Losing Friends
I think the saddest thing of all, is losing friends.

Some people claim they don't need 'em, or that they're untrustworthy and you know, yeah, that can be true sometimes, but who are you if don't at least have a few comrades beside you? You're alone. You're desolate with no one to spew to except yourself and your four walls.

Sometimes you come across a series of people, people that change you and vice versa; People that make you feel good, people you can relate to and maybe that's all you need to stay sane. It feels nice, coming outside with a head full of bad men and having someone sit next to you and light a cigarette, someone you don't know, even- and you talk about you and you talk about them and you talk about jack s**t and you go to bed that night with a smile on your face because, hey, you are not alone.

Then when you get attached, when you start to care, that's when it begins to hit close. You start bonding and seeing other people as if they are your own blood; you slap 'em on the shoulder and grin and go, "I feel you." Because you do, you understand, just as they understand you.

Then time passes. Time is always the instigator, isn't it? You lose sight of them. You don't see them for a few days and a few days turns into a few weeks and a few weeks turns into a few years and before you know it, you're sitting back and reminiscing about the good old times and you feel like crying because those days are gone and that bond has since broken and disappeared.

Of course, you'll make new friends. You always will, it seems inevitable, even to someone like you in all your antisocial glory. But it never is the same, is it? It never compares to the past moments you shared on those street curbs or corners, in those hotel rooms, in the passenger seats of those cars, on those bus rides to work.

Sometimes you think about what it would be like to call up those people. What you'd say; and you realize you wouldn't have a damn thing to say because too much time has passed and it wouldn't be the same and they wouldn't give two shits about you anyhow. They'd make up conversation but it wouldn't be like it used to be - easy and funny - it'd be forced and awkward and you'd hang up the phone, wishing you hadn't called at all.

That is the saddest thing - losing friends. But my friend, it happens and sometimes it happens for a reason.
