Living in a small community can fit some peoples personalities, and be completely wrong for others. The suburban houses with Richardson fence look quaint and adorable to some and disgusting and robotic to others. Growing up in such a community, with a big house and a fence in Plano Texas has its pros and cons. They are great communities to raise kids. Good schooling, safe areas and lots of playmates are available. The people often do lots of things together as a community, building lasting friendships. On the other hand, areas like this tend to be sheltered from the real world. Some people can't handle this factor. It can also send those who have lived there for their entire lives into a culture shock when they leave.

Quality Suites Banksia Gardens offers accommodation close to the Albany city centre. Visit the National ANZAC Centre. Drive to one of several national parks (West Cape Howe National Park, Porongurup National Park, Torndirrup National Park, Walpole-Nornalup National Park). Visit the Discovery Bay Centre and experience the historic whaling station. Visit the Great Southern region food and wine producers of Mount Barker, Denmark and the Porongurup. Go fishing or whale watching. Or you can simply choose to just relax, unwind and enjoy ‘Albany Time'.

But I digress. While it's more relaxed month than many gardening-wise, there's still much to be done, both chore and fun, in our gardens this July, and, with any luck, the weather might let off for long enough to let us enjoy the results of our hard work. Failing that, there's something decidedly British about sipping Pimm's under a trusted gazebo.

Maria Luisa Park was designed by Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier. The entire southern end of the city was redeveloped into an expanse of gardens and grand boulevards. The centre of it is Parque de María Luisa, a 'Moorish paradisical style' with a half mile of tiled fountains, pavilions, walls, ponds, benches, and exhedras; lush plantings of palms, orange trees, Mediterranean pines, and stylized flower beds and with vine hidden bowers.

This year we harvested our organically grown garlic crop a little earlier than usual because we needed the space to plant out our summer veggie plants. Here is our harvest hanging out under our verandah to cure before we store them in the pantry. Every year we save the biggest and plumpest cloves for replanting the following year so we know exactly what we will end up with and it also saves money.
