A Night to Shake the Ages

The moon was hidden behind the stormy clouds as the rain poured down from the heavens it almost drowned out the cries of two newly born babies. Their screams were soon hushed as the mid-wife handed them to their mother.
“Congratulations” The wid-wife said with a smile “two healthy babies.”
The mother held them tears of joy fell from her eyes as she held the precious babies, kissing their heads softly. One of the babies fell asleep at his mothers’ breast the other still suckling.
“We must give them their gems soon.” The mid-wife held out two small gems.
The mother nodded as the mid-wife took the one who was still feeding. Crying in distress the baby wanted her mothers warmth back. Waking the other up and he started to sob as well.
“Shh, your alright.” The mid-wife cooed placing the gem on the babies’ head then took the boy and placed the gem on his head. Handing back to the mother was, they both instantly calmed down, they waited for the gems to fill and change.
“Do you wish to name them now?” the mid-wife asked.
The mother nodded “Nyx and Eros.”
The mid-wife’s apprentice looked over the two babies shocked to see that they had fine silver hair instead of blue. “Do you think…?”
She shook her head “It is not the first time I have seen babies born from the water tribe have silver hair, when it falls out blue will grow back in its place.”
“Oh…okay…” She just continued to watch over the two infants as the gem started to change colors.
Rain pounded on the windows and lighting as the mid-wife gasped in surprise illuminated the room. Never had she seen this happen before. The gems did not turn blue like they should have they had turned silver.
“You and your children are in grave danger.” She said in a grim tone. “If the wrong person were to see this, you all would surely be killed.”
The poor mother was exhausted; there was nothing she could do.
“You must stay here until you are ready to leave, I know of a place you can go… they will take care of you. It is a safe house for all of us magical creatures; they will let you stay until you are able to leave. You will be safe in the human realm.”
“Thank you…”
“Rest now.” She said, and motioned her appearance to leave. “I will see you when you awake.” With that she left as well.

Legends

There are three types of dragons water, fire, and earth. Some say that there is, or was a forth, the element of purity. Though most believe now that the dragon type purity is only just a myth. Only one or two are born every 1000 years. The legends say when the balance is endangered one will be born.
The last one that was born was over 750 years ago when the water dragons almost faced extinction. A mysterious force contaminated their waterways, poising them, killing them slowly, had. Then he came…the mysterious dragon. He purified all of the waterways and cured the ones who were ill. Then, as mysteriously as he came he vanished.
Every dragon shares features with others of its element. Fire dragons have blazing red hair and flaming orange eyes. Water dragons have wavy blue hair and sea foam green eyes. Earth dragons have dark brown hair and grassy green eyes. Legends say that the purity dragons are born with silver hair, and their eyes have no iris so all that shows are their pupils.
At birth a gem is placed on the infant’s forehead. The gem attaches itself to the babies’ forehead and fills with its blood. The element the baby is determines the color the gem turns. With fire the gem turns red, water it becomes a sea foam green, and earth it turns a dark brown. But if the child is born a purity dragon the gem will turn silver.

Sometimes when a child is born from the water tribe it has fine silver hair. They believe it is because when the purity dragon purified their waterways he left a piece of himself behind, and while the child is still in the womb because it has not been intoxicated by the impurities of the world that they take a piece of what the dragon had left behind. Though shortly after birth the purities they had taken soon leave them, and they become a normal water dragon.
Sadly over time less and less children were born with this, and soon the stories and legends of the purity dragons became myths, and like the brave one who saved them vanished, so did the stories of the purity dragons. All they were now was just a story you told to your children at night. No one really believed they ever had or ever will exist.
