Your mom being a single mom wasn't just part of your family dynamic, you worked it into part of your identity. She was, without a doubt, an inspiration to you, fighting and scrounging and completely doing what s**t needed to get done to keep herself and you, her only daughter, above water. And while you always were a troublesome kid, running around and ******** off, marching for nipples or sluts or whatever, nobody got to hurt your ma.


So when I came into her life, your jaw hit the floor. The ********, I was closer to your age than to hers and...and...I was white (who even liked white men?). Granted, I had my own money and I helped out, but the way your mom got around me, doting and caring and waiting hand-over-foot, you just didn't get why she was adhering to gender norms so strongly. Until I stayed over the first time, and you could ******** hear it so loudly you could practically see it.



It's been a couple months now and, more than a few times a week, you can't sleep, and she seems to forget about you when I'm here. So now, at 10am when you're cutting class/work and I'm still laying about in her bed having today off (the ******** did I even do to have so much free time?), things are going to change. And you're going to let me have it for being such an imperialist, sexist a*****e.
