Let's say you have the free time and ambidextrous control to create nail art all by yourself, there's still the possibility that you'll be sick of your intricate design after a day or two anyway.(That rhinestone appliqu doesn't have the shelf life you thought it would.) But we discovered a technique, based on the feathery look manicurist Deborah Lippmann painted for Public School, that's beginner-level easy, beautiful, and so subtle you wont get nail-art fatigue. Plus, it requires zero craft-store supplies to re-create.
Start with two coats of polish (a dark shade is more dramatic, a lighter color more forgivingwe like Smith & Cult in Porn-a-thon as a peachy base) and then create the wispy stripe using the dry-brush method. For this you need a white polish (we used Nails Inc. in Floral Street). Wipe most of it off the brush, and then lightly drag it diagonally across each nail. The key is to not overthink it and just swipe it in short little strokesit may take two or three to cross the nail. Its supermodern, and you cant make a mistake, because every nail should look slightly different, says Lippmann, who also suggests skipping a base color for a take on a negative-space manicure. And to make the whole thing even easier, skip a topcoat. You get a little texture and feel the polish, she says.
