Microsoft 'Scroogled' Campaign Attacks Google Gmail Ad Policies
"We will not go by means of your emails to promote advertisements," a narrator says in Microsoft's most recent "Scroogled" advertisement. Which is the thrust of Microsoft's second key marketing offensive against Google.

A year ago Microsoft launched a Scroogled campaign attacking Google's increasing Google Docs word-processing services. With a corny song and character named Googen Apperson, Microsoft said that in comparison to its own Microsoft Office plans, Google Docs have been unreliable and dependent on an Net connection.

Now Microsoft is striving to attract consumers to its Outlook.com email services, which it says beats Google's common Gmail.

"Google goes by way of every single Gmail that is sent or obtained, looking for keywords and phrases so they can target Gmail with paid ads. And there is no way to opt out of this invasion of your privacy," Microsoft's Scroogled.com site says. "Outlook.com is distinct -- we do not go through your e mail to promote ads," Microsoft goes on to state on that internet site.

Microsoft has also started a petition on thepetitionsite.com, urging people to inquire Google to "cease going through your emails to sell advertisements." The petition, which was put up nowadays, has garnered above one,000 signatures. It has a aim of 25,000. Microsoft claims that 88 % of Americans disapprove of e mail solutions that scan your messages to target ads.

Google has fed advertisements to users, based on what it sees in their inboxes, since 2004. "If you've just lately obtained a lot of messages about photography or cameras, a deal from a nearby camera shop may be interesting," Google says on its "Advertisements in Gmail" web page. The ad targeting is automated (a Google worker is not sitting there reading through your emails).

Google, reached by ABC News, mentioned its advertising makes it possible for a lot of of its companies to be free of charge. "Marketing keeps Google and several of the websites and companies Google offers free of charge," Samantha Smith, a Google spokesperson, informed ABC News. "We function tough to make sure that ads are secure, unobtrusive and related."

Microsoft factors out that you can not opt out of the promoting in Gmail. Even so, you can use the HTML view or use another email consumer with your account so you never have to see the adverts -- or you can pay for an ad-totally free Google Apps account for $50 a 12 months.

Of course, the big level right here is that Microsoft says it does not do this. http://emailset.operationquickmoney.training/52d968623ef37
