A lawsuit was filed by Bacon against Dr. Chalfant in Philadelphia for not paying the patent fee for implementing the Goodyear Vulcanized rubber for dentures. Bacon won the lawsuit. Chalfant then moved and begun to practice in Wilmington, Delaware. Again a case was filed by Bacon against Chalfant for the Goodyear Vulcanite Rubber Company in Delaware. After losing another lawsuit Chalfant left for St. Louis, Missouri. Once again Bacon tracked down Chalfant and took him to court for utilizing the Goodyear rubber to generate dentures without paying the fee to the company. In 1876, Chalfant left Missouri and moved to San Francisco.
