Large marijuana bundle falls from sky through Nogales carport, wrecks doghouse
A woman in Nogales, Arizona, awoke one morning in September to find pieces of wood and debris surrounding her garage. She had heard a loud boom while in bed that night but chalked the noise up to a loud thunder clap from a passing monsoon and didnt give the matter any additional thought until she saw the damage to her home the next morning. According to a September 27 report from the Associated Press carried by Yahoo! News, the loud boom that woke Maya Donnelly up from her sound sleep on September 8 was a 26 pound bale of marijuana that fell from the sky, crashed through the roof of her carport and smashed her doghouse.

Upon further inspection, Donnelly could see amid the debris a large bulky package wrapped in black plastic. Donnellys Nogales home is very close to the U.S. Mexico border. Assuming that the large package had something to do with the drug trade, Donnelly contacted her husband, Bill, who told her to dial 911.

Police in Nogales said that the marijuana bale was worth about $10,000 and likely fell from a drug smugglers airplane or perhaps a pilotless drone. Donnelly told reporters with Nogales International that "It's all right on top of our dog's house. It just made a perfectly round hole through our carport."

Police theorized that the bundle of weed that fell from the sky probably came from an ultralight aircraft that dropped part of its load too soon and most likely meant to deposit the marijuana further north. The Yakima Herald quoted Nogales Police Chief Derek Arnson as saying that this is the first time hes ever heard of drugs falling out of the sky and damaging a building, adding that "Someone definitely made a mistake, and who knows what the outcome of that mistake might be for them."

Arnson said that hell be beefing up police patrols in the area around Donnellys home in the unlikely event that anyone comes looking for their lost cargo. Donnelly will have to pay an estimated $500 in repairs to fix the roof of her carport plus buy a new doghouse for her German Shepherd, named Hulk. Fortunately for Hulk, he wasnt inside his doghouse at the time of impact.

Donnelly joked that some of her neighbors told her she would have made out better financially by keeping the bundle of marijuana instead of calling the police. The Herald quoted the homeowner as saying "That's what everybody says: Why did you call 911? But how can you have a clear conscience, right? We could have made lots of home repairs with that."
