A well-kept fence is essential for homeowners who value privacy and protection, as well as for keeping up your home's appearance. Any wood fence requires regular maintenance to keep it looking good and functioning properly, and sometimes repairs are even necessary.
Aahh!... another set of stairs... Amid all the different types of woodwork I do, what I enjoy about building stairs is the brain challenge they provide - particularly in the planning and setting out phase. One of my latest jobs has been to build a set of external stairs for a client. The task was to plan and build a set of stairs which would fit into a particular space on an existing building which was undergoing significant renovations. The stairs would comply with the Building Code of Australia, and made primarily from recycled jarrah.
Why do I love wooden ceilings? Because our Wisconsin home has redwood with large rustic beams (shown below in the next photo). The combination with the fireplace (crafted of Wisconsin flagstone but of course!) lends a feeling some might attribute to the Frank Lloyd Wright style called Praire Style. For me, it simply means the room is a gathering place for our family. The wood makes the room feel more attuned to nature.
The Glass fencing required was relatively easy to install between the pine posts but I needed to get some expert help to install the glass panels between the house and the brick pillar and to also include a self closing gate. After a few calls and emails to various Glass fencing companies, I decided to go through Dean from Krystal Glass Fencing who was able to supply a glass gate and the relevant fittings. He also put me in touch with one of his engineers, Neil, who came out to install the 50x50 SS posts and glass gate.
When a group of unhappy customers confronted Trex on their Facebook page, Trex took the 20th century approach and blocked all users posting negative comments from their page. Essentially burying their heads in the sand; thinking that maybe if they close their eyes the problem would just fix itself or go away. Bad idea. Instead what this did was it moved the anger against Trex outside a forum which was under their control. Customers created their own Facebook pages and website They have gone into material supply stores and if they see someone even looking at Trex they will share their story. Yes indeed, happy customers tell three friends, angry customers tell 3000 strangers.
LP Weatherbest Decking sold by Boston Cedar uses reversible deck boards which offer a choice of woodgrain or rough sawn faces. They are low maintenance and come with an excellent warranty. Composite Decking becomes much more affordable for today's deck projects when you consider the extra long life and the low maintenance features. Large wood decks require extensive refinishing over the years which will add to the overall cost.
