Your goal is to plant the best organic garden possible. You have certainly come to the right place! This article is packed with tips and inspiration that will allow you to better understand the basics of organic gardening. Read on!

Start your plant in pots before you plant them in your garden. Your plants will be more likely to survive if you do this. This also enables you to close gaps between planting cycles. Once the fully matured plants are removed, the seedlings can be planted.

If powdery mildew appears on your plants, don't purchase expensive chemical solutions. Mix a bit of liquid soap and some baking soda into water. You just need to spray your plants with this solution once every five days until the mildew is no longer visible. This is a natural solution for ridding your plants of mildew safely.

When winter arrives, transfer a few plants into the house for safe storage during the cold weather. It's a good idea to save any expensive plants or those that will thrive in indoor heat. Carefully dig around the rootball and replant in an appropriate pot.

Ensure you have the proper soil for the plants you have selected. Depending on what type of plants you have, your soil may or may not be adapted. It is also possible to set aside a portion of your garden to include just one type of soil.

Seeds should be soaked in a dark area overnight. Simply place a handful of seeds in a container, cover the seeds up with water, and stash it away. The seeds will get the hydration they need to start growing. This way, the seeds will have a much better shot at survival once they are planted.

Plant a little catnip or wheatgrass in the area surrounding the plants that your cat is devouring. Try putting mothballs or citrus on your soil to wards pets away.

Be consistent with garden fertilization. Choose commercial compost instead of homegrown manure to keep toxins out of your plants. You can choose from many different fertilizers. Do not worry about the kind of fertilizer you end up using but definitely put down something.

An easy, inexpensive way to give them nutrients is to pour the leftover water from your steamed vegetables into the soil. Try adding used coffee grounds to the soil around plants that grow in acidic soil. Chamomile tea can be effective if you have problems with fungus in your garden. Simply sprinkle it on the affected plant.

To deter meddlesome dogs from destroying your garden, you should use heavily scented substances around the perimeter. You can even use perfume! Your dog will find more interesting scents to explore elsewhere and leave your garden alone.

If you want to spend more quality time outdoors with your children, why not allowing them to help you with your horticulture? Children love to snap up these sweet juicy fruits for themselves and will be much more willing to eat other foods you've planted as well.

Water containing some aspirin helps your plants fight illness. An aspirin and a half, combined with a couple of gallons of water, will do amazing things for your plants. You can just spray this on them to fight disease. Apply at three week intervals.

Protecting your knees while you are horticulture is very important. Bending over from a standing position is something many people cannot do. You can kneel instead to help keep your back relaxed while tending to your plants. Place a cushioning kneeling pad on the ground or wear knee pads to make kneeling more comfortable.

Organic indoor plants may need additional light sources to make up for the light they miss out on by being indoors. This needs to be considered. The amount of light available can determine which type of organic plants you should grow. For example, if your living area does not provide much natural sunlight, you could grow those plants that only need low to medium amounts of natural light to thrive. If you simply must have a plant that has higher requirements for sunlight, you can use indoor UV lamps.

At this point, you should feel more confident about your horticulture skills. If you thought you were prepared previously, then you should be at a pro's level now! These tips should have helped you get started growing a lovely organic garden.
