When it's time to pursue leadership skills, then you have most likely realized it's your time to rise to the occasion. People need someone who can explain things, and if you can do that in a way that doesn't make them feel inferior, they will love you.

When you're a business leader, you should try to treat your team or staff in the way that you'd like to be treated. Looking down on people isn't right and doesn't promote a good work atmosphere. If you treat you show your staff respect, they will return the favor which can make your life much easier.

If you must give criticism, do so constructively and in private. Every member of the staff doesn't need to know about every mistake that is made. Being singled out in a crowd in this way is embarrassing. On the other hand, give compliments publicly. This not only build individual confidence, it lets others see that hard work is appreciated and rewarded.

Recognize the employees who consistently do a good job. Don't focus on problems or spend too much time trying to strengthen weak employees. Be sincere and full of confidence when working with others. Remember that confidence is not about being arrogant. There is no trust generated through arrogance. Being a sincere individual enables others to trust you and want to work for you. Not being sincere is going to be noticeable and will harm your relationship with your employees.

Just because you think you are leader does not mean that people will follow you. In order to be a good leader and have good leadership skills, you must be able to make people understand what you want them to do.
