Ja'tel slept lightly but his mind wandered into a dream. He was surrounded by the sands of Anorah, white and glistening with ghostly light, the sky was dim and overhung with thunderclouds. He was overcome with the need to rush onwards as if he were late to meet someone he cared for, but he could not trudge the sands with his usual skill and speed. He was filled with panic at the need to move faster, but could not. He heard above him thunder and his thoughts turned to his comrade Seti, who could will the elements. He felt as if he were yelling to Ja'tel to hurry, to flee. And yet the sands became thicker and the dunes steeper.

Ahead of him he spotted over the end of a dune a figure with a red, transparent cloth trailing from it, dancing in the breeze. As he came closer he recognized the robes and long grey hair of the woman who had raised him from a young teen. A woman of the mystic arts and an apothecary, she stood motionless and gazed at Ja'tel in a way that mocked reality. With a single look she could make him feel shame, urge him to try harder, and grieve at his choices. "Jenaim!" He called out. "Sha'la tem meiet tal'ei!" She did not respond, only shook her head. And then she looked suddenly very sad. "Diliem maket...." He began to sink into the sands "Deiliem maket, Ja'tel..." Her voice transformed as he fell through the sands of his home and he awoke with a start, instantly going to his feet and gripping the dagger.

Quickly he realized where he was and gathered himself. He looked at Teagan, barely registering reality for a moment as the feeling of the dream lingered. He retook his seat and sheathed the dagger. "Ah. Hello." He breathed, rubbing his eyes, kohl staying intact. He shook the dream away.

Teagan gasped as he'd woken up, arming himself with his dagger. She wasn't sure of what he'd do in his dreams, but she didn't want to take the chance that his aim was just as accurate as when he was awake. She shifted so that she no longer sat directly in front of him, just in case he went to stab the air in front. But there was no need for the precaution, for in a moment he woke and shook off his slumber.

"Afternoon..." she replied, her heart still racing. "So you dream disturbing things as well then." she added quietly. She turned and rose from her bed, stretching her limbs. It suddenly occurred to her that she had kept a man in her bedroom for an entire night, and she blushed slightly at the thought.

"I get one free meal a day here, if you'd like to stay for 'breakfast.'" She said suddenly. She walked over to him and stood nervously, entwining her fingers. Her face turned redder as she recalled the events from last night.

Ja'tel looked at the window to see if he could gauge the time, but he could not. He felt like he'd only been asleep for a moment. He nodded at Teagan "Quite often." He said sadly, "Many times I would receive visions." He watched her stretch, feeling slightly fiendish, then stood and did the same. Sleeping in a chair was not comfortable, but it was better than the floor.

"Breakfast?" He chuckled, realizing that he was quite thirsty. "Alright. We can discuss where to go as we eat." He motioned for her to lead the way, noticing that she was blushing, no doubt her reaction to last night as a sober woman. 'I wonder if I should mention I have key to her room...' He thought mischievously, but decided it was best to keep that to himself.

"Right, I'll go order something for us!" She said with a nervous excitement, and dashed out the door. She arrived a few minutes later, with the waiter who carried their food in large silver platters. "Over here please..." she motioned for him to place the food on a small table by the window. She avoided eye contact with Ja'tel as she scurried about, setting the plates and grabbing the chair from her desk so they could both sit.

"Eggs, bacon, toast, and juice, madam.."
the waiter mentioned, noticing Teagan's awkward state. "Enjoy." He left the room quickly, muttering something under his breath.

She took a seat and began eating without looking once at Ja'tel. "Come sit." she said, a bit more coldly than she meant.

Teagan dashed about paying little mind to Ja'tel who watched her in curiosity. 'Such an odd woman. Reminds me of me.' He sat when she bade him to and took up the juice for a drink. He found it familiar to his surprise and drank nearly half the glass in one gulp. He set down the glass and picked up the toast as his other hand took the bacon and casually put it onto Teagan's plate. He attacked the egg with the toast as he said "I actually recognize this food. Prepared different, but the same!" He looked over to her as he chewed his toast happily.

'I really do hate it when you avoid looking at me
.' He said to her in his mind.

She couldn't help but grin at his comment, and she buttered her toast. She'd already devoured her eggs.

Anything familiar in this city is a miracle in itself. He must be avoiding the subject to save me the embarrassment. Too late Ja'tel, I'm already replaying everything over and over. I'm an idiot.

She drank half of her juice before answering him. Her voice cracked as she did, and she winced as if it had caused her pain. "Yes, the food here is very good. I-" As she looked up at him finally, she saw a bright smile on his face. He'd been watching her. She stopped mid sentence, her hand still clutching her glass inches above the table. Now her face was as red as it'd ever been.

Why are you looking at me why are you looking at me....

Teagan quickly averted her eyes and stuffed her face with bacon. She nearly chocked on it, trying to swallow the larger pieces in haste.

Ja'tel felt a glimmer of hope when she grinned, but it quickly turned to confusion again as she avoided his eyes more and turned bright red. "Suddenly you are shy?" He asked her finishing, his toast. "You were not shy last night." He raised an eyebrow and reached for the remainder of his juice. He had waited for her to swallow her food before saying anything. He grinned like a devil.

God, he DOES remember. ********, of course he remembers! I was the only one drunk. Idiot idiot idiot!!!

"I realize that..now.." she struggled to speak, still avoiding eye contact. "Why do you look so pleased. Don't tell me you actually enjoyed it. My behavior was hideous. I must...reek...of booze.." And shame.

She took her last piece of toast and nibbled on it slowly, with an odd look of concentration on her face.

You're not making this easy Ja'tel. Stop smiling at me, you b*****d.

Saphirus let out an instinctive sigh of relief as the beast turned away, but quickly realized he had to do something to help Pahkakino. "Don't panic! Fly upward!" Saphirus shouted as drew his sword and charged at the back of the beast. What was it? A pig? A bear? No of course not, something totally different.

Saphirus plunged his sword into the raging animal's flank. The attack seemed to enrage it further. Saphirus brought his shield up to block a wild swing of the animal's great clawed paw and was knocked down on his back. Saphirus lost his concentration on the coatle-wings he had summoned and they dissipated into a swirl of faint light and were gone. The wild beast now seemed in a state of complete rage, being attacked from both sides and injured. This was now a life or death struggle for it - and for Saphirus and Pahkakino too it seemed.

((I'm glad you decided to have fun with this instead of a quick kill. Now Pahkakino can return the favor of being saved))

Once the creature had turned away from him, Pahkakino closed his wings and dropped to the beast's spiny back. Shrinking the claws of one hand back to a shorter length, he dug them into the course hair, along with his toe-claws.

Lifting his free hand, Pahkakino snarled and slammed the long, blood-red claws into the stiff flesh. "Run!" he cried as the beast reared back in pain. The boar-ish creature began to buck and shake, trying to knock Pahkakino loose. His wings were extended, trying to maintain his balance as the beast ran and kicked.

Concentrating on staying on the beast's back, knowing that if he were thrown to the ground those claws would tear his flesh to ribbons, he dug his toes in for better purchase. His tail spinning behind him, the red demon concentrated on his left hand's claws, growing them even longer, hoping to, by some miracle, send the piercing claws through the vitals of the beast.

Sparing a moment to look up, Pahkakino gasped and drew his wings in close. A moment later, the boar crashed side-long into a rocky spur. Pahkakino felt the bones of his right wing snap, and the membrane tear.

Ja'tel kept his saucy grin. "Enjoy? Me?" He said in mock innocence "Ahh...it must be because I am terrible man. I find beauty where there is...hideousness?" He teased her.

He leaned forward and rested his elbow upon the table, pushing away his plate. He placed his head upon his palm and gazed at Teagan, taking pleasure as it made her insides squirm. "I am guessing...booze means alcohol? In which case, yes you do." He chuckled, motioning with his free hand as he spoke, "But I am no stranger to this scent. It is, how you say...intoxicating?"

"Oh," Jeni said airly but inside she was disapointed; still, who knew with Lias? He was a canny one but indept at hiding his feelings; she would see when he arrived what he thought of Sadye. Then again, for her, most people where indept at hiding their feelings to a level that she could not recognise. Reading the slightest changes and twitches in body language had always seemed a very easy thing for her.

A part of Jeni pained to realise what she was about to do - a very small part - for she found herself rather enamoured to Sadye. The woman was nice enough really. But the greater goal is the only important thing here Jeni...don't forget that...

At the doorway Lias survayed the room with mild disinterest, his eyes searching to pick out the redheaded freckled woman. Why she insisted on these places he would never know but he supposed the location of their meetings truely didn't matter so much; each place was as much the same as any other.

He spotted her after a moment, over the head of a man tossing a ball between his hands and laughing riotously with a group of other men and women all wearing the same uniform, who he ignored altogether and walked swiftly towards the table. She was sitting with another woman; he felt the wave of magic eminating from her hit him in the face like the slap of a fine silk glove, so much that he paused for just a moment in his walk with the shock of it. This woman... He had to know more about her.

Reaching the table at last he ignored Jeni entirly and gave his best dashing smile at Sadye.

"Well....who are you?" he asked. "I wouldn't have thought to find....someone like you...sitting so casually in a place like this."

Blakely's mind was awhirl, all coherent thought scattered and wild - he didn't know whether or not to be comforted or alarmed by the fact that Laveris was letting him lead her along, but he released her and managed to avoid a scene. There wasn't a single sensible thought in his head at that moment and having a meeting with his business partner was probably not a good idea. And so instead of heading up the carpeted stairs to the dark lounge he turned sharply and made for the hot kitchens.

"Garland," Blakely said as soon as he saw the man with the ridiculous hat gingerly testing a savory smelling sauce. The hat wobbled slightly as Garland looked up.

"Mister Blakely, this is unexpected. Do you need something which I can provide?"

"I need you to see this arrives with Saserici's dinner," Blakely said quietly as he began scrawling a note which he finished with haste, folded and set in front of Garland. "I'm also going to want dinner delivered to my place on the Sundering. Make that two, actually... and ah, put Saserici's meal on my tab." Blakely's eyes narrowed as he caught sight of the man's slight frown, which vanished almost as soon as it had appeared. Good.

With that he looked back at Laveris and then turned to head outside into the strange hazy orange light which passed for day in this place.

"Well, if you wanted to shock the hell out of me, congratulations, you succeeded. I should warn you, if this is some kind of joke things will likely get rowdy, Laveris." He had almost called her Empress and that he had stopped himself and respected her wishes bothered him more than he cared to contemplate.

Fully intending to march staight for his rooms in Shadowlook - which was a tower on the Axle's fringes that the more affluent visitors to Cerxes took up residence in, Blakely quickened the pace. He didn't remember... she didn't remember... but she did remember at least some of it. And didn't he? What the hell had happened on Torcotua? He wanted to say he didn't remember a damn thing... but something about an armband kept flashing in his mind. This was crazy.

They couldn't talk about it... that was how this was going to go down. They wouldn't talk about it again. He would tell her his business - why he should do that wasn't clear to him, but it was the plan - and talk to her about how much danger she really was in and what they were going to do about it. If his Lady knew she was here....
