Dhoklas are a typical 'farsaan', appetizer, served with a Gujarati meal (Jamvaanu)
These are healthy and low calorie snack since they are steamed. Usually the batter is fermented and takes some planning as they require an overnight period of fermentation. This recipe is for instant dhoklas, which I learned from family in South Africa. There is corn or mealies as the S Africans call them as they get plenty of corn there. The cream style sweet corn adds softness and moistness to the dhoklas. They are delicious with a green chutney or Indian style pesto that is tangy, spicy, and sweet.
