David Plentus, webmaster of Bob Dylan Covers site, dead at 55 - National Bob Dylan
David Plentus, webmaster of the Dylan Covers site, has apparently died in a fire, according to Ojornal. Plentus lived in East Taunton, Massachusetts, with his older brother, John, who was away on vacation at the time.

Alan Fraser, webmaster of the Dylan rarities site, Searching For A Gem, sent me a link to the article, and confirmed that it was the same David Plentus that ran the DylanCover website. Fraser wrote, "I found his site a valuable resource and he was a frequent contributor to my site. He'll be greatly missed and I hope the Dylan Covers site can be continued."

Fraser's sentiment was echoed on his website:

31 Jan 2010: I'm very sad to have heard from Bill Hester and Arie de Reus of the death of David Plentus, who died in a fire at his home in East Taunton, MA, on 19 Jan 2011. Dave was the webmaster of the Dylan Covers site, which has proved a valuable resource for "Searching For A Gem".

Among the comments on the DylanCovers.com Facebook page:

Friday: has anybody heard from Dave in the last two weeks?

No. I have been wondering that myself! I hope he is ok and just taking a well deserved vacation. I have never met him in person but consider him a friend and kindred spirit.

Me too, he's one of the kindest persons I know. What worries me is that he doesn't answer since more than a week. He's normally very quick in answering, and normally he would have left a "I'll imnewbieninja be back soon" message ... I hope he's not seriously in trouble.

Today: It is with great sadness that I post this information - that David Plentus passed away two weeks ago - a tragic victim in a house fire at his home in Massachusetts. May Dave rest in peace.

. . . a huge loss to the Dylan community, our thoughts and love to his family. I will miss this guy immensely. His contribution to the Dylan community was immense, and he was one of the most friendly and responsible people I have known. My thoughts and love to him and his brother.

i'm sorry to read this...

RIP David. I just read on a link from Expecting Rain that David Plentus, the creator of DylanCover died in a fire on January 19th . . .DylanCover and all the associated links and blog has been a great source for over 10 years. He will be missed.

The last Facebook post by Plentus was on January 13.

I recently started incorporating links to Plentus' extensively researched and documented website into my Bob Dylan Examiner articles. On October 10, I contacted Plentus to inform him that a new Dave Stewart song co-written by Bob Dylan was being released. I also mentioned that I linked to the DylanCover website in a Solomon Burke article. The next day, Plentus replied that he had seen the link to the Stewart article in Expecting Rain, and had subscribed to my Examiner feed.

The fruits of Plentus' labor can been seen at DylanCover.com, which contains over 30,000 Dylan covers.

Plentus was obviously a diligent and hardworking Bob Dylan fan, and had many friends and admirers.

He will be missed.
