Web Page Design Guidelines For The Novice Website Designer
You can tell if a site is unsuccessful or successful by its design. By using web design practices that are appealing and effective, you will make sure visitors will think of your site as one that is reputable, visually pleasing, and simple to use. However, if you have a poorly designed website, they will exit the site without giving it a second thought. If you want to give your website the benefit of strong design practices, check out the following tips.

Avoid creating user interface (UI) controls that mislead your visitors. These controls include elements, widgets and more that create an interactive experience, such as a link, drop-down list or button. You do not want to seo copywriting make visitors think that clicking on an underlined word or phrase for example, will lead to a new page if it is not actually linked to something else. When your visitors have expectations of something working a certain way and it does not, they are more likely to assume there is something wrong with your site and leave.

Don't have pop-ups. There is little worse than visiting a site and being attacked by pop-up ads or newsletter sign-up boxes. Most people will immediately leave a website that has pop-ups, even if they are on big websites. Stay away from these types of annoying ads, and your customers will be happier. If your host forces pop-ups on you, it may be time to find a new one.

Don't disable the visitor's right-click functionality. Some sites do this in order to prevent people from copying and pasting text or saving images from the site. The thing is, it doesn't work and disables other useful functions. OCR can be used to capture text from such sites, and grabbing images is as simple as taking a screenshot.

Build your website using a content management system. Knowing how to build a website using just HTML and CSS is good foundation knowledge, but this can only produce a static website. Web page design has evolved into providing dynamic content. If you couple your coding skills with the use of a content management system, you can practically build any type of website that you desire.

Use a descriptive title. Many site owners forget to name their pages, or name them something generic, such as "Welcome Page." Search engines do use title descriptions in their rankings, so make sure you are as descriptive as possible, without going overboard. Make sure it is usable for your viewers and the search engines.

To help keep your site visitors happy, do not underline words. Underline words on the internet signifies that the word is a clickable link. If you have too many words on your pages that are underlined with being clickable links, then your visitors will be frustrated after continuously trying to click on them.

If you already have a particular web hosting solution that you know you are going to use, keep its limitations in mind as you design your website. For example, do not create a website that relies on specific programming languages if your web host does not support these languages. It is fairly simple to find out which technologies are supported by your web host. Make certain that your design is something that is within the limitations of your host.

If you are not feeling confident in any area at all when you're designing a website then go ahead and ask for help from someone. You can either find help from a friend or from strangers on places like forums on the web. Just be sure you don't tackle anything without knowing what you're doing first.

Ask your friends and family for advice on how your web site or sites are developing. You want to see if what you're creating is actually enticing to people when they come visit, you don't want to make a whole site that no one is going to enjoy, this can hurt your overall progress.

Just because you've launched your site doesn't mean the design process is finished. Prepare yourself to remain active, when it comes to the site. This does not mean that you have to constantly change it, though you will have to preform some regular updates. It is imperative to implement this technique if you incorporate videos and current events into your design. Unfortunately, updating a website is not as simple as updating a blog. You may need to implement a more diligent regime to be successful.

It is good idea to sketch out your designs by hand, to get a visual aspect that you can recreate. Those around you can give valuable input if they see the proposed design before you implement it online.

Make sure your website's call to action (CTA) is highlighted in your web design. If the visitor can not easily find what you really want them to do next, then you will be hard pressed to get them to move forward in your action cycle. Call out your CTA using icons, white space, a font size increase, bolding or some other format change that works with your design.

You've read the advice here and are ready to put it into action, so get ready to design your site! Start by sketching out a design and making lists of the content you'll need and you'll have your website online in no time.
