It can seem impossible to reach your weight loss goals. We start with all the enthusiasm and motivation in the world, and then get discouraged when we feel the soreness from our first workout. How do you determine the key to successful weight loss?

Your first major step towards weight loss is to know what success looks like. Specifically, what are your goals, and how will you know you have reached them? In your dreams, what do you envision as the results of your weight loss? Do you want to drop a size or two? Do you have a goal in mind, with regard to your weight loss? Or, like most people, do you simply want to make your body fitter and healthier?

Consider keeping a weight loss journal. Record what you eat and how you feel every day. It's usually better to not actually weigh yourself every day; at the end of each week, check your weight and write that down too. When you write everything down, it will be easy for you to identify patterns and problem areas. Then you can make effective changes to your eating habits.

When you are hungry, it will be easy to make food choices that are not in your best interest. You aren't making good decisions about what to eat - you simply want to eat anything you can get your hands on, as fast as possible! Avoid this by having snacks on hand and make time for your meals. Avoid getting take-out by packing a meal ahead of time. Using this method you will save money on food and cut down on the calories you consume.

You need exercise and healthy eating habits in order to lose weight. Find a workout you find enjoyable, and perform your workout at 3-4 days each week. If it is difficult for you to get regular exercise, try incorporating exercise into things you normally enjoy doing. Invite your friends out for a walk in the park as opposed to eating out with them. If you have an interest in dancing, take a dance class. If you like hiking, you can go explore several trails near you.

You want to get rid of jink food from any areas you spend a lot of time in, such as your home, your office, and your car. If the food isn't there you will not be able to eat it. Make healthy choices wherever you are eating, be it your home, office, or elsewhere. Be prepared for sudden snack attacks by having plenty of ready-to-eat foods on hand, such as carrot and celery sticks, fruit, seeds and other nutritious treats.

Your weight loss is up to you. You will feel more at ease if you have the support of your friends and your family. It is inevitable that you will have low points where you feel frustrated or discouraged and it is at these times that temptations can lead you astray. When you want to quit and feel unmotivated you can always talk with a person who is always there for you to keep you going.
