Ways for Teachers to Make Extra Money

Tutoring is a good way to make extra money during the summer. Tutoring is usually paid by the half hour or hour. Be aware that it might be considered a conflict of interest to tutor students for pay in the same district of employment. However, tutoring can be done is surrounding districts or online through tutoring sites. Tutors can usually make more money though when they tutor on their own rather than through someone else.

Evening courses can also be good for an extra income. Many times community colleges will hire adjunct teachers to teach specific classes. Those usually require a master's level degree. Teaching ESL or GED classes or adult continuing education classes can also pay extra money. Additionally, a special interest or skill may provide an opportunity for teaching a class at a community recreation center for extra money.

Teachers Can Earn Money From Testing Companies

Developers of psycho-educational tests pay professionals to help give sample tests during the test development phase. Teachers are qualified to give some of those tests. They pay per test given. The bad part is that the teacher has to find their own children or adults to test. The best part is that it pays decently (the person taking the test also gets a small sum) and work amount and hours are flexible.

Testing companies who develop state assessment tests often pay professionals, including certified teachers, to help develop test questions and to help score essay questions. Often, they want a commitment for a minimum number of hours per week. However, those hours are flexible and the pay can be fairly good.

Get Paid to Write

Since teachers have a wealth of knowledge and love sharing that knowledge, writing can be a good option. Some online writing sites pay upfront per article. Usually they either provide or approve the titles. There are also online magazines that will pay people to write in a specific area. The pay for these is usually not great, but the advantage is that the hours are flexible and it can create a steady supplemental income.

Writing on a revenue share basis can also be a good writing option for teachers. Some websites are set up to post well-written informational articles. The pay is based on the readers and/or the revenue those articles bring in each month. It creates passive income, or a type of royalty. The disadvantage is the volume and effort it takes to see measurable money; however, it continues to pay indefinitely after the work has been done.

Creative Ways for Teachers to Make Extra Money

Earn money during the summer by doing the things other people do not have time to do. Summer vacations can open up opportunities during the summer months. Taking care of pets or plants or lawn care while other people are out of town can bring in extra money. Anything others might not have time to do during the summer is an income opportunity.

Children being out of school during the summer can also provide an income opportunity. Many parents are faced with needing child care for the summer months. Watching a couple of children during the week, until school starts again, could provide a good steady extra income at that time of year.

Earning Extra Money Can be Easy for Teachers

Teachers can earn extra money fairly easily when they know the right avenues to access. Tapping into their knowledge and into other people's needs can create many income opportunities.
