Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Real Madrid from Manchester United is by far the most expensive of all time. In fact the Portugease players transfer fee is a full 23.5 million higher than the next closes, which was enough for Man City to buy Davil Silva in 2010 and for Manchester United to buy Wayne Rooney in 2004.
Of the top 10 most expensive transfers of all time, nine of the players are strikers or attacking midfielders. In fact there is only one defensive positioned player on the list. Buffon's transfer from Parma to Juventus was and still the most expensive transfer fee ever for a goal keeper or a defensive positioned footballer.
2010 Football Transfers
Cristiano Ronaldo's 80 million transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid in 2009 remains the largest of all time, but with Manchester City having already spent 100 million in 2010 transfer period this record may not last long. The Premier League club have already been said to have once offered AC Milan 90 million for Kaka and so this massive transfer fee record may well be broken in the next transfer period.
