I would like to address this issue that has been frustrating me for quite some time.
I notice a lot of people complain about how much of a mess the music forum is. Yes, it's pretty bad. But instead of complaining about it, I really wish the regulars, who I know to be intelligent human beings for the most part, would do something about it and help.
If there is a spam/repeat thread that doesn't belong, DO NOT POST IN IT!! That will just bump it up to the top of the forum.
As a Forum Assistant, I can not do anything about Terms Of Service violations. This includes flaming and trolling, among other things. If I find flaming and trolling, that just means the thread is going to stay there longer. And it doesn't help if nobody reports it, so REPORT IT!! That includes flaming and trolling, as well as the original misplaced thread.
Also, as a Forum Assistant, I do not handle reports. But Forum Assistants are a rarity because of the new moderation system. I am one of the few permanent Forum Assistants. You should still report threads and posts because if a moderator gets to them before I do, it will likely be through a report, whereas I will move them when I come across them in the forum itself.
If it's urgent, please PM AN ONLINE MODERATOR. If it's not urgent, then just be patient. Again, DO NOT POST IN IT. Do not feel like it's your place to correct the person. I know that a large chunk of posts in spam threads is people explaining to the OP what they're doing wrong. If you feel you must correct them, PM THEM...DO NOT POST IN THE THREAD!!
Are you getting my drift? DO NOT POST IN MISPLACED THREADS IF YOU WANT THEM TO BE TAKEN CARE OF!
As a Forum Assistant, because I can't do anything about TOS violations, I need to make sure there aren't any in a thread before I can move it. That means I have to go through the whole thread. The longer a thread is, the more likely it is to have a TOS violation such as flaming. If the forum is overwhelmingly spammy, I will almost always take care of the longest threads last. Especially if I only have a little time. That way I can get to more threads in less time. And the forum is often very spam-filled, and a lot of the time I do have a limited amount of time to move threads. So this means a misplaced thread may not get moved if it is longer than a few pages. I try to get to all of them, but if I don't have time, those will be the ones that I'll leave. Which inevitably means they're probably going to get even longer before myself or somebody else can get around to taking care of them.
Another complaint I often see is "why did this thread get moved, but not this one?" This is often because of the aforementioned issue that I may leave a "worse" thread because it's not as easy of a move and I'm often on a limited time schedule. This is a volunteer job, and I can't devote every second of my time to it, although I try to get on often. Also, spam flows in almost as fast as I can move it, so again, I may be taking care of newer issues when there are older ones still floating about. If there is one particular thread that is really bugging you please PM AN ONLINE MODERATOR!
Also, if you don't post in the spam threads, eventually they will fall off the front page and out of your way anyway. Unless the OP continues posting in them, but in many spam threads, the OP doesn't return after posting the thread.
So one last time, I must stress DO NOT POST IN MISPLACED THREADS!!!!! It would not only make my job a whole lot easier, but it would benefit the whole forum and all of its users...especially the regulars.
Please.
