I was more thinking of anyone who hasn't had a chance yet. wink

Haha, so was I, but how can a poor mortal man like myself resist the wiles of a woman like Laveris?

I do want to be able to meet Laveris soon, but I'm waiting on Ja'tel's post, and I'm not sure where we're going with our subplot at the moment.

Teagan and Ja'tel are still looking for Lamia, this time they're investigating the Axel of Commerce right as it becomes dark. I wonder i I should quote Luna in my next post so she brings Lamia into it when she can? o:

What would be your preference- to have Laveris meet a single new person, or to run into a crowd of 2 or more?

I'd prefer one because it's easier for me to keep up, but two is cool. XD Personally though if it was Teagan I'd like them to have a one on one conversation...:3

Sadye was looking slightly trapped, even though she was trying to put her best face forward. After all, Jeni had been nice enough, she should give her friend a little benefit of doubt right? "I...err...thanks, cutter..Lias?" She almost opened her mouth to say 'It's really not what you think though. I'm just a simple tanar'ling', but the prospect of a business transaction closed her mouth. Well she did need some money, could she turn this to her favor?

If she relaxed it was only a hair, but there was a spark of interest as she asked, "So...uh... what kinda business are we talkin', cutter?"

Will this round not have runners-up then?

If anyone drops out on the first reply, yes smile It doesnt require knowing ahead of time though, so it will be ok.

In the previous rounds you have announced runners-up in order.
You didn't this time so... Part of me wants to know and part of me doesn't. blaugh
Like are the 5 runners-up not listed because each is back-up for a different faction?
Or did you just forget or...?

So here's my thoughts: Not only did I not qualify for the finals,
but in so doing I'm now excluded from participating in the final round.
In the previous rounds info was available for those who didn't make it.
We were still able to play along even though we weren't in the running.
I can theorize why the factions info is PMed vs posted but at the same time...
It's a little frustrating. biggrin

Hope you don't mind my feedback. ^^;

I don't think it will be possible to participate in this round if you're not a finalist, unfortunatly! The format will I think be a little different. :3

Sounds good, I will make sure they meet one on one then. I'm not a fan of group meetings myself, haha.

I'm not sure when Teagan will be free but hopefully I can conjure something up soon. ninja

Just quote me when she is! I'm working on her last post now, to take her out of Blakely's place and out back into Serendipity...:3

Inwardly Ja'tel sighed. This girl was so difficult. Her attempt at friendliness made him smile, 'Not bad...' And then the man she had engaged mentioned them being a couple and his heart dropped. 'Oh of course. The one thing I wish he hadn't said...' But Teagan took it well and continued on with flying colors. At his question of Lamia's description, Ja'tel recalled her and gestured as he spoke, "About so tall, light hair, very fair of skin..." He thought a little more, "Some tattoos on face, very kind when spoken to...Was last around here maybe a few days ago."
He looked to Teagan. "Anything important I missed?"

Devaena's words sent a chill down Lurp!Riv's spine. “Little ruse?” She knew? This was bad, very bad. Still, this just meant Lurp would have to fight her again, and this time finish the job. Could that ball spell hit a moving target. In the split second it takes Lurp to make battle plans it occurs to him. If she knew what he was, she wouldn't be asking about the talismans. And even if she did somehow connect the two, she would have attacked, not be dragging him away someplace. Lurp had proved himself a dangerous enough foe that someone like Devaena would be risking herself by not trying to kill him right away. It doesn't convince Lurp 100% but he decides to stick it out as Rivek. There's still time in the game to change things up later if needed.

“Not human?” Lurp!Riv says kicking in Devaena's grasp as they fly over buildings. “Look who's talking. Isn't that a bit of the pot and the kettle?” Lurp has to remind himself not to look back to see what the real Rivek is doing as they fly away. Is he following? Can he? Does he want him to?

"All right all right, you're scary, I get it.” He changes his attention back to the demon woman holding him. “I'll tell you about the talismans, but I don't know what you want them for. They're only valuable to me and my employer!”
