While the mild temperatures before this week have been nice, muddy paws have also been quite the headache. So were enjoying this brief reprieve from the pile of dirty towels in the back room.

Sometimes I get feedback from readers who have similar experiences with their dogs. And I know just by Bark in the Parks popularity that Clarence is a canine friendly town. But pet anecdotes aside, the town is hoping to get a better handle on just how many dogs there really are.

Animal Control Officer Jerry Schuler and his staff are conducting a townwide dog census. All dogs 4 months and older are required to be licensed.

The license can be obtained in the Town Clerks Office with proof of rabies vaccination and if the dog is spayed or neutered. The fee is $10 if the dog is spayed or neutered and $18 if they are not.

If you have any questions or you receive a notice in error, call the office at 741-8938. And if the cold snap this week lasts longer than expected, enjoy the mud-free paws like Ill be doing.

NEW YEAR, NEW YOU The beginning of January is often a time of self-reflection where we make decisions to better ourselves. Some people choose to get in shape, discontinue a bad habit or maybe try to read more books and watch less television.

If youre a few days behind on making any resolutions, Dragonfly Studio & Salon will host its New Year, New You Expo from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at 8290 Main St. The expo is an opportunity to meet new practitioners, as well as sample products and services including hair, skin, makeup, nails, reiki, reflexology, spiritual readings, chakra balancing, yoga, meditation and homeopathy. It might be a great opportunity to discover something new to improve your overall wellness in 2016.

Tickets are $22 and include mini treatments, food and drinks. The salon also houses a fine art photography studio as well as a boutique featuring jewelry, hair accessories, paintings and other works by local artists. Refreshments, door prizes and special discounts on salon services and products will be offered. Contact Sarah Carr-Mansouri at 634-5950 for more information.
