Blending in (Unfinished)
Chapter 1: Introduction

It's been two years since 'It' first began. I was a nerdy seventeen year-old over-achiever back then. It had been three months after my seventeenth birthday when they had created 'it' ; The curse. For years scientists had been trying to create a way for humans to use camouflage just as animals did. Well, they did and that's what got us all in this mess.

First, there were no symptoms to the serum. After about four months, people started to black out ; Especially those who used their new mutation frequently. It wasn't long before weirder things started happening. People started turning into these giant reptile-like creatures!

They're called Reptilians. They vary in color but in most cases it's usually a dark color. They have two sets of teeth that are all as sharp as a shark's. Their bodies are covered in slimy scales. They all have strong builds. They'll eat anything in sight ; That's why we have to use the "curse" more often.

It took me a while to actually agree to take the serum. I knew something would go wrong! It was just like the movies and all the books. A scientist comes up with some cool formula to give people powers and then they all turn evil and destroy the world or some nonsense! Did they listen when I tried to tell them? Nope, not at all.

Anyways, I took it. Just as everyone else on Earth did. Now look where it got us. I was right! I surely hope they have some kind of cure. If not, I fear the world will possibly end. I can't let that happen, especially not 'cause of this. This is a stupid way to end the human race.

My name is Ares, and I plan on saving this Earth. There's no way I'm letting some mutant lizards ruin my home. I think I've read enough Sci-fi books to help me survive. I just need to find the scientists who created the serum. I'll take my books with me too, just for reference.

Chapter 2: The beginning

My heart skipped a beat as the horrid creature passed by. It was larger than most but not nearly as large as the very first of it's kind. We're all forced to use our "curse" to hide from those things. The only problem, the more we use the "curse", the closer we get to becoming one.

I silently thanked Doctor James for creating the serum. There were so many reptilians. If at anytime my "curse" faultered, I was as good as dead!

They were all around a large fire, each of them with a large sheet of metal. The largest of them all stepped out of the shadows. He looked each and everyone of them dead in the eyes.

My heart stopped completely as he walked over and came to a hault infront of me. Wait, can he see me? Oh god, I think he can. I swear he just looked me in the eyes. My skin crawled as he shook with taunting laughter. No, he can't see me he would have given me away by now. Wouldn't he have?

I jumped as his fist collided with the giant brick wall I blended in with. Beads of sweat formed on my forehead. Trembling, I glanced over at the fresh dent beside my left ear. Fear took over my body as I stared back at his stone cold eyes.

It wasn't until he walked away that I realized I'd been holding my breath. His ears perked up as I finally exhaled. My body froze again. I shut my eyes praying that I wasn't caught.

I didn't open my eyes until I heard his laughter again. It was farther away than before. A high whimper followed the laughter. Was he whimpering? No, He couldn't have been it was too high to be his. There, being dragged towards the fire, was a small child.

She looked to be about four, maybe five years old. Her hair was a mess of obsidian curls. She was small and skinny with skin the color of caramel. She wore a purple sweatshirt with jeans and pink sneakers.

The child's dark brown eyes darted around pleadingly. Her legs kicked at the air frequently. Something glistened on her face. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she begged them to let her go.

The largest of the monsters spat at her with a low growl. He nodded at another pair of the foul beasts. They turned behind them and picked something up. It took me a minute to realize it was a boy. He looked a lot like the little girl.

He had the same obsidian curls and caramel covered skin. The only difference was that his hair was shorter. I couldn't see his eyes, the poor child was unconscious. His outfit consisted of a green t-shirt and shorts. His shoes seemed to be missing.

The boy's sister kicked at the air even more as her eyes rested on her brother. She wailed at the top of her lungs. The child squirmed until she was dropped. As soon as she was released she dashed towards her brother.

The path to the boy was blocked from her. A toothy smirk flashed her obstacle's face. The giant lizard bellowed as he scooped her up. Once again she squirmed. This time instead of dropping her, the reptile only tightened his grip.
