The Case
A man forces a couple to let him watch then kills them. Hotch tells the team two couples have been killed, the man found handcuffed and having taken Viagra. The unsub shoots the man and stabs the woman, but there's nothing else linking the victims. Garcia volunteers to do JJ's job and Hotch agrees on a trial basis.
The Investigation
Morgan and Prentiss check out the car and they realize the unsub adjusted the temperature and radio to make the couple comfortable. Rossi and Reid interview victims' loved ones and recognize both husbands as alpha males. Hotch stops Garcia from accidentally spilling information to a reporter. They profile the unsub as using the couple to fulfill needs he can no longer fulfill himself. Meanwhile, he has another couple, and though the husband master key lock fights back and the wife says she'll do what he wants, the unsub shoots them. Reid notices that the husband knew how to fight back, and he looks into that as a possible link. Prentiss and Morgan recreate the scene and wonder if the unsub was a swinger until he became impotent.
Swingers
Garcia is overworked and calls Kevin in for help. Morgan and Prentiss check out the swinger scene while the others deliver the profile in the station. However, to be part of the swinger scene, he would have to have a partner, and they think the unsub's wife was the trigger. The unsub, James, shows up at a swinger party and says his wife is on the way. James spots two men and a woman together and starts shooting. He only shot men, and the hostess locked the room she was in but he got in anyway. They figure out he's a locksmith and Hotch has Garcia get a list together. They look into unsolved cases. Morgan goes to help Garcia and tells her to do the job her way, not try to replace JJ.
Finding James
Garcia finds James Thomas using her own skills and gets all his information to Hotch. At his apartment, they find his wife Maryann and she's pregnant. They show her pictures of the latest crime scene, but she refuses to believe it and says James is her baby's father. However, he had surgery so it's not possible. They hope that James had killed the father in one of the unsolved cases and Reid thinks he can get her to admit it. As Reid talks to Maryann, she keeps protesting until he shows her one of the files, then she reacts. They find out that Maryann and James used to play games before they started swinging, specifically at the bar Dunlee's, where they find him. Prentiss goes in pretending to be a swinger from one of the parties. He sees through her story but she shoots him before he can get to her. Hotch tells Garcia that they need her to return to her original role, which is what she wants. He wants to split the job among the team and still use Garcia in the field occasionally.
