Journal of Ryan Grand
I will be placing journal entries of my D&D character Ryuukesu Kensei here.
Foreshadowing
“The more things change, the more they stay the same.” A famous singer once said that. You know what? That guy knew what he was talking about. Living for a couple of millennia makes things seem like nothing’s changed. Religion, culture, technology may change but in retrospect, nature never changes. Not in the trees and birds kinda way but the instincts, virtues and personalities that people have. I have seen centuries go by, seeing the same pattern, oppression from the evil, rising of the good, good vs evil, good wins, harmony prevails, peace restored. Guess what, couple of decades later, the cycle continues, with bigger weapons, a new bad guy, good guy comes back with new friends and restores balance. Think of my life as a roller coaster; dips, ducks, turns, loop-de-loops, crying for mommy to lemme off, get off, and get right back on in a couple of weeks. After a month or so, you get sick of it, but I can’t just quit, after all, my life is like a non-stop thrill ride. I am immortal, stuck like a teenager for years until somebody chooses to pull the plug, unfortunately that someone ain’t me. I do happen to have some stories to tell you when I was in my prime, I shall save that for later. However, my story will have three aspects that any story needs, a beginning, middle and end. I will, however, start at the beginning of end. I am Ryuuketsu Kensei, AKA, Ryan Grand. As far as my profile goes, I am 18, grew up in a forest outside Cornwall, England, learned everything about forests, nature and everything in it there, home schooled, got a scar from parental abuse, and the heater in my house blew up, killing my Mom and Dad but leaving me alive. I now live in New York City, a master chef in my own restraunt, Kensei. My best friend, Long Sun, claims to be the owner, but, secretly, the real owner is me. After I hang up my apron, close up shop and head home, I grab my guns, a couple of swords and head out on the streets, catching criminals and bringing a heaping helping of vigilante justice with Long. Sounds fantastic, No? A mere 18-year-old kid, owner of a restraunt, immortal and a bounty hunter? I ain’t pulling your leg. Let’s let the tale begin, shall we?

I just arrived in NYC, after traveling from Europe and exploring Asia, Africa and Australia, I decided to check out the Americas a couple of centuries ago—and it proved to be a good place to forge relationships—but mostly I wanted to check out the new so-called city of lights. That was about twenty years ago, but I heard that the New York Natural History museum has an exhibit on archaic weapons. I was excited to hear that my old swords made it into the exhibit, not for nostalgia, but the fact that I needed them again. The curator—48 at the time, good kid—let me take the swords and put replicas on display. Why take what was originally the state of New York’s? I needed them, the old evil is arising again, and I need to assemble the new team.
