This is a warning and awareness thread, since a good number of you never go anywhere else around Gaia to see what's going on.
Hackers have been getting into accounts using a link to a password stealing website.
Lately, to try to get us in here, the link has been spread through PMs, disguised as a request for an AvA vote.
When you click the link, you're brought to Gaia's "homepage", as if you were signed out.
If you see this happen, don't try to sign back in. It's fake.
Typing your username and password into the log-in is what gives them your info.

To prevent getting even that far, just take these precautionary steps:
• DO NOT CLICK ANY LINK without hovering over it first to check its origin.
• Report the PM or post you see containing the link if you find "ripway.com" anywhere in the link.
• Try to warn your other friends once you receive the link, just in case they might be fooled.

If you click a link that takes you to a login page - Do Not Sign in. Even if that link has come from a friend, they may have been pished already

Added this to the Known Issues section.

deazy - thanks for the update in here <3. hopefully more ppl will see it 3nodding

I asked this in the other thread, but i was curious to know if you knew the details of the pm your friend received. I had hoped the scam had died out, because after 3 ppl getting hit in 2 days, i heard no new red alerts all day yesterday. So i was just curious to know if this is the same scammer. -nods -

I'm not sure if it went to the same place but it wasn't disguised as an AvA voting link, I know that much.

Similar MO though, link looked like it went to a Gaia page, it went to a Gaia login page and it looked like the other person had also been pished.

The scammer that scammed the past 3 ppl in the AT and were received by friends of the hacked stated this in every pm:

Quote:
Hi...
I was hoping you would check my main avatar at the arena, and rate it? I'm running this week.
Here is the link (link taken out)
If you don't want to, it's fine, I'll totally understand.
Thanks though n_n

It's always been the same wording, and same link. And if successfully hacked, the hacker hops onto that account and pms ppl on their friendlist with the same message :/.

It's why i think this issue is a little more extreme than any other scam, because its catching us all offguard. Knowledge wise about scams and keyloggers, and also contact through someone we trust.
